General Guide to Curriculum
This curriculum includes an individualized programfor Spanish speaking students, ages 14 through 17.However, the program can be adapted for speakers of otherlanguages. It includes a program for all ability levelsexcept for those classified as retarded educable.
Students are placed in groups according to achievementlevel and are not necessarily in same group for both mathand English.
For the maximum success of this program, a full-timeteacher's aide should be employed.
This curriculum is designed for 40-50 minute classeswith the following weekly schedule:

I English Guide - This course is designed to providemaximum oral practice along with reading andwriting skills.
1) Teacher should spend a few minutes a day iriinformal discussion with each group. Askquestions about things that happened over theweek-one, about family, about what they want todo after school, etc.
2) Scope magazine very useful-since it was developedfor low ability and unmotivated students.Plays - each student and teacher (or aide) take
a part. T should ask questions as storyprogresses. .Word Power or Puzzles-.
3) If students coo not have individual copies ofEnglish: Your New-Lanquage,'paper should-be keptin order in a notebook or folder.
4) Even though it is not mentioned in all lessons,the audiotech is used for vocabulary fromReader's Digesv:Readiw:Ts. From these readings,tear answers from the back of all but one ofeach volume. Small notebooks can be usedfor these answers and graded by teacher.
5) Word games or puzzles can be used when you havean extra 5 -10 minutes.
II Mathematics Guide - This is a general outline of unitsto be covered in lessons over the 36 weeks. Studentswill have to be placed' in groups according to theirability level and progress at their own rate. Itshould be taught in both English and Spanish.
III History Guide - In-order to achieve maximum benefit fromthis subject and since this is a bilingual class,this subject should be"taught mostly in Spanish.
IV Science Guide - This course design is explained in thescience unit.
