1 Introduction

1.2 Preserving the Environment . . .Minolta supports the challenge of preserving the environment and does all that it can to actively participate in preventing and resolving ecological problems. Our production is certified under ISO 9000 (quality management) and ISO14001 (environment management).

Takeback and Reutilisation

Used devices, empty toner and drum units and used toner and drum units are taken back by a local MINOLTA partner and processed for recycling and reutilisation of materials.

What is Energy Star®?

After long periods of idleness, Energy Star® copiers switch to Energy Saver Mode or turn themselves off. This function can reduce the annual energy costs for the unit by up to 60%.

Copiers with a high copying speed automatically switch to 2-sided copying mode. This reduces the costs for copy media and the volume of paper consumed.

Did you know that manufacturing a sheet of paper requires 10 times as much energy as making a copy?

The conservation of paper thus also has a direct global effect on the conservation of energy.

This copier complies with the Energy Star® energy efficiency criteria.

Use of Recycled Paper

This unit is suited for processing recycled paper that meets the requirements of ENV 12281 or DIN 19309. For details, consult your local MINOLTA partner.

A Brief Explanation of Important Concepts and Symbols

Terms such as original, copy, lengthwise and crosswise, which are used to describe various items, have their own, clearly defined meanings. The most important of these terms are defined below.

Original and copy

The original is the document being duplicated by the copy cycle.

Feeding direction

The feeding direction is the path the paper takes through the copier. The feeding direction is shown by the arrows in the following illustration.

Original(document to be copied)

Copy(copy of the original document)

1 Introduction

Width and length

When paper sizes are given, the first value is always the width of the paper (side A). The second value is the length of the paper (side B).

Lengthwise and crosswise

If side A of the paper format is shorter than side B, this is referred to as lengthwise.

If side A of the paper format is longer than side B, this is referred to as crosswise.

Abbreviations are frequently placed after the paper sizes to indicate lengthwise or crosswise more accurately: Lengthwise: L such as A4 L Crosswise: C such as A4 C

7.7 These Functions Cannot Be Combined! The following table shows the explanations of the function combinations.

The following symbols are used:

O The function that was activated first has priority.

× The function that was activated last has priority.

A One of the functions must be disabled before a copy cycle can be started.

Ö The combination will be automatically disabled in copy mode 1>2. The first selected function has priority.

A The combination is not possible if a specific paper size is set. The function that was activated first has priority.

B “Auto Size” will be automatically activated.

C “Mixed Original Detection” is always activated.

D “Mixed Original Detection” is activated with “Auto Detect” and not activated with “Size Input”.

F The zoom factor will be automatically set to × 1.000.

G Zoom factors cannot be stored in interrupt mode.

H The function that was activated last has priority. (“Auto Paper” will be automatically activated.)

I The function that was activated last has priority. (“Non Sort” will be automatically activated.)

J The function that was activated last has priority. (“Sorting” will be automatically activated.)

K Functions only if “Separation” and “2-sided Copy” are activated with “Book Original”.

L These functions cannot be combined except with “Separation”. (The function that was activated first has priority.)

M The combination is not possible, except if “Auto Paper” is activated and “Staple” was automatically disabled. (This combination is only possible if combined with “Z-Fold”.)

N This combination is only possible if “Auto Paper Mode” is applied, the FN-5 finisher is installed and “Stapling” is disabled automatically. (This combination is only possible if combined with “Z-Fold”.) If an FN-105, FN-106 or FN-503 finisher is installed, this combination is only possible if the original pages have varying widths and “Auto Paper Mode” is enabled. (“Staple” is automatically disabled.)

P If the FN-5 finisher is installed, the function enabled last is given priority (“Centre Staple” is enabled automatically). If an FN-105, FN-106 or FN-503 finisher is installed, the function enabled last is given priority.

C This combination is only possible if the finishing mode of the Z-fold differs from the size of the cover sheet or the inserted page. The function that was activated first has priority. (Neither the cover sheet nor the inserted page can be Z-folded.)

R The combination is only possible if the Finisher FN-5 is installed. If an FN-105, FN-106 or FN-503 finisher is installed, the function enabled last is given priority.
