Gen. Otto F. Marshall (1791-1891) Otto F. Marshall was born in Ziesar, Prussia, Germany to Francis D. E.
Marshall(1732-1812) and unknown mother. He married Dolly Neally (1789-1858) and had five children:
Eliza Ann(1814-1871) married Martin H. Rose (1796-1869)
Sarah D. (1819-1893) married William A. Wallace (1814-1883)
Frederick N. (1822-1826)
Francis D. (1825-1846)
Franklin J. (1829-1897) married Velora Smith (1829-1898)
Otto Marshall is listed on the 1820-1880 Wheeler Census and is buried at the Wheeler Cemetery. He
arrived in this country with his father in 1799, moved to Utica, NY in 1801, moved to Wheeler in 1810.
Francis, Otto, Dolly, Francis D., and Frederick N. are all buried at the Wheeler Cemetery.

Franklin J. Marshall (1829-1897) Franklin was born at Wheeler, parents listed previously. He married
Velora Smith (1829-1898), they had two children:
Dolly V. (1855-1905) listed on the 1860-1900 Wheeler Census.
Otto F. (1860-1948) listed on the 1860 -1900 Wheeler Census, 1910 Avoca Census, 1930 Wheeler
Census.
Franklin is listed on the 1850-1880 Wheeler Census. Franklin, Velora, Dollie, and Otto F. are buried at
the Wheeler Cemetery.

P French (?) There is not a P. French on the 1870 Wheeler Census. Most likely is the following or a
family relation:
Amasa A. French (1801-1898) Amasa was born at Westfield, NJ to John French (1778-1861) and Rebecca
Ansley (1772-1851). He married Sarah “Sally” Sears (1802-1850) and they had at least three children:

Mary Williams (1792-1880) Mary Howard Blakesley was born at Middletown, Middlesex, CT to Eber
Blakesley (1765-1848) and Sarah Ward (1771-1829). She married Orva Williams (1800-1877), they had
five children:
Eliza Ann (1825-1880) married James E. Taylor (1824-1880), lived at Wheeler and Starkey, Yates, NY.
Seabury (1826-1862) married Nancy March (1827-1877), enlisted with the 23rd NY Infantry Regiment,
was killed at Antietam.
John C. (1827-1904) moved to Michigan, married Velina (1836) then an unknown woman in 1899. In
1900 he was in the Iona, MI Asylum for the Criminal Insane, died there in 1904.
Thomas D. (1832-1861) never married, lived at Bath, NY in 1850, Wheeler in 1860, died there in 1861.
Ann (1845-?) appears on the Wheeler 1860 Census with Mary.
Mary is on the 1860 and 1870 Wheeler Census. Her husband Orva is listed on the 1830 and 1840
Wheeler Census. Mary died at her daughter Eliza’s home in Starkey, Yates, NY. Mary, Thomas D., Nancy
(Marsh) Williams are buried at Wheeler Cemetery.

Orville Raymond (1802-1882) Orville was born in New York to Joel Raymond (1774-1850) and Lydia
Hewett (1772-1854). He married Caroline Smith (1802-1885) and they had five children:
John Wesley (1835-1925) married Sarah J. Jayne (1832-1908) lived at Wheeler, NY
Nehemia Smith (1837-1898) married Amanda Lanphear (1844-?) lived at Wheeler, NY
Mary (1840-1851) died at Wheeler, NY

Amasa Church (1843-aft 1910) married Emma (1848-aft 1910) lived at Wheeler and Richland, Oswego,
NY.
Orville was raised in Pulteney, NY and is listed on the 1840-1870 Census, appears that he and Caroline
lived in Wheeler up to their deaths.

Susan Hankinson (1804-1886) Born Susan Myrtle, daughter of Philip Myrtle (1773-1850) and Margaret
Walters (1776-1860). Susan married Joseph Hankinson (1803-1848) they had six children:

Belinda F. (1834-1904) Married Jacob H. Lewis (1826-1907) lived at Wheeler, NY.
James Frederick (1836-1920) married Mary Jane Derick (1844-1894, daughter of Ephraim Derick), also
married Clara B. Miller (1868-1950) and lived at Wheeler, NY.
Eliza (1838-1860) is listed on the 1850 and 1860 Wheeler Census. Died at Wheeler, NY.

