About the Dhanraj Baid Jain College

The Tamil Nadu Educational and Medical Trust (Team Trust) was formed in 1972

by Jain Minority initiated by Founder 1. Shri. C.Ratanchand Savansukha,

2. Shri. C.L.Metha, 3. Suganmal Sri Srimal and 4. Shri. Dayachand Savansukha to

promote Arts, Science, Technical and Medical Education. It is established with a primary

objective of providing higher education to deserving Jain students. However, others are

also admitted without reference to religion, Caste or creed, their rights of conscience

being respected.

The Tamil Nadu Educational & Medical Trust (Team Trust) has the following

Educational Institutions.

c) Misrimal Navajee Munoth Jain School of Architecture

d) Dhanraj Baid Institute of Management

e) C.L.Baid Metha College of Pharmacy

The Jain community well known for its philanthropy, runs several educational

institutions, hostels, dispensaries, hospitals, beggar homes, pinjarapoles etc., in the city.

The starting of D.B.Jain College was the culmination of the growing aspiration of the

Jain community to run a College exclusively for Commerce subjects. It was hoped that

the College would be able to provide facilities for advanced studies in Commerce and

allied subjects and the hope has come true.

Dhanraj Baid Jain College came into being on 30th June 1972 by the spontaneous

donation of Rs.7.5 Lakhs by Dhanraj Baid Charities Trust and Rs.2.5 Lakhs by Sri.

Champalal Savansukha Family Trust. The donations were provided by Sri.

C.Ratanchand Savansukha, Managing Trustee to promote high standard of Commerce

Oriented Education. Sri. C.Ratanchand Savansukha was the President and Dr.C.L.Metha

was the Secretary & Correspondent, and they continued till 1995. In consonance

with the sprit and sentiments of the College Management, it is gratifying to note

that Dr.Harish L Metha the multi-dimensional personality the illustrious son of

Dr.C.L.Metha and alumnus of this College is the present Secretary and Correspondent.

The College has a team of dedicated men on its management which has always been

responsive to the growing needs of the student community in a fast changing world and

has been introducing new job oriented courses and subjects. Under their able foresighted

dynamism and unwavering commitment, the College has completed 41 years of service

and the late Founder Secretary Dr.C.L.Metha’s noble policy “No capitation fee in any

sort of form”, which is unique in the management of education, is being followed under

the secretary ship of his son Dr. Harish L Metha.

Situated on a vast campus within a mile from the seashore in Jyothi Nagar,

Oggiyam Thorapakkam along the Old Mahabalipuram Road, the now famous I.T

Highway, the place is surrounded by Industrial houses close to the Instronic Campus – in

information Technology, Tidel Park.

The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year.

Development of Visual Communication Lab.

Getting approval from AICTE and University of Madras for M.B.A Course to our College.

Negotiate further with Griffith University of Australia for entering into collaboration.

Applying for Potential for excellence from UGC.

Applying to UGC for Renewal of Autonomy.

To enhance the employable opportunities of the students.

To develop self-employment skills.

To enhance the effective communication skills.

To increase the dissemination of knowledge through seminars and workshops.

To augment the infrastructure facilities.

To provide hands-on training to facilitate computer literacy.

To apply for more major and minor projects.

To motivate the students towards research-orientation.

To implement the suggestions obtained through student’s feedback.

To provide more career guidance programmes.

To create internet access in the library.

To make the students environment-conscious.

To develop the reading habits.

To encourage more student participation in extra and co-curricular activities.

To render monetary assistance to the students in need.

Membership of ICT ACADEMY enables updation of knowledge.

Sports students win laurels in Inter-Collegiate Tournaments, National Level and in State Level matches.

More facilities like membership of INFLIBNET are provided in the library.

Upgradation of Networking :

The MCA Library of the College is fully computerized and Networking for all the Departments including office.

Activities Related to attaining Autonomy :

Academic Council Meeting was conducted usually as per the norms of the UGC for the Autonomous College.

Different committees have been introduced for the smooth running of the College particularly “Autonomous”.

Special coaching classes for the students who have secured very low marks in the examinations.

Activities for student support programmes.

Soft Skill Programmes have also been conducted for the students to improve communication skills.

Extension Activities :

Staff members have been assigned Paper Valuation work in the College and different Universities.

Awareness on Health Programme was conducted.

