Story from a Kansas State Highway Patrol officer:I made a traffic stop on an elderly lady the other day for speeding on U.S. 166 Eastbound at Mile Marker 73 just East of Sedan, KS. I asked for her dr iver ' s license, registration, and

proof of insurance. The lady took out the required information and handed it to me.In with the cards I was somewhat surprised (due to her advanced age) to see she had a conceal carry permit. I looked at her and ask if she

h a d a w e a p o n i n h e r possession at this time. She responded that she indeed had a .45 automatic in her glove box.S o m e t h i n g - - - b o d y language, or the way she said it---made me want to ask if she had any other firearms. She did admit to also having a 9mm Glock in her center console. Now I had to ask one moretime if that was all.She responded once again that she did have just one more, a .38 special in her purse. I then asked her what was she so afraid of.She looked me right in the eye and said, "Not a darn thing!"

Quotes made by famous people wi thout much thought...On September 17, 1994, A l a b a m a ' s H e a t h e r Whitestone was selected as Miss America 1995. Here's her answer to her question...Question: If you could live forever, would you and why?Answer: "I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever." -- Heather Whitestone"Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death and stuff." -- Mariah Carey"Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life." -- Brooke Shields, during an interview to become

Spokesperson for federal anti-smoking campaign."Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country." -- Mayor Marion Barry, Washington, DC.

"I'm not going to have some reporters pawing through our papers. We are the p r e s i d e n t . " - - H i l l a r y Clinton commenting on the release of subpoenaed documents.

"That lowdown scoundrel deserves to be kicked to death by a jackass, and I'm just the one to do it." -- A congressional candidate in Texas.

A Distinctive Sense of Style

ARE THEY REALLY? OR DO THEY JUST REALLY WANT TO BE? In 1974, a new term was being tossed around in regard to flexibility. Girls who could tumble with ease seemed to posses this mysterious factor. The term? Double jointed.

I consulted Wikipedia about it. Here is what it says: “ d o u b l e - j o i n t e d n e s s , describes joints that stretch f u r t h e r t h a n n o r m a l (allowing people to) perform contortionist "tricks".At the Girls Club gymnastics classes, this special gift happened naturally for

several girls. For me - not so much. So I worked to make my arms look like theirs. And eventually, my left elbow did indeed twist a r o u n d f u r t h e r t h a t i t natura l ly should have . Despite this, my tumbling skills remained static. Try as I might, I just wasn’t double-j o i n t e d , d e s p i t e t h e appearance I’d created. Today, we are being told that there are far more sexes than just male and female. So it makes me wonder. Is that really true? Or are some people just working really hard to create a fact based on a wish. There is no question that gender fluidity is a trendy new topic. You need go no further than social media to find a person who claims to actually be both genders, depending on the day, or hour, or circumstance, or feeling. This has gotten totally out of control . Scienti f ical ly speaking, some babies are indeed born with incorrect or incomplete genitalia/sex organs or with both male and female markers. That’s what being transgender is. But this is very rare, accounting for 1-2% of all births. And even those cases often self-correct, with adolescent hormones paving the way to one gender or another. The concept of transsexual, or choosing to be what you aren’t, is not in nature but created by our culture.Movements galore insist that we create new pronouns and m a k e s p e c i a l accommodations for all the people who just can’t decide what they are on any given day. At some universities not only is it unacceptable but also offensive, to use “him” or “her”. A professor in Toronto refused to use newfangled pronouns like zir, yo and xie and was lambasted as trans-phobic and hateful. Recently, Facebook quietly introduced dozens of options for users to identify their gender - and although the social media giant said it would not be releasing a comprehensive list, ABC News found 58 so fa r. Previously, users had to identify themselves as male or female. They were also given the option of keeping their gender private. User's can now select a "custom" gender option. What is the purpose of this other than to twist typical male/female roles into more obscurity and confusion? Some parents are even sending kids barely out of the toddler phase to Gender C l i n i c s . N e w s f l a s h : sometimes little boys want to wear lipstick and they don’t

