    ESSENTIAL (Must Have) Knowledge and Experience: A basic understanding of the role of the library service

    Experience of working in a busy environment Demonstrable knowledge of good customer service skills covering all members of the community

    Abilities & Aptitudes: Ability to enthuse people about books, reading and libraries using communications skills

    tailored to the audience – including children and people who face barriers due to age,disability, language or social exclusion.

    Ability to use communication and negotiation skills to resolve complaints. Ability to use verbal and written communication skills to assess the customer’s needs and

    convey information in a manner appropriate to the recipient A flexible approach to solving problems under pressure Literacy and numeracy to GCSE A-C/GCE O level standard OR ability to demonstrate accurate clerical

    and cash handling skills Ability to file and retrieve information stored alphabetically, numerically and alphanumerically. Ability to perform routine admin tasks using basic computer skills where appropriate Ability to organise and prioritise work, and to adhere to deadlines and targets Ability to work unsupervised as and when required Ability and willingness to work cooperatively as a member of a team with colleagues, partners and

    volunteers. Proven IT skills to use spreadsheets, documents, email and the internet. Ability to learn new IT

    systems with training, such as the library management system. Able to demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of equalties and diversity issues.

    DESIRABLE (Should Have) Knowledge and Experience:

    Experience of working with the public

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS The post holder will be required to work regular evenings and weekends, and occasional public holidays

    to meet the needs of the service as required The post holder will be expected to work in a variety of localities and in different libraries as the service

    requires, and must be willing to travel to any location in the city as required, within the provisions of theBristol Contract

    The post holder must be prepared to undertake training The post is subject to enhanced police clearance Flexitime policy does not apply to this post