Philip Myrtle (1841-aft 1920) married Adela Blinn (1840-1916) of Howard, NY, moved to Michigan.
Aaron Roy (1845-1923) married Ruth (1845-1934) lived at Urbana and Jerusalem, Yates, NY.
Susan never remarried, is listed on the 1840-1880 Wheeler Census. Joseph, Susan and daughter Eliza
are buried at Wheeler Cemetery.

William Gardner (1834-1922) William was born at Wheeler, NY to Furman Gardner (1793-1856) and
Elizabeth Myrtle (1799-1883). He married Emma Rice (1840-1922) and they had three children:
Della E. (1867-?) married Marshall Myrtle (1866-?) moved to Cameron, TX.
Mary (1870-1926) married Frank L. Hathaway (1871-1945) lived at Wheeler, NY.
Sarah Edith (1878-1904) married Thomas Stickney (1867-1936) lived at Wheeler, NY.
William is listed on the 1850-1920 Wheeler Census. He and Emma are buried at the Wheeler Cemetery.

Jacob Hoffman (1821-?) Jacob was born in New York, parents unknown. He married Sarah (1838-?).
They are listed on the 1870 Wheeler Census. Sluman Overhiser (1847) as well as Frances and Ellen
Garrison (1848/1846) were residing with them.

Henry P. Gardner (1828-1915) Henry was born at Wheeler to Furman Gardner(1793-1856) and Elizabeth
Myrtle (1799-1883). He married Esther A. Clark (1844-1927) and they had three children:
Leroy H. (1866-1938) married Sarah J. Burd (1865-1954) lived at Wheeler, NY.
Nettie (1872-1876) buried at Wheeler Cemetery.
Frank (1873-1873) buried at Wheeler Cemetery.
Henry is listed on the 1850-1910 Wheeler Census, he is buried at Wheeler Cemetery. Furman and
Henry’s sister Polly also are buried at Wheeler Cemetery.

Ephraim Aulls (1809 – 1880) Ephraim was born in NY to Thomas Aulls (1777-1846) and Ruth Hand
(1775-1816). Ephraim married Catherine Myrtle (1810-1908) and they had 7 children:
Lydia Ann (1833-1907) Married Otis Shepard and moved to Indiana
Eliza (1835-1872) Married Julius Stickney and lived in Wheeler.
Sarah D. (1842-1930) Married David Ackerson lived in Wheeler and then in Chicago around 1910.
Francis (1844-1923) Married Myanda Wheeler lived in Wheeler, buried at Wheeler Cemetery.
Thomas H. (1848-1927) Married Mary Ellen Wheeler, lived in Wheeler and Wayne, buried at Wheeler
Cemetery. Thomas served as a Private with the Company C, 189th NY Infantry and fought at Petersburg,
Hicksford Raid, Hatcher’s Run, Five Forks, and Appomattox Court House, VA.
Mary Simons-Aulls (1852-1913) married Dennis S. Derrick lived in Wheeler/Urbana. Buried at Wheeler.
Frank M. (1856-1932) Married Elva Gay, and lived in Wheeler.

John Wesley Raymond (1835-1925) John was born at Wheeler, NY to Orville Raymond (1802-1882) and
Caroline Smith (1802-1885). He married Sarah J. Jayne (1832-1915) and they had four children:

Harriet (1861-1932) married Alex Flick (1840-1923) lived at Oneida, NY.
Silas Carter (1861-1926) married Caroline B. Kelly (1866-1925) lived at Wheeler and Bath, NY.
Daniel Alanson (1869-1939) married Ida from NJ (1875) and lived there a few years, then moved back
and married Ida M. Olmstead (1891-1983) and lived at Avoca, NY.

