Disaster Communications Service San Dimas & Walnut / Diamond Bar Stations Copyright © 2011 Los Angeles County Disaster Communications Service We have the unique situation that we support 2 stations, San Dimas & Walnut / Diamond Bar. Originally DCS was assigned to the old San Dimas Station and then were reassigned to the Walnut / San Dimas Station in 1987. When Walnut / San Dimas Station opened, San Dimas Station was downgraded to a sub station. In 2000, Sheriff Baca decided to upgrade the San Dimas Station to a full service station again. At that point in time, the Walnut / San Dimas Station was renamed as the Walnut / Diamond Bar Station. It was a natural fit for our DCS team to support both stations. In 2006, the current San Dimas Station opened which included a dedicated DCS radio room to compliment the one that we already have at the Walnut Station.

On to the DCS communications van affectionately known as 80-Henry. Our DCS team was assigned this 2001 Ford E-350 van by Fleet Services in December 2006 as a replacement to our original DCS communications vehicle, which was known as 290-Henry, which was retired by Fleet due to parts availability and emissions issues.

Other DCS teams that have communications vehicles assigned are Industry Station (14) and Lost Hills Station (22).

We started with a clean slate which enabled us to take a fresh look at how to setup the equipment and make improvements along the way. We started by evaluating our needs and goals, solicited donations where needed and installing the equipment. We got much needed support from the San Dimas and Walnut / Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Boosters Clubs. This is still an ongoing project and we are still adding equipment as needs and/or funds allow.
