  • James Dewitt Yancey Jay Dee/J. Dilla as he is affectionately called is a Grammy Award winning producer from Detroit who has worked with heavyweights The Roots, Common, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Notorious B.I.G., Janet Jackson, The Pharcyde, his founding group Slum Village and more.

    J Dilla achieved a genuine level of respect and greatness obtained by a select few - Legendary trackmasters DJ Premier (Jay Z to Christina Aguilera), DJ Pete Rock (Public Enemy to Kanye West) come to mind. Always creative and crafted without being overproduced or commercialized, his brand of soulful swing was unique and uncompromising. What started as a humble beginning in a Detroit basement has grown into a global movement, touching music-lovers from diverse cultural backgrounds.

    J Dilla had suffered for over three years with an incurable blood disease, and had also been diagnosed with lupus. He passed in February 2006 at the age of 32. His legend lives on and his musical influence still grows to this day.
