• Must always have TWO choices – otherwise, it is not a DIchotomous key!• Must proceed in a step-wise fashion, resulting the identification of

each individual.• Can be done in the outline fashion as seen in class with the

salamanders, or it can be a flow chart, as seen on the next slide.
