Operational Definition of Term

Transistor Invented by three scientists at the Bell Laboratories in 1947, rapidly replaced the vacuum tube as an electronic signal regulator. A transistor regulates current or voltage flow and acts as a switch or gate for electronic signals.

Integrated Circuit (IC) sometimes called a chip or microchip, is a semiconductor wafer on which thousands or millions of tiny resistors, capacitors, and transistors are fabricated. An IC can function as an amplifier, oscillator, timer, counter, computer memory, or microprocessor.

Diode - is a specialized electronic component with two electrodes called the anode and the cathode. Most diodes are made with semiconductor materials such as silicon, germanium, or selenium.

"Printed Circuit Board." A PCB is a thin board made of fiberglass or a similar material. Electrical wires are "printed" onto the board, connecting the microprocessor to other components on the board.

Capacitor is a passive electronic component that stores energy in the form of an electrostatic field. In its simplest form, a capacitor consists of two conducting plates separated by an insulating material called the dielectric. The capacitance is directly proportional to the surface areas of the plates, and is inversely proportional to the separation between the plates.

Resistor is an electrical component that limits or regulates the flow of electrical current in an electronic circuit. Resistors can also be used to provide a specific voltage for an active device such as a transistor.

Iron (III) chloride, also called ferric chloride is an industrial scale commodity chemical compound, with the formula FeCI3.

Stranded Wire A conductor composed of a group of wires or a combination of groups of wires usually twisted together. Also known as stranded conductor.

Speaker Buzzer is designed for a large range of frequencies, deep voice coils, flexible suspension, big cones, a buzzer is usually about 1" or smaller in diameter, only plays 1 frequency, idk if they even have voice coils, but are probably more based off a mechanical movement than electrical, and have metal diaphragm.

Chapter IIREVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND THE STUDIESA Short History of Burglar AlarmsThe Personal Computer Watcher Turn on Alarm is help to minimize unauthorized person to use personal computer. This study is a part of security system or called security guard of personal computer that can protect and secure your important program and confidential file into the unwanted person to plan to use and delete importance files because the device have an ability to provide a signal to alarm and gave sound and scared to the thief or unwanted person and hears into the owner or security personnel.Burglar (or intrusion), alarms are systems designed to detect unauthorized entry into a building or area. They consist of an array of sensors, a control panel and alerting system, and interconnections. Sensors detect intruders by many methods such as monitoring door and window contacts, by passive infrared motion detectors, ultrasound, vibration, electric or magnetic fields, or microwaves. Sensors may be directly wired to a control panel that provides sensor power, or may communicate wirelessly.

According to J. Gregory(2011).When someone mentions burglar alarms it's not unreasonable to think of high tech devices developed in the silicon age. The truth is the concept of an alarm system is one that was invented long before that. For thousands of years man has used animals, more notably the dog, to guard and alert him of any one trying to tamper or steel his valuables. In the Middle Ages large gongs were used to warn a population of impending doom or large bonfires lit to warn of imminent invasion. As important as these developments were, it was not until 1852 that the first electro-mechanical alarm system was invented. Edwin Holmes was an American Inventor from Boston Massachusetts; the alarm he devised was simplistic but effective. A solenoid struck a gong when a trip wire was disturbed. Although his alarm system is nothing compared to today's offerings it was positively received in its day. These early alarm systems continued to make use of simple electrical circuits and relays. A typical installation would see wire wound along windowsills and around doorframes coupled with conductive lead foil and mechanical or magnetic switches laced with thin wire. The security conscious had to wait until the next century for further alarm system advances, which heralded the advent of the transistor and the integrated circuit. This technology allowed smaller units integrated with microwave and ultrasonic motion sensors along with features such as entrance and exit delays to be introduced.

With the level of technical sophistication increasing, so did the applications. Now it was possible to use alarms to monitor industrial processes such as steel production or to monitor natural events such as volcanoes and earthquakes.

