DIPLOMA IN RADIOGRAPHY Overview This is a comprehensive three years (six semesters) diploma program, which provides its students with a high quality theoretical and clinical based education. The education provided prepares the students for the entry-level job market in diagnostic radiology, allows them to transfer to other colleges, prepares advanced students for sub specialty areas, as well as instilling lifelong learning values, and assists them in achieving their professional and personal goals. Benefits At the end of the program, the graduates will be able to: Practise in accordance with current legislation governing the use of ionising and non- ionising radiation for medical purposes. Provide a safe and holistic general healthcare to individual, family and the community using an established radiography protocols with non-discriminatory manner. Advise other healthcare professionals about the relevance and application of imaging modalities to the service user’s needs. Contribute effectively to work undertaken as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Initiate resolution of problems and be able to exercise personal initiative. Inculcate management skills in the planning and implementation of healthcare services. Use the knowledge and skills learnt as a foundation to enhance skills and requirements towards lifelong learning. Career A radiographer is a member of the health care team who is responsible of the production of medical images of human organs for the purpose of diagnosis and therapy. A diagnostic radiographer is responsible for the production of diagnostic imaging on patients referred for specific investigations. The rapid development of imaging technology warrants a qualified diagnostic radiographer to be skilful and competent, both in basic and specialized diagnostic radiographic procedures. Imaging modalities handled by radiographers include general radiography, CT scan, angiography, fluoroscopy, MRI and ultrasound. Programme structure This is a three years full-time course. Course contents is divided almost equally between academic and clinical components. The academic component shall include lectures, tutorials, seminars and demonstrations sessions. The clinical components includes practicum clinical. Clinical placements are mainly in the Department of Bio-Medical Imaging, University Malaya Medical Centre plus various hospital around klang valley. Credit System and Values Credit requirement for the award of the Diploma = 95 credits CGPA requirement for the award of the Diploma = Above 2.0

Clinical Practice Assessment.

Clinical practice will be assessed formatively and summatively. The formative element will enable problems to be identified and rectified at an early stage, and will enable the student to build confidence within a safe learning environment.

Formative assessment:

i. Completion of a record of clinical practice which will be periodically reviewed. ii. Evaluation of professional attitude and behaviour. iii. Presentation of Case study.

Summative assessment:

i. Clinical Practice Record.1000 examinations must be collected and certified by the clinical supervisors or tutors. Of these, a minimum of 500 examinations must have been completed without assistance from the supervisor or tutor.

ii. 7 clinical assessments and 8 lab assessments will be carried out over the whole program at pre-determined stages. The assessments will be marked according to a prepared checklists.

Entry requirements

Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with : Credit in Bahasa Melayu (including pass in oral test)  

Credit in English, Mathematic & Sciences. Preference will be given to candidates from Pure

Sciences Streams & obtain credit in Physics & Biology Must be at least 18 years old on the date of application.
