Trends in Emerging Therapeutic Company Deal-Making and R&D ProductivityThe ability to access capital and form strategic alliances is vital for small therapeutic-focused companies to succeed in translating novel drug candidates into approved medical products for patients. BIO's David Thomas will be presenting trends seen in deal-making and R&D over the last decade. The state of venture funding, public investment (IPOs and follow-ons), licensing, and M&A will include a cross-sectional analysis by major disease areas. An investigation into R&D productivity will cover the largest study ever on clinical trial success rates. The analysis, conducted in collaboration with Biomedtracker, will cover ~10,000 clinical program transitions from 2006-2015. Individual therapeutic areas will be examined, as well as answers to long held questions: Do selection biomarkers yield higher success? Are rare disease programs experiencing higher success rates? Are biologics R&D programs more successful than small molecule programs?
