If you have studied climatology at this department before (in the intro courses to physical geography or intro geosciences or "alternativ ingångintro course", did you feel that there were too much repetition of old stuff?Didn't study it here before.YesNo.Some repetitions not useful, yesSome repetition occured in some of the lectures/intros but most of it was new facts.Noit was a lot of repetition and maybe not so much explanation about what's actually new and important to know/understandyes, it is good to repeat a bit but I didnt feel like I learned alot new things in this course.
If you did not study climatology at university level before, did you find that the course assumed too much of previous knowledge/training in basic climatology?Not at allYes, I think some of the times, it was expected from us to know more than the average level of preparation we had.-No opinion.
If you do not have a background in physics/mathematics, do you think the theory and computations were to hard to understand to be meaningful for you?Only partially.NoChallenging, but meaningful.Not at all. Other background, comment:The math was ok-The course was not as expected. No management or policy subjects discussed, it's missing. Good to know how it works, but the most important to know, is what we can DO, NOW... not what has been in the past. Thus, not really useful. Too bad
What was the best things in this course?:The projectsThe freedom of the final project.That focus layed on understanding, but calculations still included.The combination of theory and practice.Days off.. too bad I have to say that..That it was an interesting cours with both group assignments and lectures.to work with real data, to analyze and discuss concequenses of climate change. I liked that the course ended before easter and that the exam was before the project work, made it easier to have time for both.most useful: getting to know MatLab
What could be improved in this course?Lack of lectures and maybe an excursionThe materials available. (Newer Stull book edition or correlation between the problems in each edition.Is the amount of reporta necessary? It feels like I'm putting a lot of effort in getting the reports together, more than understanding the aim of the exercises. I would be nice to have more supervision of the computation exercises. Not necessarily more hours, but fewer hours each day, and more days, that is, more often. It would also be interesting to focus more on anthropogenic climate change and how it differs from previous changes in climate.Much more lectures, missing some inputs in theory. And real actions lectures regarding policy and management.The SI meetings, the mentors did not make me interested in going to the meetings, they did not seem so engaged.1. too many reports. make some of the exercises into answering questions or discussions instead, felt as if the focus went from understanding the exercise to writing and reference. 2. the Ahrens book was really bad, did not get to the point and explained key words poorly. 3. More lectures There barely enough time to properly write each exercise and I think by just reducing the number a bit and giving the students more time for each one then the quality of the reports would rise. Now we couldnt really focus on writing the report in order and structure since the result finding took most of the time.
