Divisional Learning Outcomes & Program Goals
learning outcomesIt is the objective of the Division of Student Life to facilitate student learning and development in the following eight areas, identified as our Divisional Student Learning Outcomes. This is accomplished through our, services, co-curricular programming, and overall student support. As well as through intentional interaction and collaboration with members of the UT community, including faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and community representatives.

These goals are accomplished through our staff support and programs as well as through intentional interaction and collaboration with members of the UT community, including faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and community representatives. Program goals relate specifically to the operational and process side of each department’s purpose and should be aligned with the overall impact that occurs on campus and in the community as a result of the unit’s activities.

Diversity Job Fair

To increase accessibility of career development resources to students in under-represented populations.
There was a 31% increase in attendance in the Diversity Job Fair from 2012-2013. 35% of respondents (n=43) indicated that they received offers to interview for internship, summer employment, part-time, or full-time positions as a result of attending the Diversity Job Fair.

Social Justice Academy
Service Delivery; Community Outreach
To describe and employ students’ personal leadership style; Identify areas of community need and means in which to serve it; Articulate a heightened sense of civility, justice and respect for those around them; Define and practice the tenets of positive social change; Identify their core values and commit to act on them; Define heightened self awareness as it relates to personal strengths, privileges, preferences and challenges.
97% of participants agree that they can identify areas of need for social justice awareness and activism; 100% of participants agree that they are able to articulate a heightened sense of civility, justice, awareness, and respect for others. Key Qualitative findings: The SJA made students more aware of issues on campus and in the community; Students feel more knowledgeable and prepared to discuss social justice topics “It improved my understanding of many of the social justice issues that are present in today’s society.” “I definitely took away useful information that I will share with the community in my residence hall.”

To increase student awareness of the varied opportunities on campus and to increase the use of the site to track their own involvement.
Over 6000 students accessed the system in the first three months.

To increase student engagement with members of their organizations and other organizations throughout the two day program.
94% of respondents had a better appreciation and respect for people who were different than themselves. 92% of participants had a better understanding of the vision and direction of MSL and how their organization fits within it. 88% of participants felt more connected to the members of their student or-ganization. 88% of participants were able to apply the knowledge received to have an impact on their organization and their life as a student. 87% of participants have a better understanding of their own personal characteristicsas a leader.

To provide timely and effective communication to parents to promote retention and persistence to graduation.
Results from the 2013 student survey show that students communicate most frequently with their parents about financial aid & scholarships, career advice, and academic advising. 85% of parents listed weekly emails as one of the top 3 services that are most important to them.

To increase the provision of note taking services and encourage the utilization of the note taking campus resource provided by ODS.
The percentage of note taking requests that were filled in 2012-2013 increased from 88% to 97%.
Office of Student Activities
Central Program Council Fall Leadership Training and Transition Retreats
Student Engagement To provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through co-curricular involvement in student activities
92% of Central Program Council student leaders can list at least three transferrable skills that they have gained from their leadership position within the CPC. The most common skills listed are communication, leadership, time management and organization.
RecSports Ignite Outdoor Leadership; Healthy Living; Student Engagement;
To offer recreational hat foster social and educational opportunities.
Surveys and learning outcomes will be completed as the ignite sessions conclude. Projected outcomes include: instilling an understanding of community and connection to the University as well as Rec Sports Outdoor Program; exposing the outdoor program to students that may not already be aware of it and exposing students to leadership opportunities at the University; increasing participation by a wider breadth of students in outdoor program trips and programs.

S.E.E. Center Sexual Assault Response Team (S.A.R.T.)

To develop Sexual Assault Response Team (S.A.R.T.) education tool kit for S.A.R.T.; information to be relayed efficiently and consistently across the campus community via residence hall staff who will utilize the toolkit no less than once a year.
In a survey of participants who received the S.A.R.T. toolkit training: 93% felt prepared to respond to dis-tressed students; 91% agreed that the information provided by the S.E.E. Center was use-ful to their area of work; 91% agreed that they felt comfortable recognizing the signs of a distressed student; 88% agreed that they have a general understanding of the S.E.E. Center mission; 88% of participants agreed that they understood what constitutes a sexual assault.
Sorority & Fraternity Life
Officer Training Boot Camp (OTBC)
Service Delivery; Staff Engagement
To promote student leadership development by offering opportunities for Sorority & Fraternity members to develop & enhance leadership skills.
33 officers agree or strongly agree that they learned new information at these sessions of OTBC that will make them a better chapter officer. 35 officers agree or strongly agree that as a result of OTBC, they feel more confident in their leadership position within their chapter.
Student Counseling Center
Crisis Invervention, Walk-in and Counseling Services
Service Delivery To provide direct psychological and educational services to students in a timely, effective and professional manner.
Service delivery by walk-ins was up 3%. All students requesting such services were accommodat-ed in FY13. Service delivery remained constant at 9500 clinical contacts.
Student Health Services
Physical Therapy and Pharmacy Services
Revenue Generation; Service Delivery
To develop alternative sources of funding to reduce the amount of future health fee increases.
Healthy living options increased with the addition of full-time physical therapy services and the opening of the full-time pharmacy located in Student Health during FY 12 and FY 13. Students have access to improved healthcare service with additional physical therapy hours for rehabilitation. Pharmacy services offered on-site improves the timeliness which students will obtain and begin taking their prescribed treatment regimes.

Student Employment Program

To encourage the utilization of the Student Employee Program to increase retention and persistence to graduation.
In the first semester tracking retention, 91% of enrolled student employees passed all of their courses. Overall, all 35 student employees completed an average of 14.03 credit hours, and had an average GPA of 3.12.
University Housing
Added intercultural perspective, diversity topics and principles of civility to Resident Assistant course.
Social Responsibility & Service; Intercultural Competence
To support and foster an environment that encourages respect and appreciation for diversity and different perspectives.
In a survey of participants in the Resident Assistant Class Student Evaluation: 65.09% - “Diversity paper accurately portrayed my skills”; 95.1% - “Diversity activities in class helpful or very helpful to my development”; 71.57% - “RA class challenged me to grow as an individual.”
