Design• Sectors alone

– ProE model has been checked into the LBNL drawing system.– “Flat” drawings have been/are being put into EDMS– Tooling drawings to be done in ProE and handled similarly– No major changes in design(except see below) but many minor changes

as all dimensions, tolerances, etc are checked– Sector-section of Local Supports Requirements document updated.

• Disk model– Previous layout had disk support ring of 1st disk(one closest to IP)

reversed to provide more room for barrel services. This caused sectors for Disk 1’s to be different than sectors for Disk 2 and 3.

– Decided to make all the same - reverse all disks => all sectors identical– Added benefit is that disk support ring can now be used for strain relief

of tubes and pigtails using glued-on features on the disk support ring.– Disk model updated with latest design from Hytec but not yet checked

into LBNL drawing system or into EDMS. This should be done shortly.

Sector Model

Tube extendedto pass over disksupport ring

All disks will nowbe like this

Frame Model• Frame model has been updated to new envelopes and revised disks.• Next step is cone/barrel interface and also length.

Prototypes• Little new

• One sector is slowly being irradiated at LLNL source

• TV holography system commissioned at LBL– First sector measurements made and look OK(well within spec)

– TVH system returned to Hytec for upgrade to in-plane measurements. Back in March.

• Materials on hand for building three more prototypes to current design dimensions. – One will use CGL to bond to Al tube.

– Two will use AIT EG7658, a rigid bonding.

– Current baseline with CGL has passed all tests and meets all requirements so far…but clearly a rigid bond is more comforting.

• Will start about now tests exposing sector(actually piece already irradiated to 50 Mrad) to C3F8 vapor to begin test of possible effects in case of maximum leak rate.

Production

• Aluminum tubes ordered. Minimum order will cover full production. Delivery by mid-June.

• Carbon-carbon plates for sectors and disk ring facings ordered. Also production order(20 plates). Delivery by early June…but have some concerns related to power crisis in California (furnace time)..

• Other materials(foam, cyanate ester, etc) have much shorter lead times, will order in coming months.

• Detailed production schedule. Will begin to measure progress vs plan in formal way(monthly status, % complete, etc) in April.

Frame Drilling• Have started tooling for drilling precise holes in frame to locate

disk mounts.

• Will try on prototype frame.

• Tooling under fabrication(http://www-atlas.lbl.gov/~goozen/supportframe.html)
