Doris Mae Davis, 81 Doris Mae Davis, 81, died April 25, 2003 at her home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 2,2003 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho with internment in the Grandview Cemetery. Doris was born on May 3, 1921 in Red Wing, Minn, to John and Edith Welvang. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1939. After graduation she worked in the office of the Red Wing Shoe Factory. Later she and a friend Helen moved to San Francisco where she worked as a secretary. Being a great dancer and lov- ing to dance, she was at a USO dance when she met Wayland H. Davis. He was in the U.S. Army waiting to be shipped out to Central Europe. On March 27, 1943 they were married in San Francisco, Calif. After the war, they returned to Minnesota. In 1948 they moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho to help operate the Deep Creek Restaurant, Bar and Motel owned by Way's mother and stepfather. Way and Doris later pur- chased Deep Creek in 1960 and operated it until 1973; they also owned the Valley Motel, Deep Creek R.V. Park, and Canyon Inn which they operat- ed for several years. Even though Doris worked long hours each day she always had time to be a room mother, Cub Scout Leader, help with 4-H, Jobes Daughters and all the activities her two children participated in. Doris and Way worked very hard at giving people involved in their lives the very best of everything they could provide. They had a great love of people and showed it in every- thing they did. Even with work and Doris's health problems they took time to play. They snowmobiled in the winter, camped at Smokey Acers in the summer, traveled all over trap shooting, and made visits to grandchildren. She attended her high school reunions in Red Wing and in recent years returned each year on the first Saturday of October at noon at the St. James Hotel accompanied by her daughter Sandi. While in Red Wing, they stayed with niece Audrey and husband Charles making their visits extra special. Doris and Way had been married for 55 years at the time of his death on April 8, 1998. Doris was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, St. Mary's Guild and the Eagles Aux. Doris is survived by daugh- ter Sandra Chubb and hus- band Jim, brother Mearl Welvang and wife Mildred, sis- ter-in-law Jean Grunerud, daughter-in-law Cheryl Brock and husband Travis; grandchil- dren: Carisa Nail; James W. Chubb; Melissa Riesen and husband Ken; Cara Appling and husband Ryan; Jason Davis and wife Danielle; Joshua Davis and wife Neely; Jacob Davis; great-grandchil- dren: Kyle Nail; Kevin Riesen and Klarity Riesen; niece Audrey Carlson and husband Charles, Harley Ruesink; cousin John Olson and wife June and son David; step brother-in-law Sidney Welvang, Aunt Margaret Pirius and son Fred. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Edith Welvang, husband Wayland Davis, son Michael Davis, sis- ter Bernice Johnson and niece Marilyn Ruesink.