Asa Straight (1799-1883) Asa was born in Vermont, to Asa Straight (1768-?) and unknown mother. He
married Lydia Spalding (1796-1872). They had nine children:

Don Gibbs (1833-?) Don was born in Vermont, parents unknown. He married Harriet (1842) from New
York. They are listed on the 1870-1880 Wheeler Census, no children.

Edgar Hathaway (1841-aft 1920) Edgar was born in Yates or Steuben County to Thomas S. Hathaway
(1815-?) and Louisa (1817-?). He married Della (1848-1915) and had on child:
Frank L. (1871-1945) married Mary Gardner (1870-1926) lived at Wheeler and Rochester, NY.
After Della died, Edgar married Susan A. (1845-?). Edgar is listed on the 1850-1860 Canisteo Census,
1863 Yates Civil War Draft Registration, 1870-1920 Wheeler Census. It appears that Susan died before
1920.

Albertus Larrowe (1811-1895) Albertus was possibly born at Wheeler, NY to Albertus Larrowe (1776-
1858) and Jennette Aulls (1775-1853). He married Lucretia Coats (1819-1887) and they had five
children:
Jennette (1846-1910) listed on the 1850-1880 Wheeler Census.
Robert (1848-?) listed on the 1850 Wheeler Census.
John (1852-aft 1920) listed on the 1870-1910 Wheeler Censuses and 1920 Bath Census.
Fred B. (1854-1878) listed on the 1870 Wheeler Census.
George Ralph (1857-1932) married Kathleen Zimmer (1859-?) listed on the 1870-1880 Wheeler Census
then the 1910-1930 Wheeler Census.
Albertus is listed on the 1850, 1870 and 1880 Wheeler Census. He and Lucretia are buried at the
Wheeler Cemetery.
***All Larrowe and Larue families in the Steuben county area seem to come from Albertus Larrow
(1776-1858). Albertus and Jennette had as many as 14 children, most survived to be adults. Judge
Larrowe from Steuben County is of this family. Many are buried at the Wheeler, Mitchellsville,
Elmwood, and Urbana Cemeteries. Very hard family to figure out based on available data due to similar
names and names are often badly misspelled on the Census listings.

Daniel B. Stratton (1812 - 1875) Daniel was born in Sullivan, NY to Stephen Stratton (1786-1880) and
Betsey Benedict(1791-1827). He married Eliza Haukenberry (1819-1886) and they had eight children:

Mary Eliza (1845-1939) married Curtis Chester Coats (1839-1919) and lived in Avoca, NY

Rosabelle B. (1855-1922) married Chillian W. Potter (1852-1940) lived in Yates County and Avoca, NY.

Patrick O’Flarity (1810) Patrick was born in Ireland and married to Mary (1820). No information on
them other than the 1870 Wheeler Census. They had five children:
Eugene (1843) born in Ireland;
Elen (1853) born in NY;
Richard (1856) born in NY;
James (1859) born in NY;
Caty (1861) born in NY
**Patrick O’Flarity seems to be related to the Flaherty family from Prattsburg, Steuben, NY. Several
burials of this family at the Prattsburg Rural Cemetery, names are very similar but not conclusive.
District 2 Block 18
Robert Colgrove (1832-1911) Robert was born in New York to Benjamin Colgrove (1790-1855) and
Lucretia Carr (1800-1867). He married Mary S. Champlin (1833-1895) and then Helen F. Clark (1855-
1895). He is listed on the Wheeler census with Mary during 1860-1870 although they most likely lived
there until her death. He is listed in Prattsburg with Helen in 1900. On the 1870 Wheeler census Daniel
and Alfaretta Stratton were residing with them.
District 2 Block 18
Silas P. Wheeler (1827-1882) Silas was born in Wheeler, NY to Seth Wheeler (1796-1877) and Maria
Pawling (1799-1872). He married Mary M. (1828-1917). They had five children:
Crumbia (1861-1933) married Alida M (1862) and lived in Prattsburg. Buried at Prattsburg Rural Cem.
Teneyck P. (1864-1865) Buried at Prattsburg Rural Cemetery
Silas L. (1866-aft 1920) married Emma Taylor (1867) and lived in Prattsburg, NY.

