Downloading and installing ‘R’ Step 1: Go to: http://probability.ca/cran/ This is the U of T download site. You should see:
Choose your operating system

You will now see:
You will then see:
Choose “Base”
Choose: “R-2.8.1…..” This is the latest version of ‘R’

Install as you would any new download…
Click “Next”

‘R’ is now installed on your system. But we are not yet done… Now we will pre-download a couple of functions that we will need during the workshop. Normally, when you are connected to an internet connection you would do this work ‘on the fly’ – but we will not have an internet connection in the workshop so we will do a little work now. During the workshop I will show you how we normally would accomplish this task.

Downloading packages: Step 1: Create a folder in which you will download some extra R ‘packages’ (functions) I am creating mine as: C:\Documents and Settings\J. Charles Victor\My Documents\RCAT\INTRO_TO_R\ForBiomed\ExtraFunctions It does not matter where you create this folder, just remember where this is located for the workshop.
Step 2: Navigate back to: http://probability.ca/cran/ and click on your operating system…
Choose “contrib”

Click “2.8”
You will then see: You will then see a list of zip files. Scroll down until you see the “car__1.2-11.zip” link (NOTE: Although in alphabetical order, the list is in real alphanumeric order. So all of the names beginning with capital letters are first, so keep scrolling until you find small c- car….:
Click “car__1.2-11.zip”

Save the “car” zip file to the folder that you created. Now scroll down to the link titled: “ gmodels__2.14.1.zip ” Save this file to the folder that you created
Click “gmodels__2.14.1.zip”

Now scroll down to the link titled: “ psych__1.0-62.zip ” Save this file to the folder that you created
OK, now we will be ready to begin!
Click “psych__1.0-62.zip”
