What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology means ‘the study of movement’ and is a form of therapy that uses muscle monitoring (biofeedback) to look at what may be causing ‘imbalances’ in the body and attempts to relieve these imbalances. Kinesiology is a holistic approach to long-lasting health and vitality, with results that can be felt immediately.
It melds ancient eastern energetic healing arts with western physiological healing sciences to address a wide-range of physical, emotional, mental, nutritional and spiritual issues.
The kinesiology approach examines ‘unresolved stress reactions’ in a person and provides techniques intended to help the body’s natural healing process. Some of the techniques available to Kinesiologists include:
• acupressure • lymphatic massage• hypertonic muscle release • attention to reflex, trigger and body points• nutritional advice • remedies, such as flower essences and homeopathics
The Diploma of Kinesiology at IKON
The Diploma of Kinesiology will give you the opportunity to gain skills and work with clients to gain a greater understanding of what their body is trying to tell us.
This course is particularly relevant for people that want to work in health fields where an integrated mind body medicine approach is useful – such as working with people with long term chronic conditions, structural and pain related conditions, life change and psychological states, and children and adults to improve learning.
The training explores the relationship between the mind and the body simultaneously, addressing issues deep within the mind through counselling and releasing them through the body using techniques such as acupressure, energetic medicine, neuro lymphates and more.
You will also learn to assess and interact with the client in a profound way – finding and working on these root drivers that ultimately determine our behaviour, lifestyle and health.

Course Name: Kinesiology
Qualification: Diploma of
Kinesiology (HLT52415)
Study Location: SA, QLD, WA
Course Duration: 13 months
Introduction to Kinesiology
This fascinating subject opens the student’s eyes to the effectiveness and uniqueness of muscle monitoring. Originating from chiropractic, muscle monitoring allows the practitioner to find both conscious and subconscious information that is preventing the client from dissolving stress on many levels.
This subject looks at the relationship between muscles and meridians as established by Applied Kinesiology, as well as the Holistic Kinesiology relationships based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Huge emphasis is placed on professional muscle monitoring techniques. The subject also explores the 5-element psychology and begins to introduce ways of balancing the client to reduce stress.
Some of the techniques include the use of Acupressure, Yuan, Mu, Neurovascular, Neurolymphatic points and 5-elements colour and sound. It is the first subject taught and mastering of even basic techniques can have a huge effect on improving the state of the
client.
Counselling Skills in Action
This subject introduces the importance of counselling, especially the Rogerian client-centred model. This subject looks at how to create a safe environment for the clinical encounter and the value of building trust and rapport with clients is accentuated. The subject allows the students to gain communication skills to enhance their ability to listen, facilitate and guide clients.
There are several key tools and techniques covered in this subject, including client centred counselling, focusing and felt sense techniques. Students also explore the heroic journey, which
allows them to better understand human suffering.
MODULE 1
Acupuncture Systems
This fascinating subject has two main topics. The first explores Traditional Chinese Medicine’s acupuncture system, a fascinating system with more than 4000 years of clinical practice. The subject covers all of the channel pathways and has detailed information on all 361 acupuncture points.
Emphasis is placed on understanding why points have specific effects, particularly by learning in detail the internal pathways of the channel system (where channels connect with the organs and muscles). The subject also looks at the importance of balancing the 3 main energy centres of the body and use of open point theory.
The second topic emphasizes the importance of practitioner development. Included is a 3 day camp where students are taken through numerous techniques to learn stillness of the mind, meditation, 5 element tai-qi, internal Kung-Fu, self trust and much more. The internal state the practitioner can cultivate within themselves has a major impact on their work with clients – this subject is a must in any complementary training.
Energetic Medicine
This subject will appeal to anyone that wants to learn about vibrational therapies and how the energetic system works and influences our wellbeing. The subject looks at vibrational therapies like essences, sound, use of crystals, colour and more. The Chakra system, and its relationship to the glands and hormones of our body, is emphasised.
Students learn to navigate a client’s attitude, thoughts and feelings and their influence on wellness. They are given techniques to assist clients in changing them, and in the process improve their wellbeing.
Neurological Approach
This subject enables students to help clients with learning difficulties and a wide range of neurological conditions. It includes the Traditional Chinese approach using acupuncture points to bring about improvements in brain function, memory, senses integration, balance, speech, reading and more.
It provides the keys for tackling the Social Nervous system - a very hot topic in neurology research in the last decade. The Social Nervous System has impacts on relationships, learning, hearing, expression, self-soothing and long-term health. This subject also looks at Primitive and Postural reflexes.
The students are taught a full primitive and postural reflex assessment and many techniques that can assist with the integration of those reflexes. Anyone wanting to address peak performance, learning difficulties and other neurological conditions needs to know about
these reflexes.
Dynamic Structure
This is the first of our subjects aimed at helping clients with pain and poor posture. Students learn orthopedic assessment, and how to address neck and pelvic problems. This is an extremely useful subject, enabling students to help clients with headaches, neck tension, pain and poor posture.
MODULE 2
MODULE 3
MODULE 4
MODULE 5
MODULE 6
Nutrition and Structure
Nutrition and diet is the foundation of the body’s biochemistry. This subject enables students to understand and read hair tissue analysis, live blood analysis and pH analysis. They learn to apply methods for improving a broad range of digestive issues using Western and Chinese Medicine.
The subject includes balances that address toxicity and food intolerances that are so common today. The structural component looks at the key areas of the cranium, jaw and the fascial trains that link different areas of the body.
At the completion of the unit students have a complete integrative
approach to improving posture, pain and structural problems.

Clinical Conditions and Clinic
The clinical conditions subject applies Holistic Kinesiology to common conditions that clients have. It integrates the many different approaches and gives the practitioner an integrative way of working with common issues like pain, headaches, sleep problems, fatigue, relationships and addictions.
Although Student Clinic starts much earlier in the course there are several student Clinic days included towards the end of the course so students can practice working on clients after they have learned most or all of the Diploma material.
Cases are analysed in class and detailed feedback is provided. Student Clinic is a critical aspect of becoming a confident practitioner, where students learn to professionally analyse
and summarise cases.
MODULE 8
Graduate Opportunities
This qualification will give you a powerful range of tools to understand both the mind and the body, helping you to learn about your own inner balance, as well as being able to nurture the balance of others.
Graduates are enabled to integrate all this knowledge and skill and work with people with, long term chronic conditions, structural and pain related conditions, life change, psychological states and learning difficulties.
Graduates may choose to work independently or together with other medical practitioners in integrative clinics.
Many graduates go on to focus their practice in specific areas such as fertility enhancement, recovery from traumatic events, depression, back pain, and performance enhancement.
HELP CLIENTS TO EMBRACE LIFE AND ACHIEVE WELLBEING!Kinesiology complements other forms of medicine and provides distinct advantages when tackling many of the chronic conditions that are so prevalent today.
Play a leading role in helping people feel self-empowered in regards to their health and emotional wellbeing in this rapidly growing area of medicine.
Study a Diploma of Kinesiology and gain the skills needed to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health through an understanding of the relationship between the mind and the body in influencing physical health.
Diversify your skills and play a leading role in helping people feel self-empowered in regards to their health and emotional wellbeing.
“ It is an incredible advantage to be able to address the body when working on psychological conditions. The use of the body helps the client connect emotionally – providing insight into their own personal resources quickly and effectively. Working with the mind helps body health, as the mind is beneath many of the stress patterns leading to illness.” Rona, Head of School.
