Pascual explained, “Citizens and leaders have a stake in the construction of the Monument. We’re not asking much. It’s an amount that I would think everybody can afford. I hope we can be able to reach out to the grassroots and mobilize their contribution as they make the Covenant to our country, to our nation, to our peace, prosperity, and national union.” Meanwhile, Pamathalaan Academy President Rafael A. Morales added, “Building the Covenant Monument is a tangible manifestation of the Academy to realize the prophetic vision of Rizal that Philippines will prosper once we achieve moral redemption.” The design of the planned Covenant Monument was drawn by Nestor O. Vinluan, Professor Emeritus of the UP College of Fine Arts. “It’s a flowing form like the Holy Spirit. It’s abstract. It’s not identifiable to any religion. It’s a repeated form parang wing tapos four- sided. May kakaibang spheres kasi ‘pag tiningnan mo heart-shaped tapos scientifically it’s right kasi apat ang chambers ng puso. It’s a four-sided thing for the world: north, east, south, west. Simple lang siya, magiging kulay puti at gawa sa semento. It’s a meditative thing.” - Nesreen Cadar Abdulrauf, ICRD-PACS T he Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) supports the building of a Covenant Monument in the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Campus to symbolize the commitment of leaders and citizens to national unity, prosperity and peace. The state-run university and the Katipunan for the Establishment of the Rizal-Blumentritt Pamathalaan Academy, Inc. recently held a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to lead the project that is conceived by UP Professor Dr. Consolacion R. Alaras. DILG National Barangay Operations Office (NBOO) Director Leocadio T. Trovela and other government officials attended the said event to express support to the initiative. Trovela read the pledge of the Department, “Kami na bumubuo ng NBOO ng DILG na ang unang pinuno ay si Supremo Andres Bonifacio ay nakikiisa sa pambansang panata sa pagsasakatuparan ng ‘piso ni Rizal’ at ng katipunan sa pagbuo ng UP Covenant Monument.” “For its part in the project, NBOO will encourage barangays to voluntarily share an amount of around P50 or P100 for the construction of the Covenant Monument to have a sense of ownership and contribution to it,” he said. T he Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) supports the building of a Covenant Monument in the University of the