Maggie (1870-1913) married W. Leroy Early (1867)
Myra F. (1873-aft 1930) married Amos D. Gillette (1874) lived in Wheeler, NY
Mary Ella (1875-1875) buried at Prattsburg Rural Cemetery.
Silas and Mary M. are on the 1850 Prattsburg Census, 1860-1880 Wheeler Census and are buried at the
Prattsburg Rural Cemetery. On the 1870 Wheeler Census Silas’s parents Seth Wheeler and Mariah
Pawling were living with them.

Wakefield Jones (1820-1881) Wakefield Jones was born at Starkey, Yates, NY to Benjamin Jones (1787)
and Mary (1794). He married Mariah Miller (1837-1906) and they had eight children:

Lewis Lockwood (1839-?) Lewis was born in Putnam, NY to John P. Lockwood (1791-1857) and Martha
Travis (1795-1845). He married Emma Cook (1842-?) and they had four children:
Ida (1862-?) married Thomas Garrison (1846) and lived in Hammondsport, NY
Eva (1867-?)
Nettie (1869-?) married William J. Gear (1868)

Lewis and Emma are found on 1860 Urbana Census, in Wheeler from 1863 to 1920, then in
Hammondsport during 1930.

Joseph L. Briggs (1833-1919) Joseph was born in NY to Stephen A. Briggs (1796-?) and Maria (1802-?).
He married Maria J. Boyd (1833-1909) who was also born in NY. They had two children:

B. Vrooman Lewis (1830-?) Vrooman was born in New York to John Lewis (1792-1876) and Clarissa
Vrooman (1798-1888). He married Esther (1831-?) and they had four children:

William H. Trenchard (1819-1899) William was born in Albany, NY to John Trenchard (1792-1867) and
Margaret Arnold (1797-1899). His father John fought in the War of 1812. His Grandfather John fought
in the Revolutionary War. William married to Mary Ann Peck (1824-1862) in 1846, then to Mary Ann’s
cousin Mary (1824) in 1863. William and Mary Ann had four children:
Frank (1843) married Jane (1842) then Annie (1853) and lived in Wheeler, then Ontario, NY
Grattan Delos (1848-1924) married Mary Early (1851-1916) lived in Wheeler, Prattsburg, then Yates, NY
William (1850) married Alta Taylor (1853-?) and lived in Prattsburg, NY.
Ida (1855) married unknown Haupt and likely lived in Michigan.
William H. Trenchard was a very successful farmer, lumberman and bred Durham cattle and Merino
sheep. He was prominent in the Bath fair and Prattsburg fair winning many awards for his stock at both.
In 1863 he sold his farm to his son William and moved to Michigan with his 2nd Wife and daughter Ida.
He moved back to Wheeler by 1880 and died in Hornell, NY.
District 2 Block 20
Julius Tyler Stickney (1829 – 1906) Julius was born in Vermont to Tyler Stickney (1799-1880) and Lora
Tredway (1806-1880). He married Eliza M. Aulls and they had 6 sons and 5 daughters. He is listed on the
1850 Addison, VT Census, and the 1860-1900 Wheeler Census. Children include:
Ephraim Tyler (1858-1929) married Eleanor J Coats (1852-1918) and lived in Prattsburg, NY
Timothy (1859-1936) married Anna Foster (1865-1916) and lived in Urbana, NY
Cora (1860-1942) married William C. Lewis (1858-1934) lived in Prattsburg, NY

Adelbert W. (1862-1936) married Mary E. Reamer (1860-1923) lived in Hammondsport and Wheeler, NY
Frank D. (1865-1940) married Minnie M. Read (1870-1934) lived in Wheeler and Urbana, NY.
Orianna (1871-1936) married Fred T. Silliman (1862-1954) lived in Urbana, NY.
Elmer H. (1871-?) probably died before adulthood.
George Andrew (1873-1950) married Melissa Havens (1878-1934) lived in Thurston, Campbell, and
Corning, NY.
Hattie G. (1874-?) probably died before adulthood.
Willard (1876-1947) married Daisy M. Mann (1883-1957) lived in Wheeler, Urbana, and Bath, NY.

and Fidelia Frisbie (1820-1883). He married Mary Jane Rose (1848-1912) and they had one known child:
Frank Rose Wheeer (1878-1934) married Blanche Harper (1881-?) lived in Washington state, San
Francisco, CA, Chicago, Il, and Pittsburg, PA. His occupation was an Engineer.
Donald Duane and Mary Jane left Wheeler between 1870 and 1880 and lived in Tacoma, Washington.