Security AlarmAccording to S. Filippini, 1998.This simple system used the relay to monitor the door contacts. If the thief were open thedoors with the key switch on, and then the bell would ring even the thief to close the door would not stop the bell because only to turn the key could you silent it. The local bell uses a wiring scheme that latches the relay contacts into an alarm condition. At present somebody came up with the idea that a pair of wires from the premise could be tied into the local police station through the telephone lines. These lines were dedicated to the alarm panel only. In the police station, there was a rack of modules that had dials and meters on them. The security panel back at the premise used a series of large resistors, and the police station had a room with a whole slew of car batteries that pumped voltage on the phone line to create a current source. The resistors would be tuned to send back a specific current level. This level was reflected on the dials at the police department. If the line were to be compromised (cut/bypassed), the dial would drop its reading, and the police would be dispatched. Direct line police was found to be affected. These systems were popular with managers of jewelry stores and high-security-minded business owners. Problem was, a lot of phone lines were being used up, and the police department was chasing tons of falseInstead of a dedicated pair of phone wires from the premise to the police department, the phone company ran a pair of wires out to a location and allowed multiple premise units to be wired in series with the main feed. The main feed was routed to a secure location, which will be referred to as the monitoring center from here on (call it what you want, it still had a room full of car batteries) and tied into a machine with spools of paper and little probes with ink at the end. The premise units were replaced with a device that used a wheel with spokes protruding from it. As the wheel turned, it opened and closed a set of contacts that sent a series of Morse Code-like pulses to the monitoring center. At the monitoring center, each pulse would cause the probes to release ink onto a thin spool of paper. For example, if the premise unit's code wheel had two spokes followed by three spokes followed by one spoke on it, the monitoring center would see lines of ink that when counted, identified premise unit number 2-3-1.These devices used the same principle as a phone call to the police, but better. The digital communicators would be programmed to call a digital receiver at the monitoring center. The premise units were assigned a premise number that was programmed into these dialers. When the alarm tripped, the digital dialer would call the digital receiver and report the location and area of protection violated. This information would be first displayed on a small LED screen, and then later printed out to a spool of paper for later reference. As the technology grew, so did the ingenuity of the burglar. All they had to do was cut the phone line. If the line is unprotected, it is just a matter of cutting the right pair that the alarm uses. Actually, they take out full banks of phone wires, hoping the right pair is included in there somewhere. Read the papers; you hear about these incidents every now and then.

The Evolution of Security Alarm SystemsSecurity alarm systems are changing for the better. Older models simply go off when a point of entry in your house is opened, say a window, or a door. Well over the past few decades home security systems have altered for our benefit. The technology in this industry just keeps expanding with new innovative ideas.According to S. Hill,(2011).Most of our newly manufactured homes today are pre-instilled with wiring to support security alarm systems that will connect to your personal computer, video-audio, and much more. There is also the wireless option for those who so choose it. Wireless alarm systems are fairly simple for that do it yourself person around the house. There is a step by step process and the best part is you dont have to do it all at once. You can do the doors first, then the windows and then work your way around the house. The best part is wireless is a lot cheaper than having to install wiring. Especially if you will have to tear into walls and pull wire. This can turn into a very expensive process.

The latest models of security systems offer thermal imaging and motion detection and you can get it all on the same unit. Video cameras tend to lose their efficiency after dark, but a thermal imaging device picks up body heat, and the motion detector will pick up any movement. It is hard for an intruder to slide by these. This can be very helpful if you have to prosecute an intruder in court. With computer controlled timers and vibration sensors, it is getting harder and harder for a burglar to make a living. State of the art alert systems have paved the way to safer homes and neighborhoods. When considering a home security system, the price might just get a little expensive. The peace of mind that you get when you know that you have taken every measure within your reach to protect your family and home cannot be underestimated or appreciated. Decide what features will work for you and which will not. Sophistication is not the answer for every security situation. Look at your home; put yourself in the shoes of a burglar, what would keep him away from your house, your family and you. Put it all together, and set up your alert system that will make you comfortable.

Importance of Alarm SystemsAlarm systems of this magnitude are designed to prevent emergency water crises and technical disasters. However, business security systems can provide your company with the much needed protection several kinds of businesses demand today. Monitored burglar alarm systems usually have six components and are the spine of nearly all alarm systems, control panels, security keypads, motion detectors, door and window contacts, glass break censors, and sirens. When purchasing an alarm system for your business, recognize which components will you actually need and how to operate them in order to optimize systems full potential. There are several vendors out there today; compare products and prices to ensure you get the best system.

