If your council plans a local march or rally for religious freedom, order Knights of Columbus religious freedom signs (13”x 20”) from the Supply Department. The signs say “Respect Religious Freedom” (#10041) and “Defend the First Amendment” (#10042). Order on-line at knightsgear.com by searching for “religious freedom sign,” or send a Supply Requisition (Form #1) by mail or fax (1-800-266-6340) to the Supply Department. The cost is $10 per 100 signs, which includes shipping and handling. For prayers, a fact sheet, graphics, suggested sample activities, and other campaign resources, please visit the USCCB’s Fortnight for Freedom website: www.fortnight4freedom.org COUNCIL ELECTIONS Election of council officers is quickly approaching. Section 128 of the Laws of the Order indicates that officers are to be elected by ballot at a regular business meeting held between the first day of May, up to and including the fifteenth day of June. Section 128 also states that college councils may elect officers at a regular business meeting held between the first day of March, up to and including the first day of June. Immediately after the election of officers, the financial secretary should report the officers-elect to the Supreme Council using the Member Management Application located in Officers Online on the Knights of Columbus web site or by using the Report of Officers Chosen for the Term (#185). STATE CONVENTIONS Have the councils in your district elected their delegates to their state convention? If the council would like to submit a resolution to the state council for consideration during the convention, have they drafted the resolution, approved it by a vote of the council members and sent it to the state secretary? Have councils in your district completed and submitted the proper material to the state program director for program award consideration? Please remind councils to complete these tasks quickly as time is running out. MEMBERSHIP 365

FATHER’S DAY AFFIRMATION OF WEDDING VOWSCouncils should partner with their parishes in sponsoring a Father’s Day Affirmation of Wedding Vows during orimmediately following all Masses celebrated the weekend of Father’s Day, June 18. During these events, Knightsand their wives — along with all the married couples of the parish — will have an opportunity to affirm theircommitment to their marriage vows and bear witness to the importance of Christian marriage as the building blockfor strong families and parishes. After the event, councils should host a reception to thank each couple for their witness to marriage. Some councilsmay wish to hold a brunch or supply simple light refreshments; others may wish to supply wedding cake in honorof the ceremony. When planning the event, ask your pastor what time the Masses will be held that weekend and if he is able toprovide a brief catechesis to the parish, explaining the Catholic understanding of marriage and the strength of thesacramental bond. You should begin advertising the event by the end of May, assuring several weeks of promotion before June 18. Also, make sure there is a pulpit announcement the day of the event, inviting all married couples to participate.Resources for the event, including the Affirmation of Wedding Vows booklet (#30003), are available atkofc.org/fathersday. You might also distribute The Gift of Fatherhood (#10168), Knights of Columbus rosaries(Rose-1) or other CIS resources for families to use together. Councils can list the Father’s Day Affirmation of Wedding Vows as a Family program and Domestic Church activity ontheir Columbian Award Application (SP-7).