turn out to be women. Lots of little girls want to dress like their favorite NBA player but ultimately grow into pretty typical young ladies. Some kids even SAY they want to be the opposite gender. Kids do that stuff! Bottom line is that statistics show and science concurs that there just aren’t that many people who truly are biologically affected by gene abnormalities. There is no need to completely disrupt our language to pacify those demanding it. I wanted to be like those girls who could bend and twist and flip with ease. So I forced my body to take on their physical characteristic. But I wasn’t designed to be a great gymnast. Just as dressing like a man doesn’t mean a woman was meant to be a man.For all the people who are biologically male or female, but just don’t want to go along with that, just pick a side. No a m o u n t o f w h i n i n g o r demanding or cross-dressing w i l l t r u l y m a k e y o u transgender. Only nature can do that.

Medicare and Medicaid were formed to save lives not to take lives, if abortion is costing so much for this service then stop using it, let the w o m e n p a y f o r i t themselves. The elderly and the sick need Medicare and Medicaid, our leaders send millions of dollars to other countries for the poor, they should take care of the poor in our country before sending one penny to other countries. Read Lazarus and the rich man,it is a warning, do you really want the same ending for your life? The rich never have enough and are always seeking more. We are talking about need not want. There are lots of way sto keep from getting pregnant. Our govenment has caused a problem for years, woman that have more and more babies for more welfare and food stamps need to be fixed s o t h e y c a n n o t h a v e anymore children that they cannot take care of.

I have found an issue with

Carl Albert, and no lights. I was on sixth street heading north around nine o'clock pm, and my light turned green so I could go across and 7, I counted them seven four going east and three going west never slowed down and went right on through that light. I hadto sit there and wait my turn to go on my green light. People are saying it is going to take someone getting killed for them to see the issue here.It will be someone special die before we get this fixed. I am so ashamed and I have lived here 23 years.

Where are our elected representatives in OKC, the one's that oversee the safety of the people of a city. Never hear from them. Right now the way they have it set up, the trucks go through town at 35 miles and hour. Big trucks have no stop lights to stop for, and it will be katy bar the door. What is the stopping distance of an 18 w h e e l e r a t 3 5 m p h i f someone is walking out of the courthouse and across the street. What about the safety of the pedestrians, there are no longer lights to protect them? The men that came down and took the survey are the one's that will be responsible.

Well I hear we have a new

barber in town charging $15 for a hair cut that was once $12. Well, I have a bit of information for you. Go to the storeand buy a barber kit and have your wife trim your hair and if you have boys

have her trim their hair. You will save forty five dollars a month. A hair cut for $15 for a five minute trim? That in my opinion is ridiculous.

To e v e r y o n e w h o i s complaining about barriers on Carl Albert parkway, if you want to voice your opinions, then come to one of the council meetings and meet the mayor and city council members, if not forget it, and quit sounding off.

People are going nuts. They cannot seems to get past the election and move forward. It is time that WE ALL as American’s work together! We a r e o n l y h u r t i n g ourselves by staying divided and fighting all the time. Please rethink the hate and

anger and rethink positive for the future of this country.

The nation is facing a crisis, an unseen crisis that in time will bring us down all together. It is called internet & social media. We are becoming a nation of people that are too lazy to get out and shop because it can be done with a click of a finger. Here ’s the deal , smal l business is the gear that keeps the engine moving, without small business you will see small hometowns dry up. Take a drive to a small community, take the time to see what the local stores have to offer, you will be amazed at what you may find and will also enjoy one o n o n e p e r s o n a l experiences, which is a vital part of small town America.