Orlando Dewitt Wheeler (1853-1935) Orlando was born at Wheeler, NY to Silas W. Wheeler (1811-
1855) and Fidelia Frisbie (1820-1883). He married Mary Esther Lewis (1852-1926). They had one
daughter:
Delia S. (1872-1957) lived mostly in Prattsburg, NY, died in Los Angeles, CA.
Orlando is listed on the 1880 Trego, KS Census with his parents, 1900 Wheeler Census, and the 1910-
1930 Prattsburg Census.

G.H. Wheeler Jr. (1813-1901) This Wheeler estate most likely was owned by Grattan H. Wheeler Jr. He
was born at Wheeler, Steuben, NY to Grattan Henry Wheeler Sr. (1783-1852) and Fanny Baker (1786-
1813). He married Nancy Denton Sayre (1819-1889) and they had ten children:
Fanny A. (1838-1921) married Hubert D. Rose (1835-1894) lived at Hammondsport, Rochester, and Bath
Sarah M. (1840-1909) married Lt Layton (?-1863) and lived in Hammondsport, NY

Census. They did not actually live in Wheeler at the time of the map, but since he was in the line of the
main heir of the family estate, it most likely was in his name.

David H. Ackerson (1838-1898) David was born at Steuben, NY to Henry Ackerson (1821-1895) and
Lydia Updegrove (1796-1852). He married Sarah D. Aulls (1842-1931) and they had two children:
John Herbert (1864-?) married Margaret M. (1864-?) lived in NY City.

census of that area.
Charles M. Coates served with Co G, 107th NY Infantry Regiment from 1862 to 1865, which fought at
Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Atlanta Campaign and the Carolina Campaign.

Eva (1862); and Georgia (1869). He was a black man and served in Co D, 43rd Regiment of the Colored
Volunteers during the Civil War. He is buried at Prattsburg Rural Cemetery.

Mahlon Goth (1867-1950) He married Ida Grace Cook(1872-1900) and they had two children: Clarence J.
Thompson (1892-1977) and Menzo Henry Thompson (1895-1968). He then married Mattie Clark (1882-
?) and they had Laura M. b 1902, Jennie b 1907, and Edward Hubert Thompson (1918-1971).
John W. is listed on the 1850-1900 Wheeler Census, 1910 Bath Census and died in Niagara Falls at his
son’s home. On the 1870 Census, Hubert Stryker (1848) and Daniel Benedict (1849) were living at this
residence as well.

Jacob H. Lewis (1826 – 1907) Jacob was born in Brunswick, Rensselaer, NY to Herman Lewis (1787-
1873) and Margaret Thompson (daughter of Daniel Thompson and Catherine Derrick). He married
Belinda Hankinson (1834-1904) and they had had one child:
Fred Frances (1855-1951) He married Catherine R. Cook (1861-1930) and lived in Wheeler, NY.
Jacob was a carpenter early on, then bought a 112 acre sheep farm on Wheeler Hill, and later was a
partner with E. K. Derrick on the Wheeler General Merchandise store. The store was later turned over
to Fred Frances. There is a Bio written on him in the 1891 “Landmarks of Steuben County.” He is listed
on the 1850-1880 Wheeler Census and is buried at the Wheeler Cemetery.

Erastus Rose (1810 – 1872) Erastus was born in New York to Nathan Rose (1775-1831) and Lydia
Shattuck (1770-1842). He first married Mary Ann Smith (1823-1858) and then married Nancy (1819-?).
Erastus and Mary Ann are both buried in the Wheeler Cemetery. They had the four children:
Helen M. (1843- 1922) married Richard M. Thompson (son of Daniel Derrick Thompson and Mercy Jane
Derrick. They lived in Bath, NY.

