During the past 62 years since its founding in 1947, Dankook University has grown as one of Korea'sleading private universities under its founding motto of 'National Salvation, Independence and SelfReliance' as well as the twin guiding principles of 'Truth and Service' underlying the motto. Now ouruniversity is at an important turning point as it starts a new chapter in its history. Amid the globalchanges taking place in the 21st century, defined by the knowledge-based economy and informationsociety, the race to cultivate national talent is accelerating. With market principles being applied tocollege education, universities can no longer advance unless they secure a future-oriented growthengine.

In order to respond to these macro changes, Dankook University built its new Jukjeon Campus aswell as announced its A+ Vision 2017 project. These are two core goals that must be met for thesuccess of this master plan in which we will invest 540 billion KRW over the next ten years.

We are aiming at pursuing proactive self innovation by creating change rather than sitting back andmerely becoming followers of change. We are upscaling every element the university offers fromeducation, research, services to enhance cooperation between industry and academia in order tomeet international standards.

Beginning this year, we introduced the self certification system for majors, the first of its kind inKorea. We will also exert dedicated efforts to strengthen globalization of the university by forming aglobal network. Our vision is to have our students share knowledge with fellow youths around theworld and have our professors join hands with scholars overseas in the quest for knowledge.

We are pleased with the success of the 2009 International Summer School Program. Studentsexperienced a great sense of accomplishment with the program, many stating they were so enrichedby the cultural experience they have developed a deep fondness for Korea and desire to return.Building on this success we look forward to the continuation and expansion of this program. It is withpleasure that I extend an invitation for you to join our 2010 International Summer School Program.

We look forward to the heartfelt support for Dankook University as it takes on this new challenge toreinvent itself on top of the foundation of nationhood to become the home of young globalintelligence.