According to S. Rodgers, (2010). Apart from cameras, another security feature that is fast catching up with house and shop owners is the installation of alarms. The sight of an alarm box outside a house acts as a serious deterrent to most intruders. Choosing the right alarm system for your premises can be quite daunting- as the variety of alarms available is extensive. An alarm system with fundamental functions is enough for a normal house. They are also fairly classy in features. Traditionally, there were only vibration sensitive alarms, but these days the alarm systems come equipped with light sensors, heat sensors and even GPRS at times.A highly advanced system is simply a waste of money in case you stay home most of the day. For this purpose, a system that is capable of dissuading thieves is more than enough. There are several kinds of alarm systems and bells alarm systems. Although it is quite easy to install at home. Still to be more assured of safety, most of the people prefer to hire professionals to get it installed. To make it function, another person needs to call the police. A monitored alarm system is similar to bells only alarm system, but is monitored by a private central station 24 hours a day. If the alarm is activated, the monitoring station is informed, and they notify the police. You can provide a code number to stop a false alarm.

According to K. Labuschagne, (2010).There is many different reasons why it is important to have an alarm system. Alarm systems are one of the most popular methods of home security. If you have an alarm system in place, you can rest assured that it will probably deter thieves before they can take anything from your home. People do not realize how important alarm systems are. Firstly, you need to understand how alarm systems work. An alarm system will be connected around your home and then the sensors will be activated. If the sensors are on and someone enters the designated area, the alarm will go off, emitting a loud noise which can frighten away intruders. In most cases, the alarm will be linked to an armed response team who will respond to the triggered alarm. Some people choose to put their alarm on silent, so that it only emits a signal to the security company that the area has been breached. In this way it is easier to catch the thieves, as they think nothing is wrong whilst meanwhile the response unit is being dispatched to catch them in the act. After a factory closed in Rhyl, many of its residents became unemployed. With work opportunities virtually impossible, the foursome decided to open a clothing shop called Riot, for which they made their own clothes. They also opened a nightclub called the Gallery, where they were able to hone their own musical talent.

According to K. Dawson, (2010).Never has alarms been so important than in todays modern society. Burglaries and break-ins happen on a continuous basis across all communities and protecting ones home or business is an important aspect of modern life. Smoke alarms are equally as important and have always been so as fires are extremely dangerous often spreading very quickly and ravaging a home or building. Smoke alarms are truly life-saving pieces of equipment that no house, shop, office or building of any kind should be without.Alarms play an important role in our safety. Whether it is protecting our home against fires or deterring burglars from entering our home, an alarm system will alert us to the danger and enable us to act quickly and minimize the risk. Traditional house alarms work as motion sensors and sound an alarm when an invisible barrier is crossed. Most modern day systems are hooked up to a security company or local police station that will send a guard or policeman to the property when the alarm sounds. Alarms of this nature are extremely effective and it is possible to secure the home and office well with this equipment.

Taking home or office security further however, a camera security system can be the best option to take. CCTV and wireless cameras work as very effective deterrents as they increase the chances of the criminal being caught. There are many different types of camera available including hidden wireless cameras that can be placed out of sight, dome cameras that are discrete and can be used both indoors and outdoors as well as clearly displayed large CCTV cameras fitted with motion sensors and alarm systems so they can move and trip an alarm when security is breached. Prices are not what they used to be and modern burglar alarms and camera systems are now very affordable. It is even possible to purchase fake camera systems that provide the deterrent aspect at minimum cost! Smoke alarms have and always will be a crucial part of any building. Offices, schools, homes and commercial buildings should all be fitted with up to date and well-functioning systems. The risk of not having a fire alarm installed is simply too great. Fires can rampage through a building at incredible speed, and once they have grown to a certain size they can take a huge amount of man power to extinguish. By that time it is often too late and the building has been destroyed. There are few things more devastating than a house fire, and an alarm is the best way to ensure action can be taken as soon as possible to prevent the fire from spreading. When a fire alarm sounds in the home there is often time to get the fire under control and minimize the damage and risk to the house and of course the people inside. Smoke alarms range from simple smoke detectors to more thorough alarm systems with fire doors and other effective features. Budget and the type of building being protected will be the main factors on what type of system to purchase. Moderate sized homes, for example, will need nothing more than a smoke alarm fitted on each floor. A large school, however, will need much more equipment.