James R. Cornue (1843-?) was born to Anthony Cornue (1795-1871) and Margaret (1800-?). He had
served in the Civil War with Co. H, NY 141st Infantry Regiment. Not much information found on him, he
was in the VA center in Bath in 1904, he may have been wounded/disabled in the war. His father
Anthony was from Canajoharie, Montgomery, NY and moved to Wheeler at least by 1840. On the 1870
Census Anthony, Margaret, James R., Jane Cornue (1834), Margaret Paine, (1848), and Frank Smith
(1861) were living at this residence
District 4 Block 85
Ezra Beals (1805-1880) was born in NY and married Catherine Hesse (1817-1880). They had the
following children:
Sylvester (1832-1910) married Sophia (1834-?) and lived in Avoca.
Catherine Ann (1837-1935) married James Sturdevant and lived in Avoca
Harlan (1838-?) married Eudora and lived in Fulton, Oswego, NY.
Ezra lived in Chenango NY in 1820, Cattaraugus NY in 1830 and was listed in Wheeler from 1840-1880.

Peter I. Fox (1808-1895) Peter I. Fox was born in Minden, Montgomery, NY to Joseph Henry Fox (1772-
1825 and Maria Hoke (1775-1825). He married Magdalena Laney Shaut (1809-1893) in 1829. Peter and
Magdelena had the following six children:

Oliver R. (1835-1916) married Eliza Graves, lived in Wheeler. Was town justice from 1871-1891.

In 1834, Peter moved to Wheeler, purchased a 90 acre tract, and was a carpenter. In 1856 he sold the
90 acre farm and purchased a 150 acre tract shown on the map closer to Avoca. He shows up on the
1870 and 1880 Census in Wheeler, NY. He is buried at Avoca Highland Cemetery.

Chester Adgate Overhiser (1821- 1906) Chester was born in Wheeler to John Casper Overhiser (1782-
1871) and Ruth French (1796-1855). Chester married Mary Storms (1824-1892). They had three
children:
Henry S. (1845-1936) married Charlotte Stanton and lived in Wheeler/Avoca.
Ruth E. (1850-1904) married William Williamson and lived in Wheeler/Avoca.
Ida M. (1861-1943) don’t think she ever married, lived in Avoca.
Chester and family are listed on the Wheeler Census from 1850-1880, then in Avoca in 1900.

John Ephraim Borden (1828-aft 1907) was born in Pulteney, NY to Horace Borden and Minerva Chafee.
He married Lavinia (1834-?) and they had the following children:

John and family were listed on the 1860-1880 Wheeler Census. In 1907 he was in listed in Long Beach
California according to passport records. On the 1870 Wheeler Census Charles Francis (1854) was living

George Edward (1840-1879) married Adrith Storms, lived in Wheeler, buried at Bull Hill.
Charles A. (1844-1923) married Margaret Derrick, daughter of David G. and Jane Manning. They lived in
Wheeler/Avoca and are buried at Avoca Highland.

Almera (1818-?). He was listed on the Wheeler 1850 Census with Betsy and children: Frances, Martin,
Mary J., and Esther S. On the 1870 and 1880 Census he is shown married to Almera with a daughter
Emily.

Roswell Welch (1832-1900) Was born in Vermont to Daniel Welch (1798-1867)and Jerusha Olcott
(1802-?) Roswell is listed on the 1850 Wheeler Census, 1860 Pavillon, Genesee Census, then is back in
Wheeler on the 1870 and 1880 Wheeler Census. He married Mary (1834-?) before 1860, they did not
have any children. He is listed as a farmer on the 1880 census.

