Cell Theory state? 2.The following sequence represents which
characteristic of a living thing: fetus baby toddler child tween
3.Which protists are plant like? Which are animal like? Whats the
difference? 4. Label the following as L, living or NL, non-living:
virus, bacteria, water, hair, nails, skin, flower, sun, paper,
potato, eye, fruit 5. Take out your homework (RAFT)!!!
Slide 2
T ODAY S LEQ 3: H OW ARE PLANT AND ANIMAL CELLS SIMILAR ? H OW
ARE THEY DIFFERENT ? By the end of this lesson, you should be able
to 1. Define the word organelle 2. List the functions of all eight
organelles 3. Explain why plant cells have chloroplasts and a cell
wall.

Who has read/seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? What
was unique about the factory?
Slide 5
T HE C HOCOLATE F ACTORY E XPERIMENT Imagine that you are
responsible for building a chocolate factory. The factory must take
raw ingredients like cocoa, sugar, and milk, turn them into
chocolate, and then ship them around the world. In your notes, draw
a plan for your factory design. Things to consider How are the raw
ingredients going to get inside the factory? Who will decide how
the factory is run? Where will the raw ingredients be mixed and
packaged? How will the finished chocolate leave the factory? How
will your factory get the energy it needs? Where will your workers
mix and package the chocolate?

G ROUP D ISCUSSION S HARE O UT ! 1. What are some ways that a
cell is like a factory? 2. Why is the term organelle an appropriate
name for the structures inside a cell? 3. What are some
similarities that you noticed between plant and animal cells? 4.
What are some differences that you noticed between plant and animal
cells?
Slide 8
H APPY W EDNESDAY !!12/5/2012 1. What is the difference between
unicellular and multicellular organisms? 2. Is a protist
unicellular or multicellular? 3. Describe how a protist would move
if it has a) A flagella b) Cilia c) A pseudopod 4. Please take out
your homework (protist practice and childrens book) for collection.
T ODAY YOU WILL BE MAKING EDIBLE CELL MODELS OUT OF CANDY. I N
ORDER TO PARTICIPATE, YOU MUST HAVE H OMEWORK & DO NOW COMPLETE

V OCABULARY : ORGANELLE the structures inside cells that
perform specific jobs Means little organ in Latin
Slide 10
K EY P OINTS The two types of eukaryotic cells are PLANT and
ANIMAL Cells are made up of different parts that allow the cell to
do its job. The two types of cells are eukaryotic and prokaryotic
EU = DO have a nucleus; PRO = NO nucleus
Slide 11
W HAT ARE THE PARTS OF THE CELL ? Cell Membrane surrounds the
cell like a skin; allows certain things in and out. cell skin
Slide 12
W HAT ARE THE PARTS OF THE CELL ? Nucleus contains DNA, a
chemical that provides the information a cell needs to grow and
function. Nerdy Nucleus knows everything

T ODAY YOU WILL MAKE INCREDIBLE EDIBLE CELLS ! No whining,
groaning, moaning or complaining about your lab groups. You MUST
complete your data table before you can get your candy. Your model
must be complete and photographed (by Ms. K) before you can enjoy
it. WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!! ITS FLU SEASON! Please be responsible with
the materials do not take more than you need. Remember, I have 174
other students that need to do this.