IEA: U.S. has unique role in oil, LNGThe United States in April became a net exporter of natural gas for the first time, though the IEA cautioned some new customers may be short-term opportunists.The United States stands in a unique position in the energy market with a robust s h a l e o i l s e c t o r a n d prospects for liquefied natural gas, the IEA said.Fatih Birol, the head of the I n t e r n a t i o n a l E n e r g y Agency, met in Washington with U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry to discuss global o i l a n d g a s m a r k e t developments. According to

the IEA, spending on shale o i l e x p l o r a t i o n a n d production is on pace to grow by more than 50 percent this year, while U.S. natural gas will account for 40 percent of new global production in the next five years."The United States stands today at the heart of a twin energy revolution - - a booming shale oil and gas industry and also rising supplies of liquefied natural g a s , " B i r o l s a i d i n a statement.In the last seven years, nearly $1 trillion in capital

h a s g o n e t o w a r d exploration and production in the United States, even with the revenue stream drying up during last year's market decline. Another $200 billion went toward the midstream, or pipeline, sector in the United States since 2010.For gas, the IEA said it expected some of the shale basins like the central Marcellus basin will see production gains even during a weakened market because producers are becoming more efficient. Within five years, that could translate to a Top 5 spot for the United States in terms of exports in the form of liquefied natural gas.For oil, the United States is on pace to average 9.3 million barrels per day this year and 9.9 million barrels per day in 2018. If the 2018 forecast is reached, the United States will break a production record set in 1970.U.S. President Donald Trump has put oil and natural gas at the forefront of his national energy

strategy. Perry said the b r o a d - b a s e d N o r t h American energy strategy would ensure "security, stability, and economic growth" for the region.Trump has put fossil fuels ahead of renewable energy, though Perry's department last week steered $46.2 million toward the SunShot initiative, a program left over from the previous administration that aims to make solar power more competitive.U.S. crude oil is competitive o n t h e g l o b a l m a r ke t b e c a u s e We s t Te x a s Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark for the price of oil, is trading $3 less per barrel than the global benchmark Brent and about $1 per barrel less than a Middle East benchmark, Dubai. In April, the United States became a net exporter

of natural gas for the first time.A special permit is needed to send LNG to countries that don't have a free trade deal with the United States, which could be problematic

for a Trump administration wary of such agreements. Birol added that some new LNG customers might not be long-term customers because of global prices and market competition.

USDA Announces Farm to School Grant Awards; Projects Nationwide Chosen

The U.S. Department of A g r i c u l t u r e t o d a y announced the projects selected to receive the USDA’s annual farm to school grants designed to increase the amount of local foods served in schools. Sixty-five projects were chosen nationwide.“Increasing the amount of local foods in America’s schools is a win-win for everyone,” said Cindy Long, Deputy Administrator for Child Nutrition Programs at USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service, which administers the Department’s school meals programs. “Farm to school pro jec ts fos te r healthy eating habits among A m e r i c a ’ s s c h o o l - a g e c h i l d r e n , a n d l o c a l economies are nourished, as well, when schools buy the food they provide from local producers.”According to the 2015 USDA Farm to School Census, schools with strong farm to school programs report higher school meal participation, reduced food w a s t e , a n d i n c r e a s e d willingness of the students to try new foods, such as fruits and vegetables. In addition, in school year 2013-2014 alone, schools purchased more than $789 million in local food from f a r m e r s , r a n c h e r s , f i s h e r m e n , a n d f o o d p r o c e s s o r s a n d manufacturers. Nearly half ( 4 7 p e r c e n t ) o f t h e s e districts plan to purchase even more local foods in future school years.Grants range from $14,500 to $100,000, awarding a to ta l o f $5 mi l l ion to schools, state agencies,

tribal groups, and nonprofit organizations for farm to s c h o o l p l a n n i n g , i m p l e m e n t a t i o n , o r training. Projects selected a r e l oca t ed in u rban , suburban and rural areas in 42 states and Puerto Rico, and they are estimated to serve more than 5,500 schools and 2 mil l ion students. This money will support a wide range of activities from training, planning, and developing partnerships to creating new menu items, establishing supply chains for local foods, offering taste tests to children, buying equipment, planting school gardens and organizing field t r i p s t o a g r i c u l t u r a l operations, Long said. Remember to stay hydrated in the summerWhile it is important to stay hydrated year-round, it can be more of a challenge during the steamy summer months. Thankfully, there

are plenty of ways to beat the heat by balancing fluid intake with what is lost through the course of the daily living.

