The Collections

My digital library is dedicated to graphic design associated with vinyl records.  Specifically, it includes two types of material, each of which will have its own collection within the library:

o generic center labelso generic 12" sleeves

The focus is on artwork the record companies designed for themselves, rather than for any particular release, e.g. LP cover art.

Items

All items will come from my own collection.  The criteria for inclusion is simply whether or not I find the label or sleeve interesting.

This should generate at least 50 items between the two collections.

The library will use the following standard Dublin Core fields:

o Creator: the record company that issued the label or sleeve

o Date: the date the label or sleeve's record was issuedo Format: the format of the label or sleeve's recordo Relation: a link to another item produced by the same

label, or issued with another item (e.g. a label and a sleeve that belong to the same record)

o Description: a brief description of the record companyo Identifier: a unique identifier for the item

Metadata

In addition, the library will likely also use the following field specific to my items:

o Location: the record company's location

Plugins

The library will utilize at least two plugins: • Item Relations - so that the relationships between

labels and sleeves from the same label can be defined

• Contributions - so that users can upload items of their own

I will probably also use the Comments plugin to allow users to add observations.

TagsI may use tagging to create categories for different types of design, e.g. "abstract", "landscape", etc. Alternately, I may also use tagging for genre, artist or song information. Since the library's focus is purely on graphic design, the items' metadata will not include any information on the music on the associated records.  Tagging may be a more informal means to categorize the labels and sleeves in a way that relates to the music.
