The Speaking Notes for Different People One Mission 

 

Regina is a great place. In a recent Omnibus Survey Regina residents rated their quality of life  

higher than residents in other Canadian cities like Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. 

 

But there are issues which if we as a community leave unaddressed threaten to undermine the 

economic and social well being for all of us. 

 

Regardless of our own individual economic position or social status there are forces beyond our 

control that can devastate us and take everything we thought we had or rob us completely of 

somebody we treasure and love 

 

That for all the good and very best things about our community there are facts about it that 

though we would like to ignore or simply too compelling to do so. 

 

What we do know with certainty is that by tomorrow there will be hundred of people in this 

community who find themselves in crisis. some of them the youngest and most vulnerable ‐ who 

have no voice and had no choice about the circumstance they are in and whose only real hope is 

that there is a community compassion enough to care 

 

All of these challenging issues both the individuals involved and for the community as a whole 

are complex and demanding. 

 

But that's why we are here, because we know that together we can offer the possibility of real 

change in both individual's lives and for our community as a whole. 

 

It is possible when we focus on what matters most we can change the numbers. And we can 

change them dramatically so. 

 

 

And we act our shared values of being compassion  and caring and  community we can offer 

those in need of shelter and safety a place to heal, to rebuild and begin again 

 

And we together put our collective energies and talents together we can create the 

fundamental and positive change we want to see in this community.
