Pirton Football Club Pirton were a succesful side who played in the Southern League. Pirton FC folded in 1993, and in 1995 the current club, LEA Sports PSG was formed in Luton, by Junior Schools Teachers. This club merged with Shillington and Gravenhurst and has now achieved the Football Association kitemark of 'Charter Standard Development Club Derek Cook, who played for Pirton in the late 1940's remembers that the players had to pay half a crown a week towards the coach for visiting away matches, and that the Hitchin FC were only seen as any good if they had a Pirton man in the team! He also used to play football in Pirton with the grandfather of Jack Wilshere, who plays for Arsenal. Fred “Dabber” Titmus played local football for Pirton, Hitchin and Luton before WW1. During the war he served in the Lancashire Fusiliers. In 1919 he joined Southampton Football Club, and had a sucessful professional career, playing for England several times, and also playing with Plymouth Argyll. NORTH HERTFORDSHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL Hertfordshire Football Association originated in North Hertfordshire. It was set up in 1894 by Mr. H.W. English, a master at Hitchin Grammar School and Secretary of the Association from 1894-98. A scheme to control the Association's affairs by a council was introduced. The Hertfordshire FA is still run on a developed and improved version of this initial scheme.
