NUCLEAR MEDICINE IN THAILANDIn 1955, Prof. Romsai Suwanik used Au198 for reduction of ascitic fluid in the patient who had carcinoma of the ovary.

In 1959, first cobalt radiotherapy system was installed in Siriraj hospital.

In 1963, there were many reports

on the use of isotopes for

diagnosis and treatment of thyroid

diseases from Thailand.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE IN THAILANDIn 1963, the office of atomic energy for peace (OAEP) had facility to produce many isotopes, such as I131 Na24 K40 Br82 P32 Au198 for nuclear medicine researches and clinical practice.

In this year, the first rectilinear scanner, 3” Picker Magna scanner was installed.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE IN THAILANDIn 1965, I131 BSP was used for hepatobiliary scan by rectilinear scanner (Picker co. and Nuclear Chicago Co.) In this year, Thailand began to have technical assistance from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

NUCLEAR MEDICINE IN THAILANDSince 1965, IAEA experts, IAEA training scholarship and technical assistance were implemented in Thailand.In 1966, the first gamma camera (Nuclear Chicago Pho/gamma I) was installed in Siriraj Hospital

In 1987, Nuclear Medicine Society of Thailand was established.
