Document Detective: Review and sanitize documents with confidenceDocument Detective is an interactive, desktop application for reviewing and sanitizing electronic documents. It meets the intent of the Government’s “100% reliable human review” criteria for transferring electronic files across security boundaries in their native format. The process of transferring a file from higher to lower classified network or domain is typically called an Assured File Transfer (AFT). Document Detective is also effective to identify and mitigate Insider Threat signatures in electronic documents.

Using multiple tools including keyword search, object and image inspection, optical character recognition (OCR) and a proven sanitization process, Document Detective reveals sensitive information that may be missed without a deep and careful review. It also provides Flatten Document functionality to assist in the cleanup of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in order to address vulnerabilities in those file types specifically.

ManTech International Corporation provides Instructor-Led Certification Training for Document Detective. Individuals or groups charged with protecting data are strongly encouraged to attend a formal Instructor-Led Training session to

ensure that Data Transfer Agents (DTAs) are certified in the use of Document Detective. The certification provides fundamental understanding of the product capabilities, as well as how users and organizations can leverage the product to provide a record of action should the threat of a spill arise in the future.

Customer Upgrade/Migration GuidanceDocument Detective 5.0 supports Windows 10, 8.1 and 7, and systems with Office 2016, 2013, or 2010 installed. This is not a mandatory upgrade, but ManTech recommends always using the latest version of Document Detective to help minimize the possibility of a data spill.

If your organization is currently or will soon be using Office 2016, ManTech recommends you upgrade to Document Detective 5.0 now. The previous version 4.5.2 does not detect objects in Office 2016 documents, so there is a possibility of a spill if customers use the previous version in an Office 2016 environment.

If your legacy systems are still running Windows XP, Vista or Office 2007 or older, keep using Document Detective 4.5.2 until your systems are upgraded to a newer Windows Operating System and Office version.
