One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a

place where children and parents could have fun

together. The more Walt dreamed of a "magical park," the

more imaginative and elaborate it became.

Original plans for the park were on a plot of land nearWalt Disneys Burbank Studio, but after consultation it

was decided that this plot was far to small for what Walt

had envisioned.

Construction for Disneyland California began on July 21,

1954, Only 12 months before the park was scheduled toopen.

Disneyland Park was opened to the public on July 18,

1955 and had cost Disney $17,000,000.Opening day was a disaster, with an overwhelming heatwave causing many problems, this disastrous openingnearly killed off the park.

Fortunately the park picked up and by 1965 the park hadhad over 50 million guests through its gates.

alt Disneys Death

Walt Disney died of lung cancer on December 15th,

1966.

Roy Oliver Disney, younger brother of Walt who had cofounded the Walt Disney Company became chairman

of the company after Walts Death.

During the time of Walts Death him and his

brother were planning the construction of a

second park located in Orlando Florida.

Walt had learned many lessons from his first

project in California. He wanted a larger area to

work with and wanted to create a bigger buffer

from reality around the park so that people felt

totally wrapped up in the imaginary world he had

created.

Unfortunately he did not get to see his new vision

realised. His brother Roy postponed his

retirement in order to over see the first phase of

construction of the new park.

The park opened on October 1st 1971

the name Disneyland. The same basic show has since appeared on several

networks under a variety of titles. The show, under its various names, reputedly

holds the record as the longest showing prime-time program on American

television.

The Mickey Mouse Club is a long-running American variety television show that began in 1955, producedby Walt Disney Productions and televised by the ABC, featuring a regular but ever-changing cast ofteenage performers. The Mickey Mouse Club was created by Walt Disney. The series has been revived,reformatted and re-imagined several times since its initial 19551959 run on ABC. The Micky Mouse Clubwas responsible for such talent as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
