Diane Burns of Coldwell Banker Knows St. Croix Real Estate From the Ground Up — Count on this savvy entrepreneur to provide uniquely positive experiences — M eet St. Croix resident Diane Burns and you cannot help but feel inspired by her unique and varied accomplishments. Truly the consummate entrepreneur, Diane exudes a positive energy that is delightfully contagious. A sales agent at Coldwell Banker Land-de Wilde Realty in Gallows Bay for the last seven years, Diane brings to the table a wide array of fascinating skill sets. Beyond her inherent love for and knowledge of St. Croix real estate and all it has to offer, Diane also is a licensed contractor, journeyman electrician and neighborhood restoration visionary. From her earliest memories, Diane will tell you her passion for life has been rooted in the sheer joy of entrepreneurial challenges. Born and raised in Michigan and guided by her parents Jerry and Kay, she became adept at investing and managing property from the tender age of 18. By age 23, the young real estate developer found herself in a position to travel to Frederiksted, St. Croix— sight unseen—to make a transaction on a 23-unit building. The two-week long experience never left her thoughts. "Back then, the roads in Judith's Fancy were all dirt roads," she commented with a nostalgic smile. She added, "I vowed that when I could afford it, I would move to St. Croix." Diane worked at General Motors from age 18 and took an early retirement at age 30. Meanwhile, she continued to hone her skills in land development by renovating and restoring historic properties in Lansing and Grand Rapids. Diane's other exciting experiences range from ownership in a popular nightclub to managing a catering company to working as a project engineer. Her many other accomplishments simply are too numerous to list. True to her dreams, Diane relocated permanently to the Virgin Islands in 2002. Happily, her mother and father followed suit. "My parents have been married for 54 years," she said with a grin. "They are the ones who inspired me to follow my dreams." It should come as no surprise that in addition to her position at Coldwell Banker, Diane has additional business interests. She owns and operates B Squared Construction with partner, Bonnie Bronson. The firm provides new construction, additions and remodeling services of the finest quality. Recently, B Squared completed a dramatic renovation in Frederiksted at the home of Dr. Sidney Banks and Jack DePetris. "Urban development is my specialty," she advised. Tropical Homes Summer 2010 14 Diane Burns of Coldwell Banker Land-de Wilde Realty in Gallows Bay also owns and operates B Squared Construction.
