Aisha Caan Aisha Caan was born in 1959, Bombay and subsequently moved to the UK. Aisha studied at the London College of Fashion (1977-1980) and in 2006-2008 gained her MA in Fine Art from Central St Martins School of Art, London. She has since exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Aisha’s work brings together the disciplines of faith and science through the form of contemporary, conceptual art. Art and science, and faith and science, have been inter-linked for centuries, yet many people feel that there is a myth about their unity. For Aisha, this unity exists, as there is an element of spirituality in each of these three disciplines, which is the essence of her work. The narrative of Aisha’s paintings unfolds in a series of layers. Before she even starts to put paint onto canvas she has already worked through preparatory layers, the most important of which is to develop the initial source of inspiration, which requires much research and contemplation. As this contemplation provides layers of discovery and understanding, so the painting itself is built up from a series of layers, with revelations expressed through the varied realisation of colours, processes and techniques in each successive layer. From the initial source of inspiration to the final layer of paint on the canvas Aisha’s work reflects her very spiritual and philosophical nature. She paints from the subconscious and there is a deep appreciation behind every process and technique, every layer upon layer that she applies and every painting she creates.

JayShree Kapoor JayShree Kapoor was born in 1965 in Kenya. Her works are a personal journey of painting in a meditative state, whereby she explores the energies of the Universe. These paintings are spontaneously composed; the process is one of surrender, capturing the intense period of time when the mind is devoid of all thoughts apart from the connection where breath is the essence of life. The paintings are made up of complex layers of colour and texture, with a cosmic energy that is intrinsic to the soul of her work.

Highly individual in style, her work is described as emotional and mysterious, and a place to explore your soul. The power that exudes from these canvases encompasses the viewer and allows them to go on a journey of their own. Following on from the series on breath as the essence of life, she now introduces work on flowers as the manifestations of thought. According to Hindu mythology flowers are the pens with which Mother Earth writes. She expresses all her ideas and desires through flowers. And walking in this unceasing trail of flowers is what connects us to the divine. They distil the essence of the soul. JayShree’s experiment with flowers is her search for the eternal spirit.

Christina Pierce Christina Pierce received a BA. Hons. degree Central School of Art, London. Her paintings hang on the walls of both County cricket and International players as well as businesses and private collectors and her shows include the Royal Academy of Art, Lords and Brit Oval. Her commissions include a portrait of ex England captain Andrew Strauss and Sachin Tendulkar. She is also the official artist for the Sri Lanka Premier League.

“For this series of paintings, I have started with small sketches, using a variety of mediums, mainly oil on paper, as this gives a great texture when using a dry brush. These I have used as reference for my large acrylic works.

My figurative paintings are usually in oil, as I find this more malleable, but these large abstracts need to be much more immediate and textured, for the effect I am trying to achieve.

These abstracts belong beyond the world of cricket, the imagery balancing on the fine line between depiction of an event and an expression of feeling, pushing the boundaries of composition, chance and colour.

My inspiration comes from the noble game, cricket, which is very much part of my life and has been a great influence on every level, the visual aspects of the game as well as the mental, trying to capture the effervescent spirit of it, with all it’s peaks and troughs.

There have been many artists who have influenced my paintings especially Gustav Klimt and Ben Nicholson, echoed in this series with the use of texture, gold and many layers of paint.”