The need and importance of security systems

According to C. Munchies,(2011).In today's technologically advanced world, security systems play a dominant role. Home security systems and commercial security systems have both assumed tremendous importance. They are a great deterrent to intruders. Cutting edge technology and products are perfect to safeguard you and your family. What's more, products are available at highly competitive prices. This means that you don't have to shell out a fortune to protect yourself. Powerful surveillance is available at affordable prices. It is a misconception that security systems Atlanta are bank-breaking. In fact, it is the exact opposite. Look up on the web to know about lucrative deals and offers to save your hard-earned money. The advancements in technology have made way for wireless security systems. In fact, wireless systems have gained prominence over the years. This is because they are highly effective, easy to operate, easy to install and easy to maintain. You don't need to have exceptional technical expertise to use these systems. Home security systems and commercial security systems are user-friendly to say the least. Incidentally, commercial security system products can meet the needs of all kinds of industries. Superior quality products can meet the unique needs of specific industries.

One of the security appliances that have witnessed massive growth is the fire protection system. There has been an increasing demand for state-of-the-art fire alarm systems. After all, they can detect fire immediately. They alert people before the fire spreads. A fire alarm system can help keep potential disasters at bay. The occurrence of fire is a traumatic experience to say the least. It can impact you financially, physically, emotionally and psychologically too. Why take chances when advanced security systems are just a click away? Do yourself a favor order your equipment online at the touch of a button.Technology is in your hands it is just a phone call away. Do not hesitate to invest in superior quality technology to protect yourself and your loved ones too. Some accidents are inevitable; however, you are responsible for your own safety and security. Security systems Atlanta can well meet your security requirements. A complete line of safety systems is ideal for homeowners and businessmen as well. Home security and commercial security are both important. Top notch security products can deter burglary, potential damage and accidents.

The Importance of Wireless Anti-Theft Alarm System

According to Lucifer,(2005)., When it comes to the safety of family and house, we will think of hiring a surveillance system such as wireless anti-theft alarms for the home serve to protect our house. The problem with this is that not everyone knows what alarm to buy, nor guarantee we have that works, so we must be careful and choose the best we can get.Today, home alarm system and alarm systems are preferred to protect the safety of the house from thieves and criminals. Installing security systems is good for improving the safety of your family and your property.Wireless anti-theft alarms are used more because it is a lot easier to control for the user, nevertheless, the system is important to emphasize the fact that the operation of the wireless alarm is very similar to the traditional and we may find ourselves with different types, models and designs.

It must be said that the most popular are those that operate through sensors to castrate housing strange movements, often happens that this type of anti-theft alarms are triggered if alone, generating different kinds of false anti-theft alarms. Thanks to GSM wireless home anti-theft alarms are increasing their level of security and reliability. This has led to that more people turn to the installation of wireless anti-theft alarms in their homes every day, thanks to how easy it is to be installed, it is not necessary works to wire all zones.Dont need to carry cables, do not depend on electricity to function or in the telephone network, which gives us safety. Something that plays against is the price that a wireless alarm system is more expensive than a traditional cabling. The duration of the battery in the central, the siren or sensors depends on the brand of the manufacturer and, above all for the price of the device. You can find wireless home anti-theft alarms that work with batteries for a duration of 3 to 5 years, as for example the Diatom alarm with batteries that will last us five years or the Power max Pro whose siren works with a range of three years and may be placed anywhere in the House without worrying about the cables.

BLOCK DIAGRAM OF PC WATCHERTURN ON ALARM

This alarm circuit is designed using the 14-stage ripple counter CD4060 (IC1). When computer starts running, 5 Volt dc available from its USB port is fed to the circuit through polarity protection diode D1. When IC1 gets power from the PC, it resets through C3 and R1 and starts oscillating. Reservoir capacitor C1 maintains the voltage to IC1 stable so that the oscillation is not affected by slight variations in the USB power line, while capacitor C2 suppresses any unwanted high frequency noise.Resistor R2 and capacitor C4 maintain the oscillation of IC1, as indicated by the beeping of piezo-buzzer connected to its output (pins 3&5) through an npn transistor switch T1. With the components values shown, the buzzer beeps intermittently (after an initial delay of 30 secs) for near 30 secs, and then stops for the same period of time and the cycle repeats until the input condition is reversed.