“Most people know we lose fluid through perspiration, but we also lose it through breathing, going to the bathroom and other bodily functions,” said Janice Hermann, Oklahoma State University Cooperative E x t e n s i o n n u t r i t i o n specialist. However, our bodies need fluid in order to perform many important functions, so the goal is to balance the amount of fluid we’re taking in against what we’re losing.Because fluid needs vary depending on diet, physical activity, outside temperature and humidity, it is hard to p i n d o w n a n e x a c t recommendation on how much fluid a person should try to consume each day. H o w e v e r , a c o m m o n recommendation is to drink 6 to 8 cups of fluid each day in addition to what comes from solid foods. But, the fluid of choice does not always have to be water. Drinking plain water is great, but milk and 100 percent fruit juices will work. Soups, as well as ‘watery’ fruits and vegetables such as lettuce, w a t e r m e l o n , b r o c c o l i , carrots and apples are solid sources of fluid as well.

Tea, coffee, soda and other caffeinated beverages can count toward meeting daily fluid intake needs, but the amount of caffeine should be limited to 300 milligrams or less per day. An 8-ounce cup of drip-brewed coffee typically contains 85 mg, while an 8-ounce cup of tea or a 12-ounce serving of a soft drink contains 40 mg. One rule of thumb to follow is to pick fluids you like,” Hermann said. “If you don’t like water, maybe drink milk or 100 percent juice, but remember most beverages, other than water, have calories.Regardless of the fluid of c h o i c e , l o o k f o r opportunities to get it in throughout the day. For instance, stash water in the car or keep your favorite beverage nearby while at your desk. To stay hydrated during exercise, spread fluid intake throughout the workout by drinking before, during and after physical activity. If it is hot, humid or an extended exercise session, more fluid may be needed. Although thirst is frequently the first sign of dehydration, other symptoms include dry mouth, headache, weakness, d i z z i n e s s , c o n f u s i o n , sluggishness, fainting and

muscle cramps.

Keep a Close Watch for Fall Armyworms

The fall armyworm is a tropical insect that overwinters only in the warmest areas of the United States. As populations build throughout the summer, they move northward on weather fronts, often arriving in Oklahoma in late summer. Because several generations develop during the summer, the generations overlap a n d e f f e c t i v e l y c r e a t e a continuous supply of moths (and eggs). Any fall planted wheat field, p a s t u r e a n d y e s , e v e n established lawns can become

targets of this feeding insect.Fall armyworm infestations often go unnoticed for a while because they don’t cause obvious damage until they get bigger. To indicate the stage of growth that a caterpillar is in, we refer to them as instars. The first instar is the caterpillar just after it hatches. A second instar is the caterpillar after it has shed its skin for the first time. The caterpillar will normally shed its skin five times before it quits feeding. A sixth instar has shed its skin five times and will feed, bury itself in the soil and

pupate. If you were to ration out a supply of food to feed each instar, you would need to reserve 70% of the total supply just to feed a sixth instar caterpillar. It is similar to trying to feed a hungry teenager. Like a teenager, a sixth instar armyworm can eat lots of food in a relatively short time.Army worms are best controlled before they reach the sixth instar. The key is to recognize signs of feeding done by the smaller instars. During the first three instars, the caterpillar does not

remove much plant tissue. It will scrape off the epidermis of the leaf, leaving a clear, papery membrane that you can see through. This type of feeding is called “windowpaning”. When “windowpaning” is detected, control measures need to begin.S e v e r a l i n s e c t i c i d e s a r e registered for control of fall armyworms:In Wheat fields: Lorsban SG, Warrior T, and Parathion(methyl or ethyl)In Pastures: Sevin, Malathion, Confirm 2F, Lambda-CyhalothrinI n h o m e L a w n s : B a c i l l u s thuringiensis (Javelin), Sevin or
