District 5000 Rotary Rice Day was held on January 11, 2014. We collected

130 pounds of rice in week 1. In week 2, we collected 280 pounds of rice,

totaling . We will continue to collect rice and donations until the end of

February, so please consider donating to this worthy project.

We’re going to begin the Keiki Dictionary Projects at Hilo Union on February

11 at 8:15 am. We are still trying to schedule the other three schools around

testing.

Polio in India– February 14-25, if interested, please look in this week’s

Baywatch for more information.

Rotary Foundation Dinner in Honolulu– Friday January 23 at 6:00 pm at the

Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel, 2500 Kuhio Ave. PRIP D.K. Lee will be the guest

speaker. See the invitation in this week’s newsletter for more information if

you would like to attend.

DG Phil will be coming to our February 12 GM for a special presentation,

please try to attend.

Weinberg Grant at YWCA– Saturday, February 22. Save this date on your

calendar!

District Assembly– Saturday, March 15, 8-12 pm at Kamehameha Schools

Rotarians will be walking in the Merrie Monarch Parade this year on April 26,

so please block off that date and get your walking shoes broken in!

District Conference– May 2-4, 2014 at Turtle Bay Resort– Extending the early

bird registration til January 31, for registration and meals.

RI Convention– June 1-4, 2014 in Sydney, Australia

Kris Speegle– All State will be sponsoring the next Vocational Pau Hana

Social, on Thursday, January 23, 5:30 pm at All State Insurance. Will be

sending around a sign-up sheet at the next GM. Seating capacity is

between 10-15 Rotarians and guests. Will have information on insurance

and other areas available and a lot of great pupus from Liko Lehua Café at

the event.

Richard Cunningham– Thank you to all the Rotarians who donated to HRYF

today. Each contribution of $50 will get you one entry to win the koa box.

It’s for a great cause; scholarships for graduating seniors like Alyx Hopkins.

Also as a reminder, your HRYF contributions can be used for missed meeting

fines, so it’s a great way to do both! Please let Kyle know if you would like

your HRYF contributions to double as missed meeting fines.

Sharon Scheele– As of last night, we have 9 students to participate in this

year’s RYLA event; 4 from St. Joseph, 4 through J.A., and 1 from

Kamehameha Schools Kea‘au. Liooking for corporate sponsors for the

students. Please contact me if you would like to be a sponsor.

Bettye Williams– Please save February 22 for the Weinberg Grant at the

YWCA. We need 25 Rotarians, sign up sheet will be going around today

and at future general membership meetings.

We are planning a fun weekend filled with fellowship, stimulating speakers, workshops, and Hawaiian culture. There will also be a

special dinner on Sunday night in honor of Past International President Sakuji Tanaka and to renew bonds of friendship with our
