Child Abuse Prevention Month – Bulletin Announcements
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is most appropriate that Child Abuse Prevention
Month is held during the Easter season. There is no better time than Easter to celebrate the protection of
our most valuable gift from God – our children.
Prayer for Healing
Good and Gracious God,
Hear the humble prayer of your people
as we implore your mercy for the wrong that has been committed
and the harm that has been done.
Bring healing to all who have suffered abuse
and restore them to fullness of life.
Grant the spirit of repentance and penitence
to all who have broken sacred trust
and abused your beloved children.
Reconcile us to one another
and never allow us to be parted from you.
We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ,
your son, who has freed us from sin
and death, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Child Abuse Prevention Month
Reporting Abuse
If anyone has witnessed, or has reason to believe, or might suspect, there is or has been abuse
involving clergy, employees or volunteers at any of our Catholic schools, parish religious
education programs or other church-related events, those suspicions or allegations are to be
reported first to civil authorities (law enforcement, child protective services, or adult protective
services) and then to the Diocese via the toll-free line at 866-777-9133. You may also reach the
Pastoral Care Coordinator at 916-733-0142. Reports can be made in English and Spanish.
Child Abuse Prevention Month
Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People was established by the USCCB in
June 2002. It is a comprehensive set of procedures for addressing allegations of abuse of minors.
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People includes guidelines for
reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse.
The Charter calls for annual audits of diocese and eparchies to ascertain compliance with the
USCCB guidelines. The Diocese of Sacramento has been in compliance with all audit
requirements since 2003. Compliance is based upon inquiry, observation and review of
specifically requested documentation.

Child Abuse Prevention Month
Safe Environment Requirements
All clergy and employees and volunteers who have contact with minors are required to complete
safe environment requirements for the Diocese of Sacramento. The requirements include a
background check clearance through the Department of Justice for volunteers - clergy and
employees are cleared through the Department of Justice and FBI.
In addition to background checks, clergy, employees and volunteers are required to complete a
child abuse recognition and reporting program. The training is completed through Safe Haven
and has to be renewed every 3 years. Safe Haven is a 3 part video series, which identifies real-

life abuse and neglect situations that adults may encounter. The training addresses important
topics such as pornography, grooming techniques, social media interaction and boundary
violations.

Child Abuse Prevention Month
Safe Environment Training for Youth – Circle of Grace
Article 12 of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People calls for all dioceses
to maintain safe environment programs for youth. Through the Circle of Grace program, the
Diocese of Sacramento continues to fulfill this commitment. Circle of Grace serves the dual
purpose of educating and informing children about the value of positive relationships with God
and others. Children are taught to identify and maintain appropriate physical, emotional and
spiritual boundaries; recognize when boundary violations are about to occur; and demonstrate
how to take action when boundaries are threatened or violated.

Abril es el Mes Nacional para la Prevención del Abuso de Menores
Abril es el Mes Nacional para la Prevención del Abuso de Menores. Es adecuado que el mes de
Prevención para el Abuso de Menores sea durante el tiempo de Pascua. No hay una mejor temporada
que la Pascua para celebrar la protección de nuestro más valioso regalo de Dios, nuestros niños.
Una Oración de Sanación
Dios Bueno y Misericordioso,
Escucha la humilde oración de tu pueblo
implorando tu misericordia por el mal que
se ha cometido y el daño que se ha hecho.
Permite que sanen todos los que han sufrido
abusos y devuélvelos a la plenitud de la vida.
Concede el espíritu de arrepentimiento
y penitencia a todos los que han roto la
confianza sagrada y han abusado de tus
amados hijos.
Reconcílianos unos con otros y nunca
permitas que nos separemos de ti.

Reportar abusos
Si alguien ha presenciado, o tiene razones para creer, o sospecha, que hay o ha habido abuso que
involucra al clero, empleados o voluntarios en cualquiera de nuestras escuelas católicas, programas de
educación religiosa parroquial u otros eventos relacionados con la iglesia, esas sospechas o acusaciones
deben ser informadas primero a las autoridades civiles (cumplimiento de la ley, servicios de protección
infantil o servicios de protección de adultos) y luego a la Diócesis a través de la línea gratuita al
866-777-9133. También puede comunicarse con el Coordinador de Cuidado Pastoral al 916-733-0142.
Los informes se pueden hacer en inglés y español.

Carta para la protección de niños y jóvenes
La Carta para la Protección de Niños y Jóvenes fue establecida por la USCCB en junio de 2002. Es un

Protección de Niños y Jóvenes incluye pautas para la reconciliación, la curación, la responsabilidad y la

sociales y las violaciones de su espacio.