Blood Donation Camp was also conducted.

Examination Centre for IDE, University of Madras and Chartered Accounts Examinations.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

Our College organized many activities through department associations. Learning

is not confined to classrooms. The faculties and the students are encouraged and

motivated to organize as many programmes as possible. The entire campus of the

College is buzzling with many numbers of academic programmes throughout the year,

which help the students to develop the leadership qualities as well as team spirit. During

this academic year there were around 99 departmental porgrammes. The unique events

II ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE STAFF MEMBERS:

Teaching is designed towards preparing students for success in such a way that they emerge as responsible and grounded adults of tomorrow-teachers are the guide posts that show them the way for achieving high quality paths ahead. But attaining such meaningful development requires educators to hold themselves up to certain definite standards. Evening College staff in order to upgrade their quality of learning and teaching, they pursue Ph.D research programmes, attending Seminars and Conferences in various Universities and Colleges. They upgrade their qualification by passing NET Examinations which are highlighted as under:

Mrs.C.Mekkal Roy, Mr.S.Gothandaraman and Mr.AMuruganandam Department of Commerce have passed SET in Commerce.

Mr.K.Muthuvel, Lecturer of Mathematics and Mrs.V.Nisha, Lecturer of Computer Science have passed SET Exam.

Dr.S.Balaji, HOD of P.G. Department of Computer Science and Dr.J.Senthil Kumar of Computer Science Department have been awarded Ph.D in this year.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The Students of our College actively participated in the “NSS activities, NCC,

Sports as well as Cultural events” in our College and participated in various competitions

in various Colleges and got many prizes to their credit. Our NSS unit has conducted

programmes like Rain Water Harvest Training Programme, Eye camp, Air-force

awareness and Blood donation camp.

NSS SPECIAL CAMP PROGRAMME

1. Our College NSS conducted the Blood Donation Camp on 22nd September 2012, which was organized by Mr.T.S.Bhaskaran, General Manager, Indian Bank, Chennai South. The Chief Guest of honour was Mr.R.Rajkumar, President, Association of Voluntary Blood donors, Tamil Nadu.

2. Free Hepatitis – B checkup was organized for our students on 30.7.2012 and 31.7.2012 is association with Global Hospitals, Chennai.

3. Free General Health Camp is association with Global Hospitals, Chennai was conducted on 10.9.2012 and 11.9.2012 in our College.

4. Our N.S.S Unit participated in the Walkathon on spread the awareness of Healthy heart on the World Heart Day (29.9.2012) organized by Global Hospitals, Chennai.

5. Cancer Awareness Camp was conducted.

6. Two free eye camps were organized by our NSS Unit. One camp was conducted by Agarwal Eye Hospital and another camp by Vasan Eye Care.

7. The Madras Voluntary Blood Bureau has given an award to our College N.S.S Unit for donating more number of units.

NCC CAMP

1. Guard of honour was presented by NCC cadets to Minister Thiru.T.K.Chinnaiya, Honourable Minister of Animal Husbandry visited our College.

2. Guard of honour was presented by NCC cadets to Mayor Thiru.Saidai Duraiswamy, Corporation of Chennai visited our College.

The Department of Training and Placement has been fully functional and

proactive. The department has also been provide its quality services not only in

employment of students during studies, but also their employability through well planned

and organized training & personality development programmes to face the corporate

world. The placement department functions under the supervision of Prof.S.Ganapathy,

Placement Officer, Prof.B.Jagadhesan, Placement Co-ordinator and assisted by students.

The department operates all through the year to arrange campus interviews. The slogan

for department is “We care for your career growth”.

The Department of Training & Placement organized various training

programmes during the academic year 2012-13 for our students to enhance their skills. It

has arranged for career talks, expert lecturers, workshops, online insurance test, training

for SC/ST students, Basic English course and such other programmes besides Campus

Interview. The department has organized one day national level quiz competition during

the academic year 2012-13.

Several companies namely HCL Bserve, Met Life Insurance, First Source

Solutions, Career Net Consulting, Reliance Diary Foods, Venran Tech, Pleasant

Healthcare, Tata Consultancy Services, HDB Financial Services, Adecco, Dynasty

Securities have visited our College for campus recruitment. Totally 509 students have

been selected for placement in different companies in this academic year 2012-13. This

placement drive will continue and efforts will be made to place more number of students
