Digital printing in PBM

New features as from version 7.14 R0:

1. New way of calculating clicks (HP Model) next to the existing model (Xerox)

Extra click cost for spot colors

Determine the speed of printing according to the number of colors used

2. Staggered click prices

3. Influence of the print sheet size on the click price

4. The waste is now included in the clickcost

5. Separate ink cost per press

6. Different ink consumption per screening

Click-Models for Digital Press

Existing clickmodel: Click cost (black) and click cost (colour) (eg. Xerox)

• per sheet, per side

• click black : on one side only black

• click colour : all other cases

Additional clickmodel: Click cost per colour (black, colous, spot colour) (eg. HP Indigo)

• per sheet, per side, per colour

• click black : if colour black is used (click cost black is activated at that colour)

• click colour: per basic colour (ink type = basic) different from black

• click spot colour: per all other colours

Examples:

1. Click cost (black) and click cost (colour)

• CMYK Front only 1 click colour

• K Front + Back 2 clicks black

• CMYK Front + K Back 1 click colour, 1 click Black

• CMYK Spot Front only 1 click colour

2. Click cost per colour (black, colous, spot colour)

• CMYK Front only 1 click black, 3 clicks colour

• CK Front + Back 2 clicks black, 2 clicks colour

• K + Spot Front only 1 click black, 1 click spot colour


• CMYK + Spot Front only 1 click black, 3 clicks colour, 1 click spot colour

Colour definition for Digital Press:

Prinect Business Manager Explorer > Parameters > Calculation parameters > Colours

Make sure that Black is marked as “click cost (black)”.

The Ink types defines whether this is a colour click or spot colour click:

- Basic: Colour click or Black (checkbox)

- All other: Spot colour click

Attention: It is a recommendation to plan a Digital Printing Machine with the amount of 12 printing

units. In this case there is an additional use of Inline Finishing Units possible.

and the Basic Speed of Printing

Remark: After setup of the new Digital-print-Press changes of the parameters at any times possible.

Customize the cost parameters (e.g. a new digital press Linoprint C901)

New feature: an extra type of ‘costs per click’ in the cost management (estimates)


Create new records for ‘cost per click’ with category ‘costs per click e.g. Black, Colour, PMS colour (spot colour)’

Cost management (estimates) > Parameter > Cost units

Cost units > New F11

To define the Cost open the menue “Define cost”


New feature: staggered prices for the click cost + influence of the size on the price.

After activation of “Click costs” in the Tab “Technical” of the Digital Press is a new Button in the large menue

available > “Click cost”

Based on the overall total number of clicks per type and size of the print sheet:

Sum per type of click (black, colour and spot colour)

Overall total of all the sheets on this press

Different Printing Speed depending on the number of colors (HP Indigo):

New feature in the special runs: Create new special runs per amount of colours used. Set the maximum speed.

(If no match can be found for the amount of used colour, the printing speed will fall back on the default speed

defined in the press)

HP Model default speed: 5000 prints/hour/colour


Examples for Special runs:

1 front, 0 back = 8000 p/h






1 front, 1 back = 2 front, 0 back = 4000 p/h


Ink cost

Cost of ink for a digital press is much higher than for a conventional press

Even for two digital presses the costs per ink can be different

If the cost of the ink is included in the click cost, set the ink consumption to zero.


Ink consumption

For digital ink presses the resolution (screening) is an important factor of the ink

consumption

Calculation advantages

The same color code can be used to calculate conventional and digital solutions.

The ink consumption can be more accurate if higher dpi is printed.

These new features are not limited to digital presses only. Different pricing and consumption

settings can be used also for conventional presses.
