1 PIONEER GUN CLUB – NOVEMBER 2018 Down Range The Newsletter of the Pioneer Gun Club Kansas City / Bates City, MO November 2018 Volume 21, Issue 11 Hope everyone had a good Halloween this year. I know the thought of cold weather around the corner sends chills down the spine of even the strongest when the thought of the inability to shoot outside comforta- bly approaches. No fear though, as Brickyard will soon be bathed and cleaned for your enjoyment. We're still trying to get a few guys together for a weekday cleaning, so please bear with us if you show up to shoot and find a crew in there giving it a shake down. I've also put the hammer down on replacing the furnace out there so the next Eboard meeting will hopefully bring a solution. We've repaired the furnace in there several times... we've stood hand in hand around it begging for 1 more year and it keeps giving up. We should have placed it on range 1 last year and given you guys a big green light to go at it. Please know it's on the agenda. Also, note that whatever furnace we place out there, that it's going to be cold. With our system we're pulling in fresh air from the great outdoors and if it's cold outside it'll be cold inside. We could recycle and filter that inside air out there and have a very comfortable place to shoot. That is one of the reasons we installed the new filtration system that we did, it gives us a great start to do so. What we really need is a heating and cooling expert who belongs to the club to figure it out, price it out and an install it. To have it done commercially is astronomical and it's just to the pay grade that doing it ourselves, would probably result in a few do overs. If it was my personal range I'd do it my- self and I could just tell my family that it's supposed to be like that until I figured it out but, well you know...there is a lot of you guys!! Recycling that air is definitely a down the roadproject but it's doable on paper and several other indoor rang- es run similar systems. Range 6 (the falling plate range) is going to be closed while the new baffling system is installed. I'm not sure how long it'll take those guys either so hang in there and they'll be done before ya know it. Also, we had a food hot box make it's way home with a club member and need that back. One of our club members catered Ron's NRA Action Pistol event a week or so ago and he left it outside of his storage cabinet to cool down. While it was out a member inquired about it and was told somebody had probably brought it down to give away. Well guess what.... it wasn't! If you're in possession of the hot box please give me a call so we can return that. It's a $400 unit. Sight in days.... Our numbers were down this year and there has been debate on rather it was due to our date changes or the fact that everything seems to just be down this year. Ed is planning on hanging out down there again this weekend in case anyone shows up assuming we held it on our normal schedule. Any way it goes, that is going above and beyond for our club. Our sight in days is the epitome of an outreach program and it wouldn't be possible without all of our volunteers. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped this year. Volunteers, Division Directors, the Casual Shooter.... it takes a lot to run this club. I was on the board for 5 years and had no idea just how much work everyone did on their own behind the scene to keep our club run- ning. If youre available and able to do so, come out and get involved. We're always looking for help or some- one to pass a torch to. If you can't do that, a simple thank you goes a long way to these guys and gals. I can't tell them enough!! Until then Pioneer, I'll see ya on the range! Ty

I know the thought of cold weather around the corner sends chills down the spine of even the strongest when the thought of the inability to shoot outside comforta-bly approaches. No fear though, as Brickyard will soon be bathed and cleaned for your enjoyment. PIONEER GUN CLUB – NOVEMBER 2018

We're back in full force for the 2018-19 season. Come join us this Friday. Sight-in is at 5p and the safety briefing/match starts at 6p. The Perfect Score Challenge is once again available for the season in both pistol and rifle. Since no one claimed either last season, both have been increased to $25.00 for this season. Here's the latest from the Facebook post about the Halloween match this past Friday.

There were lots of characters out Friday night for the Halloween season opener of .22 games. Some were even in costume. Thanks for a good start to the season and to all who helped. Also, a very belated thanks for a great summer sea-son too. Who was tops in rifle? Surprise...Ken K. with 494.25. Hot on his heels & just 2 points back was Garrin M. with 492.25 followed by Brian M. with 491.31. Cheers to them!! Over on the pistol podium there was some drama. Tim O. proved taking the summer off didn't matter with a 1st place, mulligan-free score of 493.22. Ken K. came in with a close second place finish of 491.20. He'll be wearing the gloves ready to battle it out at the next match. Who was in 3rd place? It was the calm, cool and collected George M. with a 483.10. Pat yourselves on the back gents! Join us again this Friday for another exciting evening of 'As The Target Stand Turns' at The Brickyard. The theme will be Qualification with the bullseye targets.

There is no fee for first timers, $10 for returning shooters. The rules, courses of fire and equipment are on the NRA link below. PPC Shooters Thanks to all the shooters who turned out this summer at range 7. Our numbers were up and I think everyone had a good time. We are thinking about some changes for 2019 including an optic classification on unsanc-tioned matches for the 1500. Any changes will be announced after the NRA meets next year on PPC matches and rules. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to email me or see me at a match.

Action Pistol Wednesday shooting schedule for November and December, 2018: November Wednesday practice sessions – Brickyard, 5 p.m. – Nov. 7 and 21. December Wednesday practice sessions – Brickyard, 5 p.m. – Dec 5 and 19. We shoot a modified Action Pistol course – no movers and no 50-yard line. These practice sessions are lots of fun and open to everyone. They are a great informal way to find out about Action Pistol. New shooters are always welcome.

The November monthly match is scheduled for Sunday, November 4 – 8 a.m. at McBride – assuming we have shootable weather. If this match cannot be held due to weather, we will move to Brickyard on the THIRD SATURDAY, November 17. All the rest of the winter monthly matches will be held on the third Saturday of the month at Brickyard, starting with De-cember 15. We would like to thank all those who helped with the Show-Me Cup Regional Match on Oct 13-14. We cannot run these events without all the great volunteers.

Please be aware of ALL range rules….. There seems to be some confusion on what is allowed at our Brickyard location and on our ranges containing steel targets (ranges 8 & 6). Outside of 22 rifles or pellet guns, these ranges are pistol only ranges with a power factor of 450ftlbs or less. Carbines of ANY caliber are not allowed on these ranges. If you are not 100% certain what is allowed on any of our ranges please reach out to a board member or refer to our By-Laws. Our By-Laws are available on our website and may be downloaded anytime with a simple click. Please know that ignorance is not an excuse!
