C M Y K “It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” Port Blair, Sept. 20 The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is committed to take forward the vision of the Govt. of India in transiting from the existing fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles, as a step towards environmental preservation. Forging ahead in this direction, the Transport Department, A&N Administration after inducting electric cars for Government Departments has now embarked upon procuring 40 electric air-conditioned buses in A&N Islands. As part of this initiative, the Transport Department, A&N Islands has signed an agreement with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC) for operation of 40 e-buses. As per the agreement, 40 Air Conditioned Electric Buses (zero emission) will be provided to Transport Department by NTPC. Out of the 40 electric buses to be purchased through NTPC, the first lot of 20 buses in the first phase is expected to reach Port Blair during the month of October, 2020. The design, logo and the banner of the buses has already been approved and it will be a 35 -seater air- conditioned bus and has the capacity to cover a distance of 200 KMs on a single charge. These buses will provide a noiseless, pollution free and comfortable public transport to the citizens. The buses are also are fitted with GPS based vehicle tracking system, security cameras and panic buttons for the safety of commuters, especially women and children. Initially, these 20 buses will be operated in South Andaman Eviction of encroachers from Govt. land 94,950 sq.mts. of Govt. land restored by Revenue Department Port Blair, Sept. 20 The District Administration has taken all possible efforts to identify the encroachments took place during COVID-19 pandemic and strict enforcement drive is on to evict the same. As a result, an area of 94,950 sq.mts. of Govt. land has been restored into Govt. Khata in last one month. During the period of last 30 days, the Revenue Department has removed encroachments committed over Govt. Land in the shape of temporary structures fencing and saplings in various villages of South Andaman District viz Little Andaman, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Garacharma, Brookshabad, South Point, School Line, Bambooflat, Badmaspahar, Humphrygunj, Stewartgunj, Mithakari, Muslim Basti and Tushnabad. In this direction, new initiatives are taken at regular intervals by assessing the problems faced by the consumers. Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs was well aware of the problems being faced by the consumers while booking LPG cylinders and accordingly, took up the matter with all stakeholders like IOCL, LPG Distributers etc. With the establishment of network connectivity in South Andaman District, the matter has been pursued and the Department requested M/s lOCL to come up with the facility of online booking of LPG cylinders by the consumers. IOCL has promptly responded to the request and came up with the facility of online booking for which trial runs were taken and found to be successful. The facility of digital booking through multiple modes for LPG cylinders in Port Blair has now been launched and in the first phase the customers of CCS, Reem Indane service and Naval Indane can avail the facility. In the second phase, the facility will be extended to the customers of remaining distributers shortly. On receipt of information, MRCC Port Blair immediately launched multifarious swift Search and Rescue Mission. With due consideration to the criticality of the situation owing to prevailing cyclonic weather, without wasting any further time, Indian Coast Guard diverted CG aircraft which was on routine maritime surveillance for investigation and to access the situation. Meanwhile, MRCC staff made several attempts but was not able to establish any communication with the Port Blair, Sept. 20 The Andaman & Nicobar Administration is making best efforts to provide essential services in a time bound manner for the benefit of the Islanders. To facilitate the same in remote areas of North and Middle Andaman District, dedicated camps have been chalked out for the entire month of September by the District Administration, N&MAndaman. As part of this, Special Revenue Camp Courts were organized at Baratang Island today to facilitate service delivery. Altogether, 113 certificates of various categories- Income, local, mutation, family declaration, affidavits, senior citizen certificate were issued on the spot. Further, to facilitate access District Administration, N&M Andaman organizes Special Revenue Camp Courts at Baratang 113 certificates of various categories issued on the spot to citizens to medical services for non- COVID patients living in far-flung areas, widespread health camps have been conducted. 24 such camps were successfully completed in the month of September in remote areas of Baratang, Rangat, Billiground, Tugapur and Diglipur. During all of these camps, protocol of social distancing were observed to prevent spread of Corona virus infection. These camps have benefitted the people in the District and schedule for next set of camps is being prepared by providing services closer to their homes and minimizing public movement. (Contd. on last page) Port Blair, Sept. 20 With the objective to ensure that girl students are not denied the opportunity to continue their studies due to distance to schools, parents financial affordability and other societal problems, the Education Department is in pursuit of establishing Girls' Hostel at prominent locations of the Islands to encourage girls in accomplishing their formal schooling at all levels. Accordingly, two such hostels are coming up one each at the premises of Govt. Girls School at Port Blair and another at Rangat in Middle Andaman. The 100 Bedded Girls Hostel at Govt. Girls Sr. Secondary School, Port Blair is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.2.87 crore. The Block-I of this Hostel comprising of 40- bed which also houses dinning space and kitchen has already completed. The remaining Blocks totaling 60 beds is in the final stages of completion. The finishing works are being carried out and expected to be completed by all means by November this year. The hostel has been constructed as divyang friendly and having rooms to accommodate divyang students in the ground floor with appropriate toilet facilities. The study conducted by India's leading management strategy expert Rajesh Pillania is based on a nationwide survey covering 16,950 people between March and July 2020 and tracks the impact of COVID-19 on people. In the final happiness rankings, Mizoram, Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the top three states and UTs while Odisha, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh are the bottom three. Among the big states, Punjab, Gujarat and Telangana lead the happiness rankings while among the smaller states, Mizoram, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are at the top. The research names the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and the Lakshadweep as the happiest Union Territories. "Happiness is a subjective concept and the differences in rankings are due to differences in the components of happiness across the states and the UTs. This study used six components to measure happiness - work and work- related issues such as earnings and growth; relationships, including family and friends; physical and mental health; philanthropy; spiritual orientation; and the impact of COVID-19 on happiness. All these components are found to be significant in the regression analysis and explain the differences in happiness scores," Pillania, currently teaching at MDI Gurugram, told The Tribune. He also found that India sustained well through the COVID- 19 pandemic. "The spirit of India is quite resilient and the impact of COVID-19 varied across states and UTs. However, the Department is alsoplanning to deploy some buses in AndamanTrunk Road (ATR) for the comfort and ease ofthe commuters of North and Middle Andaman.To materialize this plan, the Department hasplans to establish charging station at Rangat, sothat the Air-Conditioned Electric Buses can coverthe distance of around 300 KMs from Port Blairto Diglipur, without any interruption. With the introduction of these electric buses,the general public will get quality publictransport and increase in mobility, therebydecreasing the number of personal vehicles on road besides zero tail pipe emissionleading to lesser pollution and lessening congestion in city roads. The second lotof 20 buses will be operated under 'Smart City Project'. NTPC will provide driversfor these buses and carryout the maintenance work while the conductors for thesebuses will be provided by the Transport Department.The NTPC has agreed to set up a set of fast charging stations so that electricbuses do not face any difficulty after arrival. The Transport Department has beencontinuously working to improve the quality, comfort, reliability and assuredtransport facility to the commuters in all parts of the UT.The introduction of electric buses will go a long way in protecting the diverseecology of the Islands. It may be recalled that the Transport Department has procured 70 electric carsfor the use of 34 Departments/Divisions. All these electric cars have been handedover to the respective Departments/Divisions, after completion of all the formalitiesand are operational now.
