DIRECTOR ’S NOTES

Welcome to Dominican! We’re glad you’re with us for our exciting production of HAIRSPRAY! We are proud to be one of the first high schools to present this amazing musical, and have waited and worked very hard to bring you a fun evening of theatre.

Hairspray is so great on so many different levels. The music is fantastic. The dancing is exhilarating. The lyrics and scenes are perfect. The history and time period is fascinating. But the best part --- is that the girl that gets picked on, made fun of, ridiculed, and looked down upon --- she’s the winner! In every high school (or any school, or anywhere in life for that matter) there’s always that someone that isn’t pretty enough or slim enough, or cool enough, and in Hairspray…. she gets to win. I just love that about this story.

We have assembled an incredible crew of people that have helped us put this together and my thanks are many. Bryn – thanks for all of this. Mike – thanks for helping us sound like this. Michael E – you are a wonder and push our kids so very far. Enjoy what you see. My mom, Barb, and Terry – thank you so very much for all of the work and extra work and more extra work. We don’t do this without you. To my Staff and Administration at Dominican – thanks for the support and patience.

To my Fine Arts Booster Club – thank you for all of the time and support in every way you give it. To Julie Landes – thanks for staying on top of things and keeping me on track. To Karen Poellmann – who has done everything in every aspect of this show you are about to see – thank you so very much for your communication, support, encouragement, and manpower. Wow. To all families and parents who have helped us – you made our kids shine.

To all of our students – look what you’ve done. Well done and thanks. I hope you’ve en-joyed the ‘work’ and can now enjoy the ‘play.’ You’ve earned an audience and applause and please know that we’re very proud of you. To my wonderful seniors – look what you’ve done. You have enjoyed every aspect of our theatre department, from summer camp to plays to one-acts, musicals, plays in water, plays with mystery and drama, shows with dance, modern dance, hip-hop, ballet, and each one of you has left your mark. Thank you and please always know you can come back here to see what you’ve left us with. It’s so much better than when you arrived, and you have left us in a better place. You have always sought better for the entire production – on stage and off, and have in turn, made stars of yourself. We have enjoyed every second of every day of every re-hearsal of every play. We will miss you dearly. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Enjoy your evening here at Dominican!