Mes de la Prevención del Abuso Infantil
Entrenamiento de Ambiente Seguro para Jóvenes - Círculo de Gracia
El artículo 12 de la Carta para la protección de niños y jóvenes exige que todas las diócesis mantengan
programas de ambiente seguro para los jóvenes. A través del programa Circulo de Gracia, la Diócesis de
Sacramento continúa cumpliendo con este compromiso. Circulo de Gracia tiene el doble propósito de
educar e informar a los niños sobre el valor de las relaciones positivas con Dios y con los demás. Se
enseña a los niños a identificar y mantener límites físicos, emocionales y espirituales apropiados;
reconocer cuándo están a punto de ocurrir las violaciones de limites; y demostrar cómo actuar cuando

April – National Child Abuse Prevention Month
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Every April, child and youth
serving organizations participate in Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is an
opportunity to highlight the ongoing importance of protecting minors.
The Diocese of Sacramento is committed to creating a safe environment for
children and young people:
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People was
established by the USCCB in June of 2002. It is a comprehensive set of
procedures for addressing allegations of abuse.
The Charter calls for annual audits of dioceses to ascertain compliance
with the Charter by the bishop and his diocese. Annual audits have
been conducted since 2003.
The Diocese of Sacramento has been in compliance with all audits since
2003.
For the 2017-2018 audit period, over 15,000 adults completed
background checks and safe environment training for the Diocese of
Sacramento.
For the 2017-2018 audit period, over 30,000 children were trained in
Circle of Grace. Through this program, children are taught to identify
and maintain appropriate physical, emotional and spiritual boundaries.

Abril - Mes Nacional de Prevención del Abuso Infantil
Abril es el Mes Nacional de Prevención del Abuso Infantil. Cada abril, las organizaciones que
brindan servicios a niños y jóvenes participan en el Mes de Prevención del Maltrato Infantil.
Es una oportunidad para resaltar la importancia actual de proteger a los menores.
La Diócesis de Sacramento esta comprometida a crear un ambiente seguro para niños y
jóvenes:
• La Carta para la Protección de Niños y Jóvenes fue establecida por la USCCB en junio de
2002. Es un conjunto completo de procedimientos para abordar las denuncias de abuso.
• La Carta llama a auditorías anuales de las diócesis para verificar el cumplimiento de la
Carta por parte del obispo y su diócesis. Se realizan auditorías anuales desde 2003.
• La Diócesis de Sacramento ha cumplido con todas las auditorías desde 2003.
• Para el período de auditoría 2017-2018, más de 15,000 adultos completaron
verificaciones de antecedentes y capacitación sobre el medio ambiente seguro para la
Diócesis de Sacramento.
• Para el período de auditoría 2017-2018, más de 30,000 niños fueron entrenados en
Circulo de Gracia. A través de este programa, se les enseña a los niños a identificar y
mantener límites físicos, emocionales y espirituales apropiados.

As we acknowledge National Child Abuse Prevention Month…we ask that our God of
endless love may grant us strength, courage and wisdom to protect all children from
abuse of any kind.
Week of April 6th and 7th
As we mark the 17th Anniversary of the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young
People”… we ask that we may all be firm in the promise to protect and help heal those
children wounded by abuse that they may find peace of body, mind and spirit. We pray to
the Lord.
Week of April 13th and 14th
We join Pope Francis in his prayer for victims of child abuse…we humbly ask for the
courage to acknowledge and repair past injustices, may God give us the strength to
remain faithful in the work of protecting those most vulnerable. We pray to the Lord.
Week of April 20st and 21st
For those who have been educated to protect our children and young people from sexual
abuse…may they have open hearts to always be guided by the hand of God. We pray to
the Lord.
Week of April 27th and 28th
For the Church… that we may dedicate ourselves to the care, nurture, and protection of
all God’s children. We pray to the Lord.

Abril 2019 - Peticiones para el mes de prevención del abuso infantil
En celebración del Mes Nacional de la Prevención del Abuso de Niños…. le pedimos a
nuestro Dios de amor infinito que nos conceda fuerza, valor y sabiduría para proteger a
todos los niños del abuso.
Semana de Abril 6 & 7
Al conmemorar el 17° Aniversario de los Estatutos para la Protección de Niños y Jóvenes…
pedimos que todos seamos firmes en la promesa de proteger y ayudar a sanar a los niños
heridos por el abuso para que puedan encontrar la paz de cuerpo, mente, y espíritu.
Oremos al Señor.
Semana de Abril 13 & 14
Nos unimos a Nuestro Santo Padre el Papa Francisco en su oración por las víctimas del
abuso de niños… pedimos humildemente por la valentía en reconocer y reparar las
injusticias del pasado, que Dios nos dé la fuerza para permanecer fieles en el trabajo de
proteger a los más vulnerables. Oremos al Señor.
Semana de Abril 20 & 21
Para aquellos que han sido educados para proteger a nuestros niños y Jóvenes del abuso
sexual… que tengan corazones abiertos para ser guiados siempre por la mano de Dios.

Prayers of the Faithful
We pray for the Holy Spirit to guide Church leaders as they promote justice and
healing for victims and survivors of abuse.
We pray for our Holy Father, that he may fulfill his role as good shepherd, and
protect the most vulnerable in his flock.
May all civic leaders act in ways that show their commitment to the protection ofall, especially children and young people.
May all who work with children and young people be vigilant in protecting them
from harm.
We pray that all families strive to provide safe and nurturing environments for
children and young people.
May those who have been abused experience Christ’s profound love for them
and God’s healing grace.
May God the Merciful Father bring comfort and healing to victims and survivorsof sexual abuse within the Church.
We pray that all who provide help for the abused may act with wisdom and
compassion in their healing ministries.
We pray that God may grant those affected by abuse in anyway the courage to tell
their story and seek healing.
May all priests and religious, through their teaching and witness, lead children
and young people to holiness.
We pray that the bishops continue to carry out their promise to protect, and
pledge to heal, the most vulnerable in their dioceses.
We pray that all parish communities affected by abuse find healing and
