Project Concept
The Government of Gujarat endeavors to develop a strong and healthy environment for the
development of sports sector and better ancillary services to support it as a profession. The
objective of developing a sports college is to provide a platform and a range of opportunities for
students who aspire to pursue physical education and sports sciences for making a career in the
sports field.

► To develop and introduce curriculum in physical education and various sports and allied areas ► To produce competent coaches/ sports-trainer/ physical education instructor at various levels,
who will be fully equipped to impart coaching in various sports and undertake physical activity programmes for children and youth
► To prepare students with both an academic and applied understanding of the business side of sports
► To develop state-of-the-art research facilities and through scholarly work and publications contribute to the body to knowledge, and promulgate the findings to the students, trainers & professionals
► To design programme for employees of corporates and private sector, representing their firms at various district & state level events
► To develop programme for the promotion and development of fitness and concept of health among the students, trainers, professionals and community
It is proposed to setup a new sports college either at Himmatnagar or Devgadh Baria. The PrivateInvestor is expected to set up a state-of-the-art college in Gujarat to cater the need of sportsindustry and provide quality sports education.
The college will offer Certificate (3 month) diploma courses (1 year), undergraduate (3-year) and post graduate courses (2 year).

Admission to Courses
► Direct Admission Process: Students who have won medals in national & state level sportscompetition are exempted from selection process. Selection will be only on the basis of CollegeApplication Form
► The admission committee of the college prepares the merit list based on which the admissionsto the college take place
► Eligibility for admission: Aspirant should have passed the qualifying examination withminimum cut-off marks in subjects prescribed by AICTE, Gujarat board, CBSE, ICSE etc
For Certificate and diploma courses: 10+2 For Under graduate courses: 10+2 For Post graduation courses: Any graduate (10+2+3)
► Seats may be reserved for Sports Certificate holders, physically handicapped etc
► Fee: The admission committee decides on the fees to be paid by the students admitted to thecollege

Sports Sector in India and Gujarat
► Sports sector in India comprises of a range of
associated businesses such as sports
manufacturing, retail, tourism, sports medicine,
sports education, venues & infrastructure, media
& hospitality and merchandising
► Earlier, due to lack of sports culture and
corporate investments the sector was limited to
CSR initiatives. However, the sector has seen
steady growth in the past few years due to new
sporting leagues such as The Indian Super
League (ISL), the Pro Kabaddi League, Indian
Premier League (IPL), Hockey India League
(HIL) and Indian Badminton League (IBL)
Government Budget for Sports in India and Gujarat
► In order to enhance the allocation of funds to upgrade sports development in the country,
especially in small towns and district level towns and improve accessibility of sporting facilities,
the Government of India and Gujarat have tremendously increased the sports budget in the past
few years
► Gujarat government organizes a sports event ‘khel mahakumbh’ every year to encourage
National and international competition which has further induced budget increase to the sector

Approvals & Incentives
Approvals
A College or institution applying for affiliation to the Swarnim Gujarat Sports
University, Gandhinagar needs to submit an application to the Registrar,
SGSU six months prior to the proposed date of starting the collegeApplicationprocedure
► The Board in consultation with Academic Council evaluate the
proposals of the institution. This committee will be responsible for
explicitly recommending whether the affiliation should be granted or
refused atfer the final decision of BoG of SGSU either in whole or in
part and communicate the decision to the college or institution
► If the affiliation is granted, the Board of Governors will specify the
academic departments and courses in respect of which college is
affiliated
