Citizenship Washington Focus Trip Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a 4-H leadership program for high school youth (completed grades 9-12 at time of trip). Every summer, teens from across the country gather at the National 4-H Conference Center near Washington, D.C., to learn what it means to be a strong leader in their community, country, and world. Objectives for the program are: strengthen communication, leadership, and other citizenship skills on a national level. Understanding the importance of civic and social responsibilities as they relate to the development of better citizens and leaders, exchange ideas, practice respect, and form friendships with other youth from diverse backgrounds and experience hands-on learning using the historical backdrop of our nations capital city, Washington, D.C. The dates are set for the trip: June 19-27, 2020. The livestock judging contest will be held at the Sioux Empire Expo Building with check-in from 8:45-9:45am. Contest begins at 10am and the awards will conclude in the Armory at noon. Cost is $25 per team or $7 for individual. Age divisions are 8-10 in the beginner; 11-13 in the junior and 14-18 in the senior division contestants can judge in a division above their actual age division but are not allowed to judge in divisions lower than their actual age division. Classes to be judged: 3-4 classes of cattle, 2-3 classes of swine, 2-3 classes of sheep/goats with two classes having questions. Registrations $30 teams and $10 individuals. County Show Rules If 4-H Members have an unexcused absence from half of their clubs meetings, September 1 through July 1, they will be ineligible to participate at the fair. Excused absences include but are not limited to: illness, bereavement, attendance at a 4-H related event, or other excused absences determined at the club level. Leaders will be asked to submit attendance records periodically for verification. Members who are in violation of this rule may participate in an approved event to re-establish attendance compliance. If you do not meet these standards or attend the required number of meetings, you will be ineligible to participate at the Cherokee County Fair or other out of county activities. Recordbook App RecordbookApp is available to all counties. It contains an electronic recordbook feature and club management functions for club leaders. Additional information is available on Recordbookapp.com . A broadcast email about using RecordbookApp was sent this week from the State 4-H Office. Please let Debbie Erpelding know what you think about the new app! Cherokee County Pigs are required to be Paylean free. Sioux Empire Livestock/

Livestock Judging Show

Applications for Iowa 4-H Reporters, Project Area

Awards, National 4-H Congress, National 4-H

Conference, SESS Ambassador, and State 4-H

council are now open and will close February 1st.

Interviews are scheduled for March 28th. A few

changes National 4-H Congress is open to all

9th-11th grade 4-Hers have the option to

interview face to face or via zoom video

conference; can attend as many interviews as

each youth is awarded; state project interviews

are allowed this year with 72 total interviews; no

set forms for applications, ANY documents will

work. For more information and the instructions to

start your application, please see the State

Recognition Website. Looking for volunteers to

review applications and complete interviews.

Livestock Quiz Bowl

Livestock Quiz Bowl is set for April 25th, 2020 at

Iowa State University. This event is the qualifier

for the National 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl held

during Aksarben each fall. Youth in grades 4-12

may participate questions cover beef, goats,

sheep and swine. For more information and study

materials go to the quiz bowl webpage. Contact

Amy Powell with questions.

4-H Pioneer Grant

4-H clubs can apply for “seed money” from

Pioneer in the form of grants of up to $500 to

use for community improvement projects in

their community. Applications are due to the

Extension Office by Friday January 24th

Innovators Experience (AIE).

This year AIE will focus on

issues in water quality. This is
