Memorandum

Dear NGCA Members,

For the first time since 2000, the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) is heading to the bright lights ofLas Vegas for the 08/09 NGCA Member Convention.

Slated for December 9 - 11, 2008 at Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino located directly on the famous LasVegas Strip, this convention is a can’t miss opportunity for all women's collegiate golf coaches to break awayfrom the daily grind of coaching and join your peers for a few days of education, networking, and my guess

— just a little bit of fun!

Response has been overwhelmingly positive with the change in dates from ournormal slot in January to early December. We anticipate a record turnout and as aresult, the NGCA is planning an unforgettable Convention!

This year’s program includes distinguished presenters along with various NCAALegislative and Golf Committee Meetings. As well, the NGCA will honor formerplayers and coaches with our Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and once again, theNGCA Corporate Sponsor Expo with golf industry product and service providerswill take place on the opening evening of December 9.

For the 2nd consecutive year, the NGCA will host a 1-1/2 day USGA Rules of GolfWorkshop to take place on December 8 (full day) and December 9 (half day, morning). And, returning thisyear, the Convention will include a one day LPGA Workshop on December 9 featuring Pia Nilsson and LynnMarriott. Both of these events are held in advance of the main convention opening and require a separateregistration fee.

To follow is a convention prospectus including the Schedule of Events and Registration Form. I encourage youto complete the form and return by the registration deadline of November 21.

If you have never attended the NGCA Member Convention (or it has been a few years), the VegasConvention is without a doubt the time to come! If you are a regular, I guarantee that you will welcome a re-turn to Las Vegas!

Please feel free to contact me at NGCA Headquarters at (800) 381-0769 or [email protected] if you requirefurther information. I look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas this December.

Two Pre-Convention Workshops December 8-9, 2008

USGA RULES OF GOLF Workshop For the 2nd consecutive year, and in response to requests from numerous

coaches across the country, the NGCA will again host a USGA Intermediate Rulesof Golf Workshop at this year’s convention The workshop will be led by Brad GregoryVice Chairman of the PGA of America Rules Committee and Lorraine Thies, assistantexecutive director of the Arizona Golf Association.

In order to customize our workshop, rules regarding fourball and foursome play willnot be discussed so that time can be spent concentrating on things that are most im-portant for college coaches. The workshop will be held on Monday, December 8 at8:00 a.m. and will conclude on Tuesday, December 9 at 1:00 p.m. The cost of theworkshop is $175 (space is limited). Each attendee will receive a rules book and deci-sions book along with a sample tests on the rules.

Day 1 of the workshop will be in the classroom with Day 2 will be outdoors on thepractice facility. Following the outdoors portion, a final rules test will be given. Allcoaches who attend the workshop will receive a certificate and those who achieve aproficiency score of 85% on the test will have a letter sent to the athletic director ofthe coach acknowledging successful completion of the workshop.

The NGCA Board of Directors feels that rules awareness and proficiency should be acornerstone for all members. As a result, all NGCA members will be strongly urged tobecome rules-qualified once every four years. For NGCA members who are membersof the LPGA and/or PGA, this workshop will be submitted for educational certificationpoints.

Due to space limitations this year, we will only be able to accommodate the first 50coaches that register. Last year, the workshop sold out quickly so please register assoon as possible.

LPGA Workshop Featuring Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott, Creators of VISION54

The workshop will be a continuation of the summer workshop where coaches willlearn more about the perfect practice for their teams. Pia and Lynn will review theirviews on practice as a starting point, so all coaches will start with the basics. They willthen cover practice warm up, maintenance and preparation. The goals of the work-shop are to 1) increase coaching competence; 2) integrate the game's elements; 3)practice productively; 4) be your own best coach. Pia and Lynn will have extensivehandouts with drills, games and worksheets to assist the coaches with practice.

The cost of the workshop is $325 for LPGA Members and $375 for non-members ofthe LPGA (space is limited).

Your Future is NowPlanning for your retirement or your financial future is like playinggolf. Each time you play the course conditions are different. Youneed the right equipment and the right coach to help you realizeyour goals and dreams no matter the challenge. This presentationwill focus on the importance for coaches to develop a financial planto determine one’s income during their retirement years. We willemphasize the need to start sooner rather than later (i.e. The Ruleof 72 and 114). We will also highlight unique ways in which atten-dees can maximize their savings plans. Everyone will walk awaywith an understanding of the factors that will affect their retirementincome needs allowing them to better position their assets.
