NZMA prepares students for certificate and diploma level qualifications accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). These qualifications are highly respected and sought after by employers and the community.

Since 1985 NZMA has earned a reputation for delivering high quality specialised career training. We provide vocational programmes which ensure that our students graduate with real skills to succeed in today’s competitive workplace. Our academies provide state-of-the-art bar and front-of-house training areas. We also have student-run cafes and industry sponsored business and operational contact centre suites.

A warm, welcoming environment

There are four NZMA academies, in central, south and west Auckland, as well as in Hamilton, servicing the Waikato region. Each has a unique atmosphere. Each academy has a dedicated team of Student Advisors to help students, so you will receive plenty of support throughout your studies with us. You will meet your Student Advisor team during your first week at NZMA – they are there to support you while you study. This support incorporates everything from building your confidence and finalising loans and allowances, to helping with your personal issues.

Student Advisors are more than happy to assist with any StudyLink issues. They deal with WINZ (Work & Income New Zealand) on a daily basis and also assist students to find suitable childcare. Our Student Advisors do their utmost to provide all the support you need to enable you to attend your course – and, ultimately to achieve your goals!

NZMA upskilled me in every area, from customer service to bar work, to kitchen work. If I hadn’t studied at NZMA, I don’t think I would have my great job. We offer small class sizes in a friendly, supportive environment. All our tutors have extensive industry experience and can help you through the process of learning new skills.We’ll do everything we can to help you to achieve your study and career goals. You’ll be given lots of practical hands-on experience and because your progress is continually assessed while you learn there are no major exams at the end of your course.

Programmes of Study

HOSPITALITY

NZMA Certificate in Hospitality and Employment Skills Level 3The hospitality industry is as diverse as it is dynamic. It promises careers which can take you not just around New Zealand but all over the globe. Whether it’s a job on a cruise liner, in a cocktail bar or a hotel that you’re after, NZMA has the ideal qualification to get you started. Our practical Level 3 Certificate in Hospitality and Employment Skills will give you an excellent introduction to all aspects of the industry. You’ll come away with relevant, specialised knowledge of hospitality skills and beverage operations.

National Certificate in Hospitality Level 4If you have your sights set on a supervisory position within the hospitality industry, NZMA’s Level 4 certificate has the right ingredients to take you there. This innovative, exciting programme will equip you with advanced knowledge and relevant skills in food and beverage service, as well as preparing you for sought-after supervisory roles. If getting ahead in your hospitality career is one of your top priorities, then this qualification will be invaluable.

National Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5If you are passionate about pursuing a dynamic career in hospitality management, then you’ll need superior qualifications to help you get ahead and achieve your goals. NZMA’s National Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5 will give you a leading edge. Highly relevant and well respected by hospitality employers, the programme will thoroughly prepare you for the realities and demands of hospitality operations and business management. It allows you to explore the many disciplines associated with the hospitality industry and, like all NZMA’s programmes, provides you with a nationally recognised, NZQA-accredited qualification.

BUSINESS

NZMA Certificate in Business Administration and Employment Skills Level 3If office work and customer service roles appeal to you, this qualification is the perfect start to landing your dream job. During the course you will develop general administration skills while also covering vital areas like text processing, database, spreadsheets, transaction processing and reception services.

NZMA Certificate in Business and Employment Skills Level 4If you’ve set your sights on a career in business administration, then this qualification could be just the ticket. This is an advanced level programme which allows you to develop your general administration skills as well as focusing on areas such as communication skills, document integration, specialist text processing and payroll functions.

National Diploma in Business Level 5Do you want to start your own business? Or are you eager to work towards a managerial role? NZMA’s one-year business diploma will give you a leading edge when it comes to forging a successful business career. Our innovative, intensive course will prepare you to manage a small to medium-sized business. It will also equip you with all the skills required for an exciting future in business management. Our industry-respected, NZQA-accredited qualification will ensure you get ahead in the business sector.

MANAGEMENT

NZMA Certificate in Supervision Level 5Do you want to gain the practical skills needed to be a great leader and team player in today’s business environment? NZMA’s Certificate in Supervision will give you the necessary supervisory skills you need to succeed within a range of business roles including supervisory positions, human resource administration and general administrative roles. This NZQA-accredited certificate is offered within both the National Diploma of Hospitality Management Level 5 and the National Diploma of Business Level 5, or can be studied as a stand-alone programme.

CONTACT CENTRE

NZMA Certificate in Contact Centre and Employment Skills Level 3Contact Centre is a dynamic, booming industry and qualified staff are in hot demand. Most of our graduates initially move into CSR (Customer Service Representative) roles and from there they can progress into team leader and supervisory positions. If you like talking on the phone and are good with people, this industry-respected qualification is the perfect stepping stone to a bright new future.

NZMA also offers MSD Employment Related Training and Youth Training Places.
