Doris Mae Davis, 81, diedApril 25, 2003 at her home inBonners Ferry, Idaho after anextended illness. FuneralServices will be held onFriday, May 2,2003 at 1 p.m. atthe Trinity Lutheran Church inBonners Ferry, Idaho withinternment in the GrandviewCemetery.
Doris was born on May 3,1921 in Red Wing, Minn, toJohn and Edith Welvang. Shegraduated from Red WingCentral High School in 1939.After graduation she worked inthe office of the Red WingShoe Factory.
Later she and a friend Helenmoved to San Francisco whereshe worked as a secretary.Being a great dancer and lov-ing to dance, she was at a USOdance when she met WaylandH. Davis. He was in the U.S.Army waiting to be shippedout to Central Europe.
On March 27, 1943 theyw e r e m a r r i e d i n S a nFrancisco, Calif. After the war,they returned to Minnesota. In1948 they moved to BonnersFerry, Idaho to help operatethe Deep Creek Restaurant,Bar and Motel owned by Way'smother and stepfather.
Way and Doris later pur-chased Deep Creek in 1960and operated it until 1973; theyalso owned the Valley Motel,Deep Creek R.V. Park, andCanyon Inn which they operat-ed for several years.
Even though Doris workedlong hours each day shealways had time to be a roommother, Cub Scout Leader,h e l p wi th 4 - H , J o b e sDaughters and all the activitiesher two children participatedin. Doris and Way workedvery hard at giving peopleinvolved in their lives the very
best of everything they couldprovide.
They had a great love ofpeople and showed it in every-thing they did. Even with workand Doris's health problemsthey took time to play. Theysnowmobiled in the winter,camped at Smokey Acers inthe summer, traveled all overtrap shooting, and made visitsto grandchildren.
She attended her highschool reunions in Red Wingand in recent years returnedeach year on the first Saturdayof October at noon at the St.James Hotel accompanied byher daughter Sandi. While inRed Wing, they stayed withniece Audrey and husbandCharles making their visitsextra special.
Doris and Way had beenmarried for 55 years at thetime of his death on April 8,1998. Doris was a member ofSt. Mary's Episcopal Church,St. Mary's Guild and theEagles Aux.
Doris is survived by daugh-ter Sandra Chubb and hus-band Jim, brother MearlWelvang and wife Mildred, sis-ter-in-law Jean Grunerud,daughter-in-law Cheryl Brockand husband Travis; grandchil-dren: Carisa Nail; James W.Chubb; Melissa Riesen andhusband Ken; Cara Applingand husband Ryan; JasonDavis and wife Danielle;Joshua Davis and wife Neely;Jacob Davis; great-grandchil-dren: Kyle Nail; Kevin Riesenand Klarity Riesen; nieceAudrey Carlson and husbandCharles, Harley Ruesink;cousin John Olson and wifeJune and son David; stepb r o t h e r - i n - l a w S idneyWelvang, Aunt Margaret Piriusand son Fred.
She was preceded in deathby her parents John and EdithWelvang, husband WaylandDavis, son Michael Davis, sis-ter Bernice Johnson and nieceMarilyn Ruesink.
