fortythreedublineight EXTENSION TO HOUSE 7 Donore Road, D8 Area: 104m2 Stage: Completed Jan 2008 The building is located on a quiet residential street off the South Circular Road in Dublin 8 - all with small front and back garden spaces. The design brief was to completely refurbish the existing house and construct a partial single storey, partial two storey extension to the rear. The owners wished to keep the ground floor as open as possible and showcase the kitchen units and cabinetry supplied and fitted by the owner’s business. The architect's intention was to design the extension in a contemporary idiom which did not attempt to replicate the nature of the existing house. The cladding of the extension is based on a modular proportional system which required a material that could articulate and express the nature of this design feature. 'Pelicolor' (a compressed fibre cement cladding sheet) was chosen to emphasise this and help give the building a clear distinction between the other properties. Given the configuration of the site, the extension to the rear extends the full width on ground floor and accommodates a new kitchen/dining area. On first floor the extension extends over half of the width to the rear and accommodates the new bathroom. The attic is accessed via a hardwood timber stairs to a open plan office/bedroom which can be segregated off by a sliding timber screen for privacy. fortythreed Ground Floor Plan First Floor Plan

The building is located on a quiet residential street off the South Circular Road in Dublin 8 - all with small front and back garden spaces.
