Difference between Social Change and Planned Change
Social Change Planned Change
1. Social change is a process in which
there is a significant alteration in the
structure and functioning of social
system.
1. Planned change refers to the conscious initiatives
made by people to alter the circumstances
situation and factors that will lead to desired
outcomes by the actor or initiator of change
process.
2. Social change involves
psychological process.
2. Planned change involves process of
internalization and rationalization.
3. Change is unpredictable. 3. Change is deliberate and predictable.
4. Social change takes place by itself in
a continuous manner.
4. Planned change requires initiation of ideas and
pooling of resources from within the community
or procurement of resources from outside.
5. Social change occurs by the process
of :
i. Perception or understanding
of aspects of reality which
already exist.
ii. Diffusion
iii. Invention
5. For the planned change to occur in a community
Kurt Lewin has described three stages of change
process:
i. Unfreezing
ii. Moving
iii. Refreezing
