MEQUON, Wis. – Senior Keith Kahlfeldt recently became the 15th player in CUW Men’s Basketball program history to score 1,000 career points. CU-WFalcons.com looked back at Kahlfeldt’s career and what it took to achieve this milestone. In the beginning: Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) joined the CUW program in the 2012-13 sea-son and as true freshman he appeared in all 27 games averaging 12.5 minutes per contest. He scored 106 points in his rookie campaign, which averaged out to 3.9 points. Kahlfeldt shot 38.3 percent (41-of-107) from the field and did not attempt a single 3-point field goal. From the charity stripe, he shot 75 percent (24-of-32) which ranked fourth on the team. In his first col-legiate game at Carroll, the forward saw eight minutes of playing time and scored two points. As the year went on, Kahlfeldt would score a season-high 10 points on three different occa-sions; with the first coming in an 80-64 win over Mount Saint Vincent, the second came in a 74-61 win against MSOE and the final 10 point scoring performance came in a 61-55 win at Wisconsin Lutheran.

A year under the belt: With a successful fresh-man season under his belt, Kahlfeldt took some massive strides in his sophomore season. He moved into the starting lineup, starting 25-of-26 games while averaging 28.2 minutes per game. It was a tough year for the team finishing with an 11-15 record, but despite the setbacks, Kahlfeldt continued to impress and improve. He led the team in scoring with 15.6 per game (405 points) while shooting 46.1 percent (159-of-345) from the field. After not attempting a single 3-point field goal as a freshman, Kahlfeldt expanded his shooting range and shot 33.3 percent from downtown (29-of-87). From the free throw line he made 58 of his 81 attempts shooting 71.6 percent. Kahlfeldt had seven 20+ point games during the season scoring 29 points twice, against Finlandia and at Lakeland. He also tallied a career-high 33 point game in the fourth game of the season against Aurora. Kahlfeldt’s efforts

earned him a spot on the All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Second Team.

One step back, two steps forward: In his junior season, Kahlfeldt’s scoring took a step back from a year before, but as a team the Falcons captured the NACC Tournament Championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tourna-ment. Kahlfeldt was a big contributor to CUW’s successful season, as he finished second on the team in scoring averaging 11.5 points per game (334 points). He shot 38.2 percent (123-of-322) from the field and only 24.1 percent (19-of-79) from 3-point range and 74.2 percent (69-of-93) from the free throw line. Kahlfeldt scored a sea-son-high 26 points at home against Edgewood and reached double figures in 19 games during his junior year. Milestone in sight: With 845 points scored entering his senior season, Kahlfeldt was only 155 points away from becoming the 10th play-er in program history (NCAA era) to score 1,000 points. He got off to a hot start this year scoring 105 points through the first seven games of the season, which included a 31-point outing in a 112-99 win at Rockford in early December. After the hot start, Kahlfeldt did not reach double-dig-its for the next five games but pulled within 25 points of 1,000 point milestone. Against Edge-wood reached double-figures scoring 16 points in the 94-54 win over the Eagles. During the next game at Wisconsin Lutheran, Kahlfeldt scored seven first half points making him only two points from the milestone. At the 13:20 mark in the second half, Kahlfeldt drove into the middle of the lane and put up a right-handed running floater that found the bottom of the net and notched his 1,000th career point and finished the game with 16 points. He then added 13 points this past Saturday at Benedictine. With 10 regular season games remaining and possibly more, Kahlfeldt will have the opportunity to con-tinually add upon his already successful Falcon career and could potentially crack the top-10 all-time scoring list in program history.
