Public Discourse Statements: Domino Theory There’s a war I’d like to tell you about, and it isn’t about the bombing of Afghanistan or Iraq The year was 1865, the country was Paraguay Argentina, Brazil and several banks from England led the attack 250,000 survivors from a population of a million and half - five out of six Paraguayans died Survivors sent to work in the mines - being dead the only way to hide In 1865 Paraguay was the only nation in South America not under the thumb of the West Succeeding without foreign investment or the ‘blessings’ of free trade Begging, stealing, hunger unknown, kids could all read and write - setting a bad example for all the rest Latin America’s most progressive country had telegraphs, railroads, factories, canals, schools, 98% of land was owned by the public, there was no oligarchy, and they didn’t owe one penny overseas They made their own ink & paper, linens & textiles, cannons & ammunition & had a strong stable currency No wonder the Bank of England, The Baring Brothers Bank, and the Rothschild Bank financed a war to take them out at the knees Reviewing foreign interventions in Latin America it’s no surprise to find business interests behind each one Impose taxes on U.S. companies, threaten private property, nationalize natural resources - you’re done No matter if you’re elected democratically, if the people themselves vote for socialism, if your values and world views differ from those nations who establish rules of the game If you threaten U.S. business interests you will be seeing U.S.-sponsored soldiers if they let you get away with it - what’s to stop other nations from doing the same This is called the Domino Theory ruthless dictators put in power and funded by the U.S. to keep markets open and resources flowing at the lowest price A long history of workers and natives cut down by machine guns and Death Squads whenever they unionize or go on strike Americans taught to fear communism, the Red Menace threatens freedom and democracy when really it’s just people choosing socialism in trying to feed their kids and build a better life Perpetual World War in defense of Multinational Corporations and stock prices keeping wages low and profits high taking precedence over human rights One rotten apple can spoil the barrel, this is the domino theory Refuse to play by the rules it’s a smack in the head - for threatening access to cheap land, fruit and fuel It’s the same logic used by the Mafia, and by the bully threatening kids at school
