Substantial Decrease in A1C1 Young patients and their caretakers are faced with the constant challenge of maintaining tight glycemic control. But a common side effect of intensive diabetes management is hypoglycemia.

A JDRF study showed how using a CGM system, such as the Dexcom G4 PLATINUM, for at least 6 days a week can lead to significant decreases in A1C, enabling patients to reach their glycemic goals without an increased risk of hypoglycemia.

CGM use (6 or more days/week) results in significant decreases in A1C across child, adolescent, and adult age groups

CGM benefits are sustained over time, demonstrating the importance of CGM in glucose management.

CGM FirstGlucose management is key to helping young patients understand what’s going on in their body. Injections and insulin pumps are delivery mechanisms that lack the insight your patient needs to know where their glucose status is. With CGM, not only will your patients see where their glucose is and where it’s headed, they can better optimize insulin delivery regardless of how they choose to deliver their insulin.

The Deiss study below shows significant reductions in A1C by those using injections or insulin pumps to manage their diabetes.3 With CGM, patients can see their glucose levels, make appropriate decisions, and stay ahead of their glucose curve.

Consensus Statement, Pediatric Diabetes (2012)4

This consensus statement has been developed by a world-wide expert panel of pediatric endocrinologists and represents the clinical guidance of the use of continuous glucose monitoring from the European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology, the Pediatric Endocrine Society and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes. Use of real-time CGM provides the following benefits:

Improved overnight control with hypoglycemia alarms

Enhanced understanding of diabetes management teaching

Improved daytime bolus dosing with trend arrows and hyper- and hypoglycemia alarms for real-time adjustments

Improved management of acute illnesses

Insulin injectors and pumpers benefit from decrease in A1C with real-time CGM.

Improvements attained without an increase in daily insulin dose.

BRIEF SAFETY STATEMENTThe Dexcom G4 PLATINUM (Pediatric) Continuous Glucose Monitoring System is a glucose monitoring device indicated for detecting trends and tracking patterns in persons (age 2 to 17 years) with diabetes. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Remove the System before MRI, CT scan, or diathermy treatment. Taking acetaminophen while wearing the sensor may falsely raise your sensor glucose readings. WARNING: Do not use the System for treatment decisions. The System does not replace a blood glucose meter. In a pediatric clinical study, larger differences were observed between this CGM device and actual blood glucose values compared to those differences observed in the adult clinical study. Use your blood glucose meter for treatment decision. In a pediatric clinical study, a significant number of low glucose events were not detected by CGM. Do not rely solely on CGM alerts to detect low glucose. If a sensor breaks and no portion of it is visible above the skin, do not attempt to remove it. Seek professional medical help if you have infection or inflammation. Report broken sensors to Dexcom Technical Support. The System is not approved for use in pregnant women or persons on dialysis. Sensor placement is not approved for sites other than under the skin of the belly or upper buttocks. Contact Dexcom Toll Free at 877-339-2664 or www.dexcom.com for detailed indications for use and safety information.
