The Chapel ChoirIn 2017 we aim to raise the profile of the Choir further by
touring Canada and the USA; we feel that this will provide
us with the opportunity to promote both the Chapel Choir
and Hatfield College on an international level.
Between 24th March and 4th April 2017, the Choir will
travel to Canada and the USA. They will perform in some of
the best venues that these cities have to offer. Their current
engagements are:
• Concert on 25th April at St John’s, Lunenburg, NS
• Eucharist on 26th March and a concert at All Saints
Cathedral, Halifax, NS
• Concert on 28th March at the Cathedral of All Saints,
Albany, NY
• Two services on Sunday 2nd April at St James
Cathedral, Toronto, ON – including a joint evensong
with the Cathedral Choir
There will also be opportunities to explore some of the
greatest sights in these cities, including:
• Niagara Falls
• CN Tower
• Air Canada Centre
• Alexander Keith’s Brewery
• USS Slater
This is a tour that will enable members of the Chapel Choir
to showcase some of the musical highlights of the College
whilst exploring some of Canada and USA’s own cultural
highlights.
Canada and the USAAs a Choir we have made a commitment to raising funds to
enable the Choir to travel on such an ambitious tour. This will
primarily be done through a series of events throughout the
coming year. These include:
• New English Hymnal Hymnathon (18th/19th November)
Sponsor your favourite hymn for £10, or come and sing with us for £5!
• Christmas Concert (4th December, 8pm)
Tickets (£15/£10) will be available from www.musicdurham.org.
The Hatfield Trust has long supported the Chapel Choir and this
tour is no exception. As a Choir we are very grateful for the
Trust’s continued help and support.
Funding the Tour
Help from Hatfield AlumniIn order for the tour to go ahead we are in need of support
from College alumni and past Choir members. The tour is
predicted to cost in the region of £25,000, and we hope to raise
a substantial amount of this to help subsidise the cost to Choir
members.
If you are in need of a choir for an event or would like to make
a donation, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.
Any support that can be provided will greatly help to enable
the Choir to tour Canada and USA. Please get in contact with
either our Director of Music or Tour Manager for more
information.
As one of Durham’s oldest and finest Chapel Choirs we have
perfomed in some of Europe’s most beautiful venues, including:
• Durham Cathedral
• York Minster
• Hereford Cathedral
• Strasbourg
• Johanneskirche, Düsseldorf
The Choir performs challenging repertoire to the highest level
and continues to seek new and exciting challenges. Featuring 24
talented singers, the Choir currently meets for weekly
evensong services and regularly performs at College events.
The Choir continues to contribute not only to the College
community but to the wider Durham music scene.