1896) and Sarah Eells (1820-1888). DeWitt first married Julia Eckler (1852-1871) on 10 Jun 1868. After
Julia died DeWitt married Manetta Hamblin (1854-1934). DeWitt and Manetta had two children:
Guy H. (1883-1943) married Wilhelmina “Minnie” Sherer (1884-1956) lived at Wheeler, Bath and Avoca,
NY.
Myrtle Belle (1890-1968) married Rev Fred Hawley (1879-1952) lived at Corning and Binghamton, NY.
DeWitt was listed on the 1850-1890 Wheeler Census. He also has a brief biography in the 1890 book
“Landmarks of Steuben County”. He started business on his own at age 21 buying a farming tract of 100
acres. In addition to farming potatoes he prominent in the horse trade in this area. Julia Eckler, DeWitt,
and Manetta are all buried at Avoca Highland Cemetery.

Clesta (1867-1952) married Emory Head then Louis Myers lived in Wheeler/Avoca/Campbell, NY.
Roxie (1867-1926) married Jerry Elmer House and they lived in Wheeler/Avoca, NY.
Ida Jane (1878-1951) married Fred Fanklin Gesner and lived in Fremont/ Howard, NY.

Census. He married Hannah J. Andrews in 1911 after Marbra died.

Moses Mowers (1793 – 1882) Moses was born at Ulster, NY to Daniel Mowers (1754-1836) and Rachel
VanDerMark (1759-1823). He married Elizabeth DeVoe (1793-1878) and they had eight children:
Matthias (1817-1900) married Mary Coon (1823-?) lived at Bath and Bradford, NY moved to Michigan.
Phebe (1820-1883) married Lewis Crants (1817-1848) then George Miller (1807-1865) lived at Wheeler
and Bath, NY.
Cornelius F. (1826-bef 1890) married Letitia Bryant (1832-1915). Served as a Lieutenant with Co A, 23rd
NY Infantry Regiment.
Eleazer J. (1832-1864) married Jane Haven (1837-1909) served with Co G, 107th NY Infantry Regiment,
fought at Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Tennessee and died during the Atlanta Campaign.
Buried at Atlanta, GA.
Martha Jane (1835-1912) married John Simons Ferris (1832-1910) he served with Co D, 161st NY Infantry
Regiment, was wounded in Louisiana. They lived in Bath and Wheeler, NY.
Sarah (1837-1921) married George Washington Ferris (1835-1923) lived at Bath and Wheeler, NY.
George W. served with the 189th NY Infantry Regiment, took part in final battles of the war.
Mary Ann (1840-1898) married Benjamin Franklin Ferris (1834-1917) lived at Bath, briefly at Michigan,

Elizabeth M. (1864-1935) married Truman Brewer (1854-1911) then Leroy Keeler (1852-1925) lived at

George Washington Ferris is listed on the 1850 Wheeler Census; 1860 Lodi, Athens, OH Census; 1870-
1910 Wheeler Census; 1920 Bath Census. George enlisted with Co A, 189th NY Infantry Regiment on 1
Oct 1864, he fought in the Battles of Petersburg VA, Hicksford Raid, Hatcher’s Run, White Oak Ridge,
Five Forks and the final battle of Appomatox Court House. He was discharged at the end of the war as a
Full Corporal.

Alexander (1852-?) He lived in Wheeler at least until 1870.
Elias then married Sabria’s older sister Jane and they had five children:
Robert (1856-?) married Nancy Delphine and they lived in Pulteney.
Mary (1858-1945) married John McGlynn and they Avoca.
Franklin (1860-?) married Mildred, then Angette, and then Edna Simons and lived in Wheeler.
Eunice (1862-1947) married Leonard Mattice and Hornell, Prattsburg and Wayland.
Smith (1866-1958) married Clara Morgan, and then Myra Bennett Williams and lived in Prattsburg.

Sherman H. married Mahala Stryker at Wheeler in 1840, is listed on the 1850 Howard Census and 1860
Wheeler Cenus. Mahala Stryker is listed on the 1850 Howard Census, 1860 and 1870 Wheeler Census.
On the 1870 Census, Mahala Stryker Rose is the head of household, with Emily, Mary, Frank, Herman,
and Sherman living with her. Sherman and both wives named Mahala are buried at the Wheeler
Cemetery.
