Double Disc™ PumpsThe Ultimate in Positive DisplacementPumps for the Municipal, Industrial,Chemical and Food Processing Industries

T he Double Disc™ pumpcombines the performancefeatures of a positive

displacement pump and the principleof "Induced Flow" to provide superiorversatility in fluids handling. Based ona "Free Diaphragm™" technology, the pump utilizes a unique principle ofoperation where the discs perform theduties of both diaphragm and valve, providing a double acting, nonclogging, pumping action.

Through an arrangement ofconnecting rods and a camshaft, areciprocating action of the discs iscreated, forming a large cavitybetween the discs. This cavity is filledand exhausted in a continuous flow.

The large valve like discs mean thatsolids and rags can be handledwithout loss of pumping action. Thevalve like discs have large seatingareas that provide for low internalvelocities, extending the pump wearlife on abrasive sludges and slurries.

The fluid chamber is sealed withflexible trunnions which eliminatespackings, mechanical seals, andrequires no flushing water or otherforms of lubrication. The largediameter discs are proven to handlelarge solids, rags, plastics, etc., thatwould cause other pumps to fail.

The OperatingPrinciple Behind theDouble Disc™ Pump

Figure 1. The suction disc (left) is lifted from it'sseat creating a vacuum. The cavity between thediscs is filled during the reciprocating motion ofthe suction disc. The discharge disc is sealed.

Figure 2. The reciprocating action thencauses the suction disc (left) to seat andcreate a seal in the flow path and adownward motion of the discharge disc(left) forces the discharge.

Maintenance &Operating Costs

The Double Disc pump does notrely on close tolerances withinthe pumping chamber to

generate flow. This design advantageeliminates the wear and highmaintenance costs associated withother positive displacement pumpdesigns. With no mechanical seals orpacking glands and sealed for lifebearings the pump requires noroutine maintenance.

When parts replacement is required, our patented Maintain-in-Placehou s i ng d e s i gn a l l ow s t h einexpensive wetted parts to bereplaced without dismantling thepiping. The integral hinged housingdesign provides easy access forhousing removal leading todecreased labor costs andminimal downtime.

Complexity adds costs! In fact, you may not be repairing yourpumps in house but sending

them out for repair given the complexityand labor hours required. The DoubleDisc pump, with the patentedMaintain-in-Place hinged housingdesign, reduces the complexity andallows the pump to be rebuilt in-situwithout disturbing the piping. Withonly 5 wetted components and agasket set, the pump can quickly beplaced back into service.

About Penn ValleyPump Company, Inc.

Penn Valley Pump Company,Inc. has been developing, manufacturing and marketing

the Double Disc pump for themunicipal, industrial and chemicalindustries since 1980. Throughcontinuous research anddevelopment we have created arange of positive displacement solidshandling pumps that provideunmatched durability, reliability andperformance compared with otherpositive displacement pump styles.

With thousands of units installed andoperating in the Unites States alone, the Double Disc pump is consideredby many to be the premier productfor feeding and transferring tough tohandle sludges and slurries. We haveachieved this level of acceptability byutilizing our extensive experience inthe hydraulic and mechanical aspectsof pumping installations to properlyapply our equipment where it isbest suited.

When you purchase a Double Discpump you buy our long termcommitment. We size a unitspecifically for your application, selected by engineers with over 45years combined experience indesigning, engineering, manufacturing and applying thisexciting technology.

Contact us today and let Penn Valleyshow you how the Double Discrange of pumps can meet yourpumping needs.

Let Us Pump Your Sludge. Then You Be the Judge.

Put our pump to the test. There’sno cost to you. Take the PVPChallenge and prove it to yourself.

We are so confident in ourpumps’ ability to reduce youroverall maintenance and laborcosts that we will let you takeone for a test drive... for FREE.You provide theapplication andwe’ll providethe unit. It'sthat simple!
