PROFILE I am an energetic, organised and enthusiastic team worker who has developed a combination of skills related to customer satisfaction and the construction industry. I am studying a degree in Architectural Design and Technology at Salford University in order to improve on my knowledge in the construction industry with the aim to be employed in construction with the possibility to improve on my status at the company and create a permanent career. Throughout my degree the experience I have gained in the construction industry has come from working with different disciplines to complete bids for revamp projects and I am now looking to develop my skills and communication in the industry. Before university I was interested in 3D sculpture and photography from an early age. As part of previous work in education I experimented endlessly creating interesting sculptures in my art courses. This 3D work led to the development of models. In college I studied photography to enhance my skills and to improve on my creative side in my work, documenting life in different ways. Photography is still a hobby I enjoy today.

CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE The main construction experience I have gained is through my university degree working with different disciplines on projects. Multi Discipline Project 1 This was a revamp based project to develop and redesign a cricket club looking at the business opportunities and new building scheme for real clients and a committee. Working with Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors and Project Managers we put forward a bid for the construction and design of the cricket club. A full plan of works and schedule for the development was created. The bid contained as much detail as possible to win the competition, it included procurement, design, sustainability and costing. This project bid was presented in front of the committee members and was in the final top 10 competition chosen by the clients. Multi Discipline Project 2 This is a second revamp based project to develop another cricket club to improve and help the business succeed creating opportunities for the client and the community. This helps to develop my skills in a team environment and use previous experience to provide the best possible bid for the project with the client’s needs taken into account. Again in this multi discipline project I am working with Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors and Project Managers. The bid will include procurement designs, sustainability program and costing as well funding for the build and the important documents such as plan of works and schedules. This second project allows the team to develop skills learnt in university and put it into practice in a real life scenario with real clients. The project is currently on going and the collaboration of the bid is taking place.

WORK EXPERIENCE 2009 Asda Superstore This job was a two week work experience and I was offered a permanent job at the store however I was too young and before I was old enough to fill the job staff had to be employed. Jobs- Stacking shelves, Organising Stock and Communicating with Customers Skills- team organisation of work, ability to interact with customers 2009-2011 Murillo’s Spanish Restaurant The job at Murrillo’s Restaurant was mainly night shifts during the main services. During this role I progressed from a pot washer to the sous chef in the kitchen. I had a variety of responsibilities in the job such as organising kitchen staff and managing incoming orders under pressure. Jobs- organising the kitchen team, Sous Chef cooking under the main chef, organising stock, cleaning and

preparation of kitchen Skills- kitchen organisation and management, motivation towards the team, working under pressure and

time limits, working with food using artistic ideas 2011-Present Subway Restaurant During my time at the restaurant I realised that I wanted to develop my skills in customer service so I decided to apply for a job at subway where I could interact with the customer. There is a lot of responsibility in this job as most times I would be running the shop solely and also closing on my own, if this is not the case then I would be working at peak time with other staff to give excellent service and food at a fast pace to ensure customer satisfaction. Jobs- cleaning and preparation of the kitchen, sandwich making, organising stock and money deposits Skills- working under pressure, artistic food making and team motivation

PROJECTS Life Pod Dwelling Part of the second year of my degree studying Architectural Design and Technology. The project brief was to produce a retreat/ dwelling that is 70 sq./m for a client of my choice, with the options being a writer, an artist or a musician. This design was produced for the writer. The reason behind this design was to create multiple spaces at different levels to achieve a sense of space using the limit of 70 sq./m. This project was done using Autodesk Revit which helped to develop my skills on the program. The client requested that the dwelling was to have open views of the surrounding landscape, therefore I tried to use this theme throughout the design, creating multiple views from different aspects around the building. This was done by glass curtain walling. Skills developed Autodesk Revit experience Site planning Aesthetic design and lighting

PROJECTS Multi Discipline Project This project is a revamp project working with a team of project managers, quantity surveyors , building surveyors and architectural technologists. The team was 8 strong and we worked together to develop a construction bid for a new building at Flixton Cricket Club which included information in procurement, sustainability and costing as well as design concepts and new schemes for the community in terms of sport and community well being. My role in the team was to produce the design concept and work with the quantity surveyors to produce the correct sizes and keep the scheme in budget as well as a variety of team work and decisions. The project bid was presented to the clients and got into the top 10. Skills developed/ Information gained Working with a construction team Procurement and construction health and safety Presentation of work Working with real brief and clients

PROJECTS Multi Discipline Project 2 This is the second on-going revamp project at Cheetham Hill Cricket Club. This helps to develop my skills in a team environment and use previous experience to provide the best possible bid for the project with the client’s needs taken into account. The project is a real life scenario and the winning bid will be put forward to be constructed after planning permission. The project is in two phases, phase one is the reconditioning of the tennis courts with the main aim to create an all weather surfaced pitch for the club. The second phase is to develop a scheme for the club house and the surrounding area improving the business and facilities. At this stage in the project we are currently at the design and scheme decision point developing appropriate options and business development with site analysis. Skills developed/ Information gained Working with a construction team Designing new schemes Working with real brief and clients

3D MODELLING This model was made to show the design in the multi discipline project so that the clients had an idea of how the building would look and work. The model is made from balsa, the reason I used this was because I have previously used it before and wanted to improve my skills with the material. This was a great opportunity as there are various challenging shapes in this building. The model is to a scale of 1:100 as I believe it is pointless to do a model with no scale. The curves in this model are done with the use of warm water and soaking the wood. It is then bent around something and left to dry. The building itself is a cricket club and sports hall facilities. Skills developed Balsa wood modelling Heat and water bending of balsa Presentation and attention to detail

Page 12: dfdd

3D MODELLING The first project in university was to produce a terrace house in the style of a chosen architect. This architect was Frank Gehry as his work is most interesting and influential to me. The model was produced from elevations and floor plans and is made out of balsa wood. Balsa is a fairly easy material to work with as it comes in a variety of sizes. The model is was made to a scale of 1:100 so that I could develop my skills not only the material but in scale working as it is appropriate to show true sizes and aspects in a model. I decided to leave the model roofless to show the floor plan and the influence that Frank Gehry’s work has on the inside layout. Skills developed Balsa wood modelling Working with brittle materials Working from drawings

Page 13: dfdd

3D MODELLING This model is the first building I have developed which was created during my college art course, where I did a variety of sculptural 3D art. This model was created by taking shapes and lines from buildings. This could then be used to influence the sculpture by manipulating then to create a collaboration of shapes making the model. This model is made from plywood, cardboard and plastic. The reason for this was to create a big impact and larger pieces were able to be used. Skills developed Plywood modelling Working with thick materials Manipulation of shapes
