    Sam khan

    Dear class fellows and friends

Welcome to the February 2013 issue of the class digital magazine! It is nice to be connected with each other and to share our thoughts acrossthe digital world.

We humans are born with clean hearts and uncluttered minds. Our souls arepure, unpolluted and raw, with very few basic needs and demands. With thepassage of time we acquire different skills to cope with our environment and

ourselves. As we grow up we develop increasing awareness of ourselves andthe things around us. It is an interesting phenomenon well studied by

    sociologists, scientists and psychiatrists.

As children, we learn thousands of new things; our brains are keen to absorb

information. Our parents, teachers, mentors and friends demonstrate to ushow to eat, behave, read and write. But this type of invaluable mentoring is

not readily available to everyone especially in poor countries where childrengrow up without any particular guidance from the parents or teachers.

Their unique environment, experiences and exposure become their surrogate

    coaches.

In any case, due to influences from our surroundings and particular cultureswe eventually learn to discern different things from one another. It is then that we start labeling things. Probably the first label in a babyslife is good or bad, and then starts a long, unending journey of choices,

    likes, dislikes, approvals and disapprovals!

We then start putting tags on human beings and place them on different

shelves according to our own classification ofwhat is good, bad, noble,

mean, great, wise, stupid and the list goes on.

Prejudice and bias are acquired qualities developed due to the subliminal

lessons from our environment and cultural background. With increasing age, these preferences become deeply imprinted in our minds and become a part

of our belief system. They becomethe normfor us.And we dont stophere

After making judgments about others we also start expectingthem to

behave in a certain manner that suits our particular system of belief. For example, these days, in urbanized society, a nice son or daughter

should fit into a certain mould according to our specific standards. Heshould be a high achiever, someone very talented and with extremely

    pleasing manners.

A perfect wife must have those qualities that suit our set of standards. In

different social strata this standard might be totally different.People belonging to South Asia would think that a perfect wife must be

obedient, shy and submissive. She must know how to cook, cleanand wash, and take care of the children, the in laws and the house

simultaneously to the point of self-sacrifice.

Others have a different image of a perfect wife thatincludesother idealqualities besides the above list, like being highly educated, active, stylish,

presentable and working full time while taking care of her husband, children

    and in laws!

And then come the successful men or women. We all have our own idea of

being successful and we unintentionally judge others according to thatrelative and subjective standard which for us becomes, the gold standard. The same goes with a perfect husband, a perfect friend, a perfectteacher and so on.

The pattern repeats itself in the various relationships we build with others

and our roles in society. We start having very high and sometimesunrealisticexpectations from people who come into our lives.

Such prejudiced and hypercritical attitude, according to me, is one of the

reasons for the moral decay in a society and mutual interactions. It causes alot of hurt and pain to the people who are expected to conform to a certain

standard and who do not fit into the fixed parameters of conventionalthinking.

I am not sure if you all will agree with how I think but I would definitely wishthat you give a thought to what I have expressed here and check yourself if

you too have high expectations from anyone in your life or you judge otherssomewhat harshly according to strict standards that suit your ownupbringing? It is unrealistic to expect people to be always in designer clothes.

Girls growing up deserve more freedom in how they look and how

they feel about how they look. Emily proctor

WE THE GRADUATES OF DMC 1985 STAND UNITED AGAINST INUSTICE DONE TO ANYONE

    By amjad ali dow 1985

    From: M.amjad Ali

    Dear friends,

This sorrow and grief is unbelievable. Some Shai Hazara families who's loved ones have been

injured and of the lost came for the protest. This grief seems like it is never ending. I believe

this time words and tears will not be enough. This time, the people of Pakistan have to rise

above religious sectarian and ethnic boundaries and establish them self as a reason of humanity

first. Justice and peace, safety of life, freedom of religion is not a privilege. These are basic

human rights and must be granted to each and every one. The country has to move forward as

a force. These people have set an example that must be followed. Our love and respect to

those who died and those who are left to mourn the dead, and still have the courage to defy

the extremes of nature and the worst of human nature to ask for something as simple as the

right to live. Besides our Sunni brothers, Hindus and others have started to join the protest.

Everyone has one thing to say to the people, justice for these innocent families.

Shaykah Abudal-Azeez Ibn Baaz said there is no doubt that it is obligatory on the Muslims to

unify their ranks and to unite their word on the truth and to cooperate in goodness and piety

against the enemies of Islam-As Allah SWT says; And hold fast together to the rope of Allah

and do not become divided (Soorah Aal-Imraan 3:102). And likewise Allah has warned the

Muslims against splitting up as occurs and is the most perfect saying; and do not be like those

who differed and split up after the clear evidence came to them (Soorah Aal-Imraan 3:105)

And help you one another in righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and

    transgression (Sooratul-MaaIdah 5:2)

My mother! when I learn'd that thou wast dead,Say, wast thou conscious of the tears I shed?

Hover'd thy spirit o'er thy sorrowing son,Wretch even then, life's journey just begun?

    Perhaps thou gav'st me, though unseen, a kiss;

Perhaps a tear, if souls can weep in bliss--Ah that maternal smile! it answers--Yes.I heard the bell toll'd on thy burial day,

I saw the hearse that bore thee slow away,And, turning from my nurs'ry window, drew

A long, long sigh, and wept a last adieu! But was it such?--It was.--Where thou art goneAdieus and farewells are a sound unknown.May I but meet thee on that peaceful shore,

The parting sound shall pass my lips no more!Thy maidens griev'd themselves at my concern,

    Oft gave me promise of a quick return.What ardently I wish'd, I long believ'd,

And, disappointed still, was still deceiv'd;By disappointment every day beguil'd,Dupe of to-morrow even from a child.

    Thus many a sad to-morrow came and went,Till, all my stock of infant sorrow spent,I learn'd at last submission to my lot;

But, though I less deplor'd thee, ne'er forgot.
