SCHOOL PROFILEPASCAL Primary Schools pledge to lay the foundations for all pupils to become responsible global citizens of the future with a forward-looking, committed and responsible vision for providing the highest standards of educational achievement in an environment which is rich in facilities and educational opportunities.

Our schools offer a safe, happy and friendly atmosphere where management, teachers and parents/guardians work together in a spirit of cooperation.

Priority places at our Secondary Schools are offered to all our Primary School children ensuring a smooth transition from Primary to Secondary School.

Our Primary year groups consist of classes that do not exceed 24 children and include:

• Reception Class (Pre-Primary) 4 years and 8 months – 5 years and 7 months

• PY1 (Primary Year One) to PY6 (Primary Year Six)

It is our firm belief that what matters in any school is strong leadership and well-qualified, committed teachers with high expectations.

Therefore, our recruitment process is highly selective, ensuring that we secure the best leaders, teachers and learning support assistants.

SCHOOL CURRICULUMOur main aim is for all children, including those for whom English is an additional language, to enjoy a well-balanced curriculum which will develop their enquiring minds and talents.

We follow a combination of the new revised British National Curriculum and the Cambridge Primary programme which provide for a challenging course of study; setting the highest standards.

The Cambridge Primary programme combines a world class curriculum and integrated assessment. Pupils with advanced Greek language knowledge follow the Greek Language programme as outlined by the Cyprus National Curriculum; ensuring that they are bilingual learners of Greek and English.

RECEPTION CLASS (PRE-PRIMARY)The children in Reception follow the “Early Years’ Foundation” stage of the British National Curriculum and work towards the Early Learning Goals through a structured programme of rich learning experiences, developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that prepares them for Primary Year 1.

PRIMARY YEARS 1-6 (PY1 - PY6)PY1 - PY6 follow a combination of the British National Curriculum and Cambridge Primary programme in the core subjects of mathemat-ics, English and science. Pupils also study Greek according to the standards set by the Cyprus Ministry of Education. The foundation subjects offered to pupils include geography, history, environmental studies, art and design, music, physical education, design and technology / home economics, ICT and world religions. ICT is incorporated across the curriculum and pupils develop wide-ranging computer skills.

Our curriculum is also enriched whenever possible by providing real-life and concrete experiences for pupils, which are creatively planned, vibrant and exciting. Some of the foundation subjects also incorporate the richhistory and geography of Cyprus. Children with little or no English are given additional support through intensive English lessons, thus enabling them to access the curriculum as soon as possible.

Children with little or no Greek are taught Greek as a second language (GSL). At PASCAL Primary School we celebrate the fact that all pupils will be learning Greek.

ASSESSMENT Assessment is an essential part of any sound evaluation process that helps every pupil to identify areas for development and chart his/her progress. This also helps the school strengthen learning across the curriculum.

Our aim is to facilitate achievable but challenging targets for every child so that personal goals can be set and worked towards.

HOMEWORK All pupils are given work to do at home in order to practise aspects of their learning.

The amount of homework assigned inevitably increases each year as homework makes a significant contribution to the pupils’ progress and the consolidation of material.

Homework support is also made available at the end of every day for those who require it.

SPORT PASCAL Primary School offers education that develops intellectually as well as physically active and creative young individuals. Special attention is given to sports, team and individual games.

All PASCAL schools offer the necessary facilities for a wide range of activities both during the regular morning physical education subject as well as after school.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Children are offered the opportunity to take part in an extra-curricular programme after the school day ends. On an optional basis, all pupils have a chance to get involved in sport, social or artistic activities. Supervision is available for children until 4 p.m. each day.

HOME-SCHOOL LINKSPASCAL Education places great importance on the relationship between parents/guardians and the school, believing that children learn best when families and school work together. Parents/guardians are kept informed through-out the school year regarding the academic curriculum and progress of pupils providing opportunities for close home/school liaison.

The Head Teacher is available on an ‘open door’ basis whenever possible and informative news-letters, emails and mobile telephone texts are sent out to parents on a regular basis. Pupils have a home/school planner where messages from home and school are noted.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOURPASCAL Primary Schools provide a caring environment where individuality is celebrated and everyone is respected. By the use of positive reinforcement and good management we have established a whole school approach which helps pupils to feel positive and confident about themselves, their abilities, achievements and their power of decision making.

UNIFORMPupils are required to wear the school uniform as well as to be groomed and dressed appropriately for school. A child’s dress and/or appearance supports, not disrupts, the learning environment therefore, the appearance of each pupil needs to reflect practices of good hygiene and cleanliness.

SAFEGUARDINGPupils feel safe and secure in our Primary Schools and staff have each pupil’s well- being as their highest priority. Our safeguarding arrangements are very secure, continually revised and regularly updated.

HEALTHY EATING All PASCAL Primary School canteens providenutritious snacks and hot lunches for the children.

BUS SERVICEA local bus company provides transportationto and from the School with a supervisor who ensures the safety of all children.
